Kojima wasn't shitting us when he said there might be too much content.

Game sounds completely overwhelming from a gameplay pov and the amount of different locations and plot points seen in the trailers make it look absolutely huge in every way.

Gafbros, I once again edited all the footage of MGSV together into one half-hour video in what I believe is the cronological order of scenes. This time around I also fixed the audio, put all the out-of-context voice clips where they're supposed to be, removed all Ground Zeroes footage and moved all the speculation to the annotations.

MGSV MEGATRAILER [E3 2014 Edition] All trailers edited together in story order.

If you don't understand how everything in the recent trailers fits together or if you just want your metal gear fix in longform, please enjoy.

Haven't watched any MGSV footage in forever.....is.......is that Big Shell?!

Sounds overwhelming indeed.

I just have one request : PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE fix the hold ups!

EDIT :
Haven't watched any MGSV footage in forever.....is.......is that Big Shell?!

nope, diamond dogs offshore base!

Have they said anything about the release window at E3? Are we still expecting early 2015?

the Phantom Pain is set to be released worldwide on June 8th,
1985.

No. Militaires Sans Frontières had their own non-national off-shore base off the coast of Central America. What you see in the latest trailer is a separate non-national off-shore base somewhere within chopper distance of Afghanistan, home of the Diamond Dogs which is presumably Big Boss' second attempt at a private army.

The narrative excuse for similarities with Big Shell is that the Patriot AI was prone to reusing old concepts, and so the Big Shell (which existed exclusively to simulate an Outer Heaven style infiltration experience for Raiden) was probably based on Big Boss' off-shore bases.

Kojima makes some great games...but god damn his trailers are the WORST.
Random song he loves plus 10 minutes of meaningless clips.
And whats with the character animations? That scene with the two dudes fighting on the ship deck in the rain with everyone standing around. Those fighting animations are just plain awful.

Last years E3 Phantom Pain trailer was almost unanimously loved, and voted trailer of the show by many sites. His trailers are also major highlights of each E3 they're at and ever since MGS1 have drawn in huge crowds.

Why are they awful? They look fluid enough to me

(Edit: The following answer was off-topic: I was talking about the trailers while the poster above me talked about the animations. I can't delete it so whatever, I'll leave it here)

They look like Youtube AMVs with pseudo-70s rock. No subtlety whatsoever, incoherent editing, clichés up the wazoo, heavy-handed music which sings something to the like of 'ashes to ashes' as Snake rubs ashes on his face (GET IT? *wink*), too much reliance on the superficial aspects of war (blood and shock scenes)... yeah, no.

I would say his trailers are my favorite :(

Um, Kojima trailers are usually the one of the biggest highlights of an e3. This one is pretty different, though. I didn't care for it, but he usually delivers. I wouldn't be so quick to lump them all in the same category.

What? The recent trailer uses a song that just came out. His other trailers have featured mostly orchestrational pieces or original songs.

I meant 70s rock as a style, not an actual era. I've replaced 'average' with 'pseudo' for more clarity. Average 70s-like rock.

I tend to agree. The first Phantom Pain trailer was good but the rest since then have done nothing for me and thats coming from a lot of nostalgia and love for the series.

This latest trailer was just...meh

Might be the first E3 that I would put a MGS as one of the least exciting looking games on the horizon. It got utterly eclipsed this year.

Ill be there day 1 regardless though.

This last trailer is WAY too long and there is no substance to it at all.
It doesn't necessarily need to be short but it does need to be powerful. Its like he has this song he LOVES and decides "OK we need to show this and this and this in the trailer....shoot...the song is still 3 minutes longer. Well, throw like 40 scenes of random, meaningless moments of the game into it and call it good"
Its just plain bad.

yeah... red band was a way better trailer than this... by far...

Well, of course. It showed plenty of new game mechanics and an evolution of the franchise, and teased the plot.

This was a bunch of random punches and kicks, no gameplay at all, and no discernible plot whatsoever. One of Kojima's worst E3 trailers to be completely honest.

"Diamond Dogs, our new home."

Diamond Dogs is the name of their force, Motherbase is their base which going on to become Outer Heaven.

