I remember that. I think people just saw big monsters and assumed it was going to be like Monster Hunter for some reason.

Did anyone else notice the heavier mech/Doll focus in the trailer.

Plenty of cockpit view shots as well. It really reminds me of Gundam, not just the cockpit design but also the emphasis on mech combat and having the characters communicate in them versus stuff happening outside of them.

Makes me very excited to see how much the Dolls are integrated into the story/gameplay.

It actually reminds me a lot of Xenogears (probably due to how much Xenogears was a big love-letter to Gundam and other mecha anime). There were a ton of sequences in Xenogears inside the cockpits of the Gears where you could see the environments around the mechs and all sorts of action taking place. It isn't the sort of thing you see very often, and was even mostly lacking from Xenosaga. So seeing cockpit monitors actually showing off environments and action in Xenoblade X is cool.

Do people still think this is an mmo? only people who never played xenoblade would say that.

Game looks great, looks so beautiful.

Yeah I really don't know why there's such negativity about this title. Clearly those people didn't play Xenoblade... what else were they expecting?

I love the environments and the fact you can go anywhere.

Can we all agree on calling the game XenoCross? Xenoblade Chronicles X is just... stupid.
It's definitely a stupid name. No question about that.
Still plenty of time to change it until they put it on a box art.

Oddly enough, my only quibble after watching the 40-minute Treehouse play session is I'm not entirely sold on the idea of a silent protagonist for a Takahashi game.

I loved Xenoblade. Just watched the first 6 minutes of the Tree House Video and that momment when they step out of the pod to the gameplay I just hnngn

I hope its an early 2015 release.

Graphics are downgraded my ass.

Oh my...I simply love thisd game. the Treehouse demo was the best thing about this E3 to me.

Maybe I'm weirded, or just don't get a lot of the anime / JRPG stuff shown here, but this trailer *really* disappointed me. Xenoblade was one of my favourite games of the last decade, loved it to bits, and I was honestly planning on buying a Wii U just to play the sequel.

But this trailer looked dreadful. It looks like generic anime giant robot trash and nonsensical shouting into the camera with open mouths. Xenoblade was about the vast landscapes to explore and the incredible variety and design in the areas, which the new trailer seems to completely bypass in place of MORE MECHS AND SPACESHIPS.

Hopefully the gameplay videos will comvince me otherwise, but the E3 trailer definitely left me let dow.

I'm really asking myself how large this game really is.

The hub town alone is probably as big as Bionis left leg in Xenoblade? Or am I exaggerating?

And the skybox is beautiful:

The previous trailers should have already sufficed for you. This trailer was obviously a story trailer.

Finally confirmed what I feared; It has a customisable main character. It's not that I love Shulk or anything, but I have seen very few games with customisable leads where I felt like my character mattered in a meaningful way. People won't be able to say your name, not even ambiently. The more customisable your character comes, the more generic the game's interpretation of you has to become.

Either way, the actual footage looked pretty good. The only big question I have about it is concerning the multiplayer elements we saw in the reveal trailer. I don't mind either way at this point. I just want to know what the deal is.

How can you love Xenoblad and be let down by this? this is Xenoblad sequel (spiritual or actual we'll discover), landscape IS everything even here, and the story cut scene were not so different from the Xeno ones..

Did you watch the gameplay footage? If it does not convince you that it's Xenoblade+, then I don't know what will.

The ai will benefit from the delay hopefully but aside from that this looks as stunning as the first day it was revealed!

As some peasant who has yet to play the og Xenoblade, we can expect diverse environments beyond token tundras and arid savannah's right? The geographical formations of this forest area are already incredibly imaginative!

Just watched the playthrough, my hype has never been higher. Looks like the perfect successor to Xenoblade, unsure about character designs but i'm sure they'll grow on me.

Did you somehow miss all previous and current media about the game?

That Treehouse clip was amazing, even with the sub-par players lol. Really great idea by Nintendo to do these in-depth interviews/demos.

Can't wait for this game, it's going to be truly brilliant!

If anything the graphics look better than ever, the distance pop-in was always there in the trailers too and they never showed up close on the faces.
However, that opening scene with those flying creatures going over the mountains and water looked fucking amazing and no way could have been done like that on 360/PS3. Finally a Wii U game that truly shows dat Next Gen upgrade/look (Zelda U as well).

Totally agree, it looked amazing, that shot was so damned good and then on top of all that continuing their fantastic moving grass and sky also in that shot. And the scale is insane. It was also great when they showed off the dynamic scale too when you get close to something really huge like in the demo they showed on the stream. (Zelda looked fantastic too)

I'm confused by all the hate for this game. I'm more excited for this than anything Sony or Microsoft has to show. Only game that comes close to matching my excitement for this is Trails SC.

Only part that upset me was realising that Americans pronounce it "Zeen-oh". Never when occurred to me that it wouldn't just be "Zen-oh".

I'm in the UK, and I pronounce it as zeenoblade, just like everyone else I know along with the staff at the GAME I frequent.

I don't know why anyone would pronounce it any other way

Most of the characters that I've become closest to (in a video game sense) have been characters that I've created, e.g. T.E.S. The story can still be good. Sense of adventure and scale will allow a player to craft their own story.

Maybe I'm weirded,.

Yes, you are "weirded".

For someone who claims to have liked the first game so much, your reaction doesn't seem to fit. X is essentially more of the fucking same. But it looks better and adds playable, transforming, mechs to the mix.

ya, weirded.

I reckon it's localisation time.

The guys at the Treehouse were playing a build with menus and the opening cutscene and everything. Seemed pretty close to finished minus translation, tweaks, debug and optimisation.

But yeah, deep down I knew it wasn't going to be 2014. Still, RAGE!

Still, QA for the game (especially to get up to Nintendo's standards) is going to be astronomical. It will take a looooong time.

The gameplay videos and gifs on this screen are fantastic, and exactly what I wanted to see. But I'm not following E3 religiously, I just caught the stuff that Nintendo themselves put up in their show, and that's very different to what you can see on this page of the thread, hence my disquiet. As a trailer I think it's fairly bad, and it sells the game short.

(I do agree with the point about a customisable main character though - I actually liked Xenoblades storyline and worry this would be weaker story in response).

The other thing is, I don't really like giant mechs. I think they are a bit silly, and part of the reason I loved Xenoblade was because I enjoyed where it's story went with that idea and we didn't all end up in giant mechs at the end.

Hopefully they'll focus on giant landscapes and dinosaurs more.

It doesn't sell the game short in any way.

Xenoblade has tons of giant mechs. You just couldn't hop into one and pilot it. And this is a Tetsuya Takahashi game; mechs are his bread and butter. For his fans, this is a welcome return.

I don't think they are going to change it, otherwise they'd have kept it as just X for now.

Check out the 45 minutes of gameplay from the Nintendo Treehouse yesterday - definitely shows a way lot more than the paltry trailer during Nintendo's Direct Event.

Just had a thought that because the game is using real world locations from America its doubtful we will get a British dub.

Man wotta buncha jokahs :(

I don't want to sound like an elitist, but Takahashi himself wasn't happy with Xenoblade's story since he though it was too shounen (typical action anime for boys), and vowed to make something much more grand next.

And just asking, what don't you like about mechs? Takahashi (and usually most anime) interweaves them pretty well into the story, and in this game it seems to be the distinguishing gameplay element.

You simply were not able to do that in Xenoblade. If you want open landscapes like in Xenoblade, then mechs are going to do a major service for you in terms of exploration. I love how they're not used as a gimmick for gameplay like in Xenogears.
