Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 8: Put mii in, coach

Wow, that's lame. So much for Fierce Deity Link or a Great Fox bombing run.

Be curious to know what other people think of this.

I agree with you. It's a not a big deal to me, but I would have at least liked to see Link get a better, more Zelda series relevant final smash.

Actually the perfect DLC is DLC of characters that were actually fan requested so they will actually get money out of it.
The characters most people care about are already in the game -- Mario, Pikachu, and so on. I don't see why the general public would be more inclined to buy someone like Ridley over any other potential DLC character. And even then, Ridley seems to be a stage hazard/boss, and a lot of other "popular" characters are Assist Trophies. There obviously won't be playable character overlap there -- that's really imprudent and not like Sakurai.

I truly think potential cut characters (like Lucas), characters newly relevant after the deadline (Dixie Kong via Tropical Freeze, Captain Toad vis his new game), and brand new characters (like Inkling) are the most likely DLC options. I'm sure most of us here will buy DLC characters regardless of who they are.

isn't that rumor fake since sakurai clearly states at the roundtable that they had the list of the characters from the beginning?that kinda implies that there's no "argument" about keeping or not a character..the list was already established at the beginning of the development.

also..both palutena, the miis and pacman were all safe bets, unsurprisingly it's the more "strange" characters that are missing from the leak's list

Funny thing about the tournament was how bad some were with items. Like one was standing next to the bumper and they didn't even pick it up and chuck it. They were giving away kills to the point that it was rather infuriating to watch.
This right here. I was honestly shocked at how badly they were using the items. They can't even use the excuse that they didn't understand the items because many were in previous versions of smash or pretty obvious how they worked.

So much for "Pros are a terror with items on" arguement they try to push so much. There were many times they had an item in hand and never bothered throwing it at someone trying to recover.

Villager, Little Mac, and Mega Man are not something you just guess out of the blue.
Also, Miis weren't really a safe bet.

Sal's latest leak included "Mii Fighter," a name invented for Smash Bros. Coupled with Wii Fit Trainer, he obviously has information.

"Mii Fighter" is not a safe bet. And they could have had Lucas on the list in the beginning, and now they're unsure. There are characters cut because of time constraints in every Smash game. Plus there's gonna be post launch DLC, I'm sure we'll see Lucas.

Same, i read it yesterday but i'd like to re-read it.

Basically 'lucas probably cut' and 'dlc is coming.' anything else?
The wording suggests that either the remaining newcomers that were leaked earlier are either the only remaining newcomers, or that they'll all be revealed at E3.

This E3?

customizable mii characters are something that was already rumored for brawl, same for little mac...the only one that wouls sound really strange to me it's villager

Sakurai said on Twitter that his "projects for E3 are completed" and that he'll be leaving for Japan shortly. There probably won't be any more character reveals.

So you mean the guys that got eliminated round 1 sucked with items?
*gasp*

Do we know that Sakurai and the dev team are deliberately removing advanced mechanics, or are those just side-effects to the modifications they're making to the overall Smash engine? I mean, Wavedashing was basically Halo 2 superbouncing levels of infamous, but random stuff like Z-pivoting, DACUS, shieldflare grab-dash-roll-canceling, or whatever in Brawl doesn't seem like the kind of stuff that Sakurai would deliberately go out of his way to remove. I think it's more he's using the information he has at hand to remove any "exploitative" elements of gameplay he doesn't see as being meant to define the gameplay.

Besides, if Brawl can have advanced combat techniques, any fighter can.

I do not know about DLC. Stages I would be happy with. Unlike Mario Kart where it is just a mask, a fighting character would have to be unique. I doubt Nintendo would do that unless it is cut characters.

Anyways, my predictions for the remaining returning vets (assuming 45 characters):
Falco, Ganondorf, Ice Climbers, Captain Falcon, Ness, Jigglypuff, Meta Knight, Mewtwo, Game and Watch, Wario

Yep, it is just going to be vets revealed until release I bet.

