All this hype is making me want to bust out my MGS collection from the box in my closet (no display cabinets yet) and just admire it. Can someone make a MGS collection thread or something so I have a good excuse to take it all out and take pictures? c:

My entire Metal Gear collection was lost to an accident.

Cipher sent my collection to Hell, but I'm going even deeper -- take back everything that I've lost! "Kaz... This shit costs too much to replace."
Hopefully, one day!

Seriously? What happened? If I lost my whole collection, I'd be devastated. I'd go full on Big Boss villain. No joke. I love my MGS stuff.

sorry if it has been asked but is this an original song in the trailer? Can I find it online? Is it a remix/cover of a song exclusive for MGSV?

If it can be found online, anybody know the name?

I can't stop watching that trailer, it hits me in the feels so hard especially with that Oldfield song, after doing a bit of research on that supposedly he wrote it for one of his ancestors who was in some kind of WWI Regiment. He talks about those of us who are the children of soldiers, that we can still feel the echoes of war...and war has a particularly somber resonance with us.

In relation to everything that Big Boss has gone through and will go through, I think even more than Here's To You and Sins of The Father, this is probably Kojima's most poignant song choice. It speaks to those of us who are broken or have known broken people...or have been broken and tried to get better but the ghosts of our past cling to your psyche, you can still feel, see, hear, and maybe even smell all those old moments...good and bad, they haunt you and cut into your heart like broken glass. You feel like you could go nuclear, and you feel unhinged and wild in your darkest moments.

Big Boss has a way to fall, his darkest moments coming that's for sure and I can't wait to see how far he goes.

Allow me to give a bit of backstory as to why I love that song choice so much, on a personal level.

That Oldfield song means a lot to me, just about every single member of my family on both sides have gone to war since before World War I, in fact my great great great Grandfather rode with Teddy Roosevelt and the Rough Riders during the Spanish American war(on my dad's side, he was an Italian immigrant and lived to be a hundred or so).

I'm the only one who hasn't, but like Oldfield it's like I can feel the echoes of war.

The horrors some of the things my uncles and Grandfathers faced, and my Father losing friends who were in the Army/Marine/Navy Seals while he was in the Navy in the later half of the Vietnam War and and his stories about the cold war build up and military procedure is some frightening stuff.

He actually was the Fire Chief on the USS Midway(During the latter half of the Nam era), a horrible fire broke out and he had to strap on his gear and go fight it, he managed to pull a few people out and saved their lives but he almost didn't make it. His gear was beginning to melt into itself, it almost got to his skin. The fumes were so bad he almost suffocated while his face mask nearly burned into his skull, and the rigging into his chest and stomach but luckily they got it off but it was almost too late.

My grandfather was on Iwo and was a Marine, I never got to meet him but my mother said he had pretty bad PTSD and some of the stuff he did tell her was just gruesome. My other Grandfather, on my Dad's side was actually in Europe though he didn't say if he was in the D-Day invasion or not, he did see a lot of fucked up shit including some camps supposedly. He told me never go to war, to fight to stay as far away from it as possible.

I personally really don't like the fulton recovery, it's too silly. I feel that early on the prototype was to call the chopper to bring soldiers to it that you would save, but that this was changed to the fulton recovery instead to do more stuff. I think it's a shortcut to actually finding a way to make something more immerse work, which ultimately weakens the concept by making it fairly impossible to be integrated seamlessly in the storyline itself, making a clear separation between both when MGS really doesn't need more clear distinction between story and gameplay but find a way to bring both closer.

Except you will probably be able to just load up a jeep, plop a helicopter LZ point down, and load up the dudes. Fulton Recovery is just another way of doing it.

It's fast, painless and fun. And in a game where so many are worried that things might be too serious, some silliness is more than welcome.

but more importantly it's fun. dragging soliders around it portable ops was painful and awful and I didn't like it much better in Ground Zeroes even if I could just load them up on a truck. even if its silly it still removes the tedium entirely and I think that's more important than sacrificing gameplay to be consistent with the story.

Anyway it's not really silly until they show a fulton

Yes, I agree. This is important but a lot of fans either forget or ignore it when speculating about how this will lead into the MSX games, as if Big Boss was a known, active terrorist 11 years before the Outer Heaven Uprising all the way to Zanzibar Land and never returned to Foxhound and recruited Solid Snake. You can see how a retcon like that would cause some problems in the timeline, so hopefully Kojima remembers. I think he remembers because he's created an opening for Big Boss to have a truce with Zero, by having nother villain actually behind the destruction of Motherbase who wants them both dead.