Kojima gone full Hollywood ¬_¬

I was talking about the animations, and you can say whatever you want about the trailers but it's like discussing music, depends on one's taste.

Ha this seems to be so true. "Man I love this song, can we work that in somehow?"

I just can't believe if I put together a top 10 list from this E3 I don't think MGS would be on it. Crazy times.

Feels like he had to throw something together for the conference. Anything. Feels cobbled together. The real meat is the demo we don't get to see.

I dunno man, I'd wager he is freakin STOKED with it. Didn't the trailer start with: "TRAILER DIRECTED BY KOJIMA"
That dude is out of his mind.

The animations are definitely exaggerated. Seems like bad direction from the guy in charge of the mocap, to me.

dunno, both lyrics and music fit so well with the theme of the game, i wouldn't dismiss it as random.

But yeah, scenes look like they were just thrown together.

You guys critize everything, how are they exaggerated? And if it's the Mocap's director fault how are the aniamtions faulty? They should represent exactly waht the mocap actors did. And let's not forget these are bulky guys fighting with a soaked BDU.

EG impressions. Sorry if I'm LTTP.

Before Snake heads towards the enemy camp, he surveys his surroundings. It's a gorgeous scene. The Phantom Pain's stunning open world is 200 times bigger than Ground Zeroes', we're told. This is true next-gen gaming, I think. Then Snake's horse takes a dump, right in front of the camera. We see everything, from the rear, in all its 1080p60 glory.

Back at Mother Base, which you can return to at any point during a mission if you fancy a quick escape, Snake inspects his Diamond Dogs. Welcome back, Boss, they say, saluting. Then that sheep pops out.

"Baa."

I bloody well love it.

Seriously the nitpicking is starting to build up to insane levels...

First it was "how did the knife pierce the body armor" then the other thing , then this.

I mean... ok....

Diamond Dogs is the name of their force, Motherbase is their base which going on to become Outer Heaven.
You're right about the first part, but I don't think that Motherbase 2.0 is gonna become the Outer Heaven Fortress. I don't think Outer Heaven is meant to be an offshore facility again. I think that might be where Skull Face is taking Big Boss, though. I think it even showed the Outer Heaven symbol at the Zeke part. The end of Ground Zeroes mentioned the discovery of a nuclear test site in the Kalahari Desert in South Africa, so maybe that is Skull Face's headquarters where they're making "the weapon to surpass Metal Gear" and Big Boss will eventually take over this facility.

Probably my favorite quote from the EG article.

The ridiculous amid the grim - The Phantom Pain is classic Kojima. This is the developer who in one breath tells the player a story about the horrific realities of war, the next lets the player tranquilise sheep. It's a game that quotes Mark Twain and shows us what next-gen horseshit looks like. It's genius.

This game is going to great. It will be even better if they make the binocular button toggle instead of hold. A simple fix Kojima, get it done.

Its like he has this song he LOVES and decides "OK we need to show this and this and this in the trailer....shoot...the song is still 3 minutes longer. Well, throw like 40 scenes of random, meaningless moments of the game into it and call it good"

Take that line of thought all the way and you'll realize that he actually writes and designs the game itself around whatever music he's listening to at the time. Only in the last four years or so has he been able to be stupidly obvious about it to the point of using those same songs for the trailers, but he really has been doing this since the very beginning. If I took the time I'm sure I could find at least a half-dozen examples of this sort of thing in every single game in the series.

Kojima's style has always been full-on eclectic pastiche and the brilliant depth of the final product is only as deep as whatever he was riffing on. It's for this reason that I'm so happy Kojima is finally going back to literary inspiration, as that's what made MGS1 and MGS2 the most intellectually compelling games in the series.

I gotta be honest, guys, I found the ponytail physics a little cheesy. They lacked the kind of bounce and fullness that real hair treated with L'Oreal would have. Plus, I think one of the Diamond Dog Soldiers had a weirdly rendered eyebrow. It really ruined the trailer for me.

If Kojima thinks he can get away with peddling this kind of shoddy work just to get a trailer ready for E3 then he can fuck right off. I won't be putting this filthy, half-finished, bollocks of a game in my console. No, sir.

FOX engine not good enough for TressFX.