The 3DS version looks good and all, but the it's the Wii U version that has me drooling. The visuals and levels are just so much better IMO. I wants it now D:.

Really really excited about this game now after E3. As much in a "this looks super fun to play" way as a "HOLY NOSTALGIA" way.

Pac-Man is capturing that 80s arcade irreverence perfectly.

Sal's latest leak included "Mii Fighter," a name invented for Smash Bros. Coupled with Wii Fit Trainer, he obviously has information.

Technically, the official name seems to be Mii Fighters, due to covering the three Mii types, something completely missed by the leak. Also, the second leak couldn't even get Greninja's name. I really think only the first leak is really reliable at this point. The later leaks haven't done anything to prove themselves, and only "safe" parts have really been confirmed without doubt. Also, the last leak talks about internal debates about whether Lucas is getting cut or not, and we're 3 months from that Japanese 3ds release. That just hurts its credibility.

Are you serious? Your post is the very definition of denial.

Which timezone does Smashboards use by default? Was that posted before or after the Digi Event? I mean if it was afterwards Sal could very well have used the proper Mii name to reflect what he knew whereas the original source could have just called them Miis.

I think I have to agree. The Gematsu leak has been pretty on point so far and the one with the best chance of happening. The Shulk denier poster is going to be funny when it turns out true.

He was saying that the part with Shulk was most likely fake, which is ridiculous to think at this point.

It was posted prior to the Digital Event.

Man I hope we get more newcomers than just Chrom, Shulk, and the Chorus Men. (I could see that last one as an unlockable)

As far as returning fighters, I think these are definitely in the game:

Wario, Meta Knight, Ganondorf, Ice Climbers, Captain Falcon, Ness, Jigglypuff, Falco, Mr. Game & Watch, R.O.B.

Squirtle, Ivysaur, Mewtwo, Lucas, Wolf, Roy, and Snake seem like the most in peril (and I threw Lucas on here due to the leak) but I could see everyone on this list being added as DLC with the exception of Snake. (3rd party rights)

I've seen people for months trying to justify how "Pokemon X/Y" counts and the leaker might not know the character names for one reason or another. And now, they turn around and spin "Mii Fighter" in a completely different direction (so, now the leaker has access to the names, but doesn't know about actual game's content). Meanwhile, these same people argue that all leaks must have the same source and validity. It just doesn't work. If anything, this just suggests that the leaks do have different sources.

Pokemon from X/Y was explained last night in the round table. That was Greninja's early development name, before Greninja had a name or even a final design. They had a slot reserved for one Pokemon from X/Y.

I disagree with the bolded mostly because due to Megas, I think Mewtwo has a better chance to come back now than he did in Brawl. However, Sakurai might just troll and bring ROB back anyway. Agree with the rest of the post though!

huge, menacing-looking space dragon and fan-favorite?
url

I think lots of people would love to play as him
I mean, Charizard isn't even a real dragon

What's wrong with rob?

What leak mentioned 4 characters being cut? Was it a reliable one?
I don't think there's any reason to believe if, but if Lucas is cut it might end up being true anyway.

It's of my opinion that Squirtle, Ivysaur, Snake and Lucas will be cut. Somewhere I heard 4 would be cut, and those 4 make the most sense, especially now that we are pretty sure Lucas is out.

The thing with Mewtwo is that early into the reveal period for X and Y, we were all so sure that he would be coming back due to a large focus on him... and then in that latest Smash Direct we see that Greninja, Mega Lucario, and Mega Charizard X are already representing X and Y in a way.

Your right that if Mewtwo comes back, this would be a perfect chance. I guess he could be an unlockable character too. I just think it is odd that Sakurai hasn't capitalized on him yet.

How is bringing back ROB trolling?
I thought ROB was not a popular character? I figure that would be a troll move to put a quirky character over a high demand character like Mewtwo. However, I mean troll in a charming way. The pseudo-Pulatena was hilarious.