But yeah Kaz may call him a monster in MG2, but they both join Foxhound and have a role in shaping Solid Snake. So they don't go separate ways at first, Miller is just excluded from Outer Heaven and then works against Big Boss in Zanzibar.

I can't wait to see how Kojima portrays SS's character growth, and I hope it "gels well" with his characters' growth by the time were playing him in MGS.

I wish I could find a decent editing program, I just synced Way To Fall to this trailer and it fits so fucking well.

I need to edit it together... maybe with some of the old footage

Put it up in the Community Thread. We won't mind!

I'm slowly building up my collection but damn some of you are crazy lol.

GameSpot impressions are up!

WOW...

Then the demo took a comedic turn. Apparently, the Fulton recovery system can be used to abduct a number of things--not just humans. Sure enough, I saw a goat, a storage container, and a military SUV hoisted into the air via balloon. Depending on the weather conditions and your surroundings, there's the chance that the recovery won't go as planned. You're given an indication of the success rate in the form of a percentage, which is typically around 80% in good weather. Interestingly, rather than call for a helicopter when you want to be evacuated to Mother Base, you can take a seat in a vehicle, or hop on top of a container, and use the Fulton system for a quick escape. However, if you try to do so in a sand storm, there's a chance that you'll be thrown off course, and likely die as a result.

Also, you can sneak out the side of your box! WHAT?!

Thanks I'm working on it now, unfortunately I wanted to replace the ending bit with the bit from the end of the GDC trailer but I can't find a download for it anywhere. :/

Oh well. :P

Download it from youtube. There are HD downloads from the site that are available. It'll be compressed, but if you're reuploading back to YT, it wont matter.

After the presenter snuck away from his box, he went around a building and spotted a nearby enemy. It was then that he demonstrated Snake's new method of wall knocking; the technique that beckons nearby guards. Rather than rapping his knuckles against a wall, Snake spins his prosthetic hand at the wrist, which emits sparks and a series of audible clicks and clacks. You no longer need a wall to knock.

From the GameSpot article.

HNNNG.

That gamespot impression is great. I really hope there's a lot of customization and interaction when roaming Mother Base. Being able to converse or interact with soldiers or patrolling goats would be phenomenal.

Dude, I learned a long time ago that no matter how hardcore a collector of Metal Gear, or any other series, you may think you are, there is always someone else out there who will make your collection look like amateur hour.

Observe.

I'm pretty sure this guy has just about every last piece of memorabilia you could hope to get on the series. This is also just once corner of the guys trophy room, the other walls are just as full.

See all these figures?

They each retail into the hundreds, and alone would cost thousands.

If you want to see more fan collections that make you want to consider becoming a professional thief, just check out this forum

Why'd he take them out of the box??? :P

Impressions sound INCREDIBLE, I'm going to die if I don't see this demo soon.

The Gamespot article seems to give a decent idea of the structure of the game. They say Ocelot gives you three days to rescue Miller in Afghanistan, and it sounds like there's an RPG-quest-like structure to the mission where you're following a trail of clues to find him. Depending on exactly how long a 24 hour cycle is in MGSV, it sounds like you'll get some time to fool around in the open world but you won't be able to put off the story indefinitely.

Crappy bing translation of Kojima's most recent tweet:

I'm 'TPP' actual presentation at E3. Is the reputation of the first day, was pretty good. Fulton collection at the liberty undercover and free Dan will introduce much of the ball. 'GZ' release after the highest wall tap demand answers are also available. In the Afghan mud walls and new specification w anywhere able to tap a lot of collapsed walls, etc.

Impressions were good and he addressed one of the more demanded features missing from GZ; knocking.

If you watch the E3 2013 trailer again, it looks like every 30 minutes of real time is 1 hour of in game time.

For all the talk of the lack of value in Ground Zeroes, TPP is shaping up to be HUGE. And they haven't even talked about MGO yet! This game is going to be crazy.

The Fulton Recovery system actually existed.

Although I think it would have been better to force the player to clear an LZ for recovering vehicles via chopper.

I wonder how long we have to wait until those guys from youtube find some crazy way a gray fox theory could work. I love their analysis good stuff.
