Hmm, I mean... I don't really see this as being a Xenogears origin story. The story is already really different from how that would have went. I guess this could be a re-imagining with changes to the overall storyline. Or it could just be some cool concept he came up with like how he thought up of the world of Xenoblade initially.

In any case, I can't wait to see where this game takes us story-wise. I'm expecting lots of good twists and turns, the past of a character being shrouded in mystery until near the end when all is revealed, etc. And of course, lots of religious and philosophical references. All that good stuff.

Well, TreeHouse even said it would have parts of each game in the "franchise".
It's obviously not exactly like what they wanted to do originally, but at the same time, it's very similar and fits in with that theme a lot more than XenoBlade did.

There are some definite similarities. At least in so far as a giant ship crashing down on a planet. I want to see a Fei and Elly lookalike again! :P Maybe "Shulk" will be the new Fei/Abel.

I hope there's English voices in this one. That screeching female chicken noise in the middle of the trailer was worse on my ears than nails on chalkboard.

I don't think you have to worry. I just hope it isn't done by the usual dubbed anime cast, hopefully.

With how good W101's dub was I imagine this one will be just as good. They also only have to pay a voice actor for battle voices for the MC as well, and they can just use the Japanese ones for that.

I consider Xenogears my all-time favorite, but I was really glad not to see any of that in Xenoblade, especially after the likes of Xenosaga. I would hate to see them return to that sort of thing.

Same for this, in respect to what I would not want to see repeated.

So i just watched the 40 minute gameplay demo for the 2nd time and overall i think the game looks incredible.I've spend more than 300 hours in Xenoblade but i can easily see myself spending even more time with this.

Pros:
1)The combat system is basically a revamped version of the one from Xenoblade which i thought was really good.
2)Art style is incredible although that isn't really a surprise.
3)Story seems to have potential and i want to find out more.
4)Soundtrack is awesome.
5)Love that they kept the best elements from Xenoblade like giving you EXP for discovering new areas for example.

Cons (which i think i'll get used to them) :
1)Main character looks lifeless.
2)Movement during battle looks very stiff.

Agreed.

Also, man I can't wait to hear Hiroyuki Sawano's soundtrack for this. The scale and some of the breathtaking views just fits him totally.

Has there been any indication as to whether the lead is voiced or not?

This might be a huge issue for me if the lead is voice-less.

It sure doesn't seem like it...but nothing is confirmed. He didn't have any voiced lines at all in the Treehouse footage, though.

It doesn't seem he is fully voiced. So it's like Chrono Trigger or Golden Sun in that sense. But he has a voice during fights.
So nothing on possible online multiplayer huh? Not that I really want it in my Xenoblade, but it was an interesting proposition.
I don't think they've said one way or the other.

It's been a really long time since I played Xenogears, but isn't one of the reveals in that game that
"God" is some spaceship that brought humanity to the planet thousands of years ago?
Or I might be mixing that up with another game. Anyway, that would mesh really well with what's going on in this game.

The story seems very similar.
Though in the original religion was a factor for why things happened in the Gears universe.
While it seems war is the main thing behind Blade.

One of the thing I dislike in Xenoblade is the combat system of other un-man character. Hopefully, they will implement some sort of gambit like FF12, that would be insane.

Xenoblade had some religious/philosophical references - in particular Gnosticism and the monad.

"God" was a bioweapon on board said spaceship that took it over and caused it to crash down to the planet after a self-destruct sequence was activated to get rid of it.

Yet nothing as overt as what was in Xenogears, and definitely not as pronounced as Xenosaga's elements. I think it would be better for such things to remain scaled back, as was the case with the original Xenoblade.

Damn this makes me want to play Xenoblade Chronicles. Is it any good?

Yes, it's pretty good. Strong focus on exploration and progression, large maps, lots of time to play without being hindered by cutscenes or hallways. Side quests are a little flat. Combat is fun but a little different so make sure you know what you're getting into there (if you've seen Xenocross's combat, it's like that.) A lot of people also really like the narrative.

This is more than likely a reboot/reimagining of Xenogears and Xenosaga through Blade's design philosophy as Riki, myself and others have pointed out for a long while

and it will be amazing

Either way is fine with me personally. Xenogears has my favorite story in a game, and I also loved Xenosaga's storyline as well. Xenoblade was very entertaining, but I think I preferred the previous games for their stories overall. Xenoblade had a lot of fantastic moments, though.

Wow, after watching some of the footage I really hope this comes out sooner than later...

Hopefully 1st quarter since it was planned as a 2014 game for a long time.

Tales? Are you serious? I agree that Xeno series have mediocre character design in general, but tales design are generic as hell and they do not appeal to general western audience. And I say this as someone who play tales since the PS era.

Tales designs aren't any more generic than most RPGs.

Also both Xenogears and Xenosaga have good character designs. Xenoblade and this game (IMO) are kinda lacking. Tales still does it better.

I'm with you. I definitely prefer a protagonist that's an actual character even though I appreciate the customization features.

Same. But, it is what it is, so I have moved on. No way Takahashi lets me down.

Definitely agree. I was a little hesitant at first when I found out your character was player created (especially since White Knight Chronicles handled it rather poorly imo), but... I do trust Takahashi for a really good/entertaining story no matter what.

I guess I just have high standard... IMO most JRPGs do have very generic character designs.
I don't get your idea of X being inferior compare to the others since X use the same artist who design for Xenogears and Xenosaga EP1... Do you mean character design or character modeling/animation? They are totally different things.

I'm not overly fond of that. Especially coming from Xenoblade.

It's not a perfect example, but I think Soma Bringer is the closest of the Takahashi games to have a passive lead, and I really didn't mind it much at all. Granted, the lead there was still a character who had a name and dialogue, but he was mostly just a new recruit with very little development compared to everyone else. The story was mostly driven by the other characters and their back stories and personalities which fleshed out the setting in the game.

I'm on board with all the classic Xeno stuff but like a lot of people I'm worried about the custom/silent main character.

I really don't see why.
It will still have that deep story you want.
It will still have characters with personalities.
You'll just be playing as yourself, more or less.

Yeah, but I'm boring! I want to play as a character with personality and an interesting back story. :P

To be fair, I'm sure your character will have some sort of back story that will be revealed later. Maybe. But seriously, I do prefer "real" characters over silent protagonists. That was one of the reasons I liked Bioshock Infinite more than the original. I never connected with Jack (I know he was meant to be your avatar basically, but still).

I'm not saying it won't work, but... I'd prefer a character like Shulk or hell, even Shion (as annoying as she could be) over some player generated guy/girl who is mute.

From the trailer I don't like the character designs are much as Xenogears and Saga. Though the modeling and art style (the other two games are more colorful) might be putting down my opinion a bit.
