I don't think he cares. MS put a strong effort into winning two big regions of the world, and in doing so they made a tidy sum. Sony attempted to compete everywhere and they lost billions. Yes, I think Phil was happy. I think Phil is upset now that in those regions he used to own he's now in a distant second place.

Me too. Companies NEVER, not, RARELY mention competitors explicitly like that. That was a gesture of humility by actually referring to Sony and Nintendo by name. It shows that MS understands that the competition is real and that they don't exist in a vacuum. It shows they know they need to pay attention to whats going on around them. And in a way, it kind of also shows this attitude of, "we're in this together" and that all three platform holders can truly learn from one another to make themselves better in the end.

MS overall had really good and consistent messaging this year

I can't tell if praising the competitors is shtick or not, but it was a welcome change from the "GOTCHA!" stuff of late.

I think some people realize that you can be successful while still not being #1 in NPD's. There is clearly room in the market for more than one console (thank God).

I think there is a difference between caring about "the console wars" and caring about "His job".

Yea I agree, I really liked that he talked about Sony and Nintendo with respect at the start of the conference. Phil is a really likeable imo.
