Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 8: Put mii in, coach

I understand this might be something easier felt than seen, but are there any videos out there that really show the landing lag everyone is talking about? I've seen people talk about it like it's utterly game-breaking, while others have almost brushed it off, and I'd like to see for myself.

Okay, folks. So I played the game quite a bit for the past two days, and as Parallax briefly mentioned yesterday, I was severely disappointed.

Sakurai straight up lied about saying the speed was between Melee and Brawl. The man deceived us all. The speed is nigh identical with Brawl. If you would have told me SSB4 was an upressed SSBB, I'd honestly believe it. The movements, the explosions, the stupid slow motion shit when the timer runs out, all exactly the same. So much for everyone saying we didn't need to worry cause it was being developed by the Soul Calibur/Tekken team and they'd make sure Sakurai didn't do anything stupid.

If you're a fan of SSBB, this is probably great news. If you're not however....yeah. I'm sorry to say that finding out about this pretty much ruined my entire E3.

Are you a Melee player mostly? Having played a lot of Melee/Brawl it felt sped up to me but not to the incredibly fast Melee level of speed you get when going from Brawl back to Melee. It eliminated a lot of the floating physics but maintained enough to keep some air game in. Speed wise the characters were faster in some ways, slower in others- again a mix between the two titles.

I feel like that's why Melee specific players are probably not liking it, it's a mix between the two and they aren't liking the Brawl portions of the game mechanics in the first place- so I don't see why they would like it when mixed in with Melee a bit.

Sooooo, what's the status of the newly revealed Pokemon and Assist Trophies that hadn't been seen before? These are some of the ones I've personally seen so far:

Assist Trophies:

Shadow using Chaos Control.
Tingle with his unpredictable madness.
Hammer Bro. with his mighty mallets.

Pokemon:

Fletchling using Peck.
Gardevoir using Protect.
Chespin using Seed Bomb.
Oshawott using Surf.
Abomasnow using Blizzard.

Any others to add?

I saw Giratina in a match, but couldn't tell what move it was using.

Just wondering, while Megaman's Final Smash was the moment of the show, are there any gifs/webms of Little Mac punching the Luma out during the Invitational? I just remembered that happened and I need it immortalized. :lol

Real talk after all the garbage I've been reading regarding smash 4 dead ass stopped following all top players on twitter and wont go to reddit (smash) or smash boards until the game comes out and just let the game surprise me.

But still come to gaf, I love smash Gaf (its a good lovingly mix of casual and hardcore people here)

How many of those people participate a lot in the gaming community though? Because there's a shit ton of group think that goes on in the gaming community in general.
None of the people I was thinking of participate in those sort of things very much.
Just as anecdotal is my experience that my playgroup disliked melee for similar reasons, as crazy as it may sound, we practically jumped from 64 to Brawl which made us dislike Melee even more, and those who played Melee adapted to Brawl.

None of us has noted Smash 4 as much faster than Brawl

We are a 4 players free-for.all, all items on high group we only play no items final once each pairing at the end of the session.
I've seen the opinion that someone liked Brawl because it was slower too, of course, but the preference for Melee was way more common.

Also, the Pit that was just inspecting the ship item like "what does this do?" that then got dragged up to his death was hilarious. I would love a gif of that too.

lmao what an overreaction, especially considering none of this is coming from the actual pro players

Yeah that confused me

Cool of him not to make a fuss though
this seems important
People being wary about systems being removed instead of disabled makes perfect sense considering Brawl. People not realising that it's a limited and unstable build because they're still working on it is fucking stupid.

He tosses off the pink jumpsuit and spars with Doc for a few seconds before posing with the belt on. It's quite possibly the most beautiful thing ever.

edit: whoops, double post. Sorry.

Perfect. Hope he has a chocolate bar if there are other winning animations lol.

Naw its more of a I'll worry about mechanics when the game comes out, In a sense we pretty much spend every week breaking down the game so when it does come out I'll be like meh about it.

Just got back from the best buy event. Here are my thoughts:

Mega Man: Used him in Smash Run. His abilities were pretty well-suited for the mode, in my opinion. Felt like I was playing a castlevania game. But the controls took a little getting used to, just as I expected. Also, the crowd just goes crazy everytime a mega man player gets the smash ball and pull off his final smash.

Villager: I didn't play him very well, partly because his play style is just weird and I have never played Smash Bros. without the gamecube pad before. I figured using his special moves would help out a lot, but I couldn't find the goddamned b button. Man, I felt like a total newb. He seems like a really fun, off-the-wall character though, so I look forward to play as him with the gc controller next time

Little Mac: Like with the villager, I spent my play time getting used to the controls. I had an easier time playing as him because he hits real hard. I thought I was doing pretty bad, but I somehow miraculously won the round and didn't get KO'ed even once. There were multiple instances that I thought I'd get knocked out for sure, but he just wouldn't die. Felt like a freaking hajime no ippo episode. I love his intro and victory scene

Anyway, me and my brother stood in line for four hours. I don't know if it was worth it, but I didn't leave disappointed. I also walked away with the winner's pin because I'm a winner

My brother won the other round, but the best buy dude decided to give it only to me for some reason

Nah, I'm just messing since I never see other people from Montana. ;P No love for the Treasure State... or North Dakota.
I hate you.
You gave me a mini heart attack. =(

I really hope the Smash team and Sakurai were truly listening to the feedback they were asking for at E3. If even a few of those lag and aerial issues are removed, the game will be so much better for everyone. (NOTE: I haven't played the game, so I'm only going off of what I've read)

Yeah, I'm mostly a Melee player, though I really like SSB64 as well. Given Sakurai's comments, I was expecting something like SSB64, but it wasn't anywhere near that. I spent quite a bit of time observing Mario's punches, jumps, etc. and if there was difference, I didn't see it.

Truthfully, if you can watch this and think there won't be competitive play, you're probably cray cray. Melee players may not like it, but there will be people who will want to play this in tourney's provided it isn't fundamentally broken like Brawl was (Meta-Knight). The video starts when the tourney players started 1 on 1 matches in the Treehouse.

Moves themselves are definitely Brawl-based. The character movements however I felt were faster overall, with the floating turned down to 1 from Brawl's 10. It's funny you mention 64, because it felt like almost 64 levels turned down a notch due to adding Brawl's air game instead of Melee's. I think if they turned the float to 0 and reduced some lag aspects, it'd feel more like Melee.

One move I felt was sped up was Kirby's punching move when holding down A- which you can still do. It was kind of like the start up in Brawl, but then sped up to faster than Brawl and felt more like Melee (honestly felt more powerful than Melee too). I'm thinking if I have time I'll try to play Melee and Brawl tomorrow with Kirby and see how the physics feel there in my head.

I wish I had more time to look at everything, but I'm still thinking it's Brawl's mechanics that are throwing Melee players off since the games play very differently from each other. If only we had a Brawl-only competitive player's opinion.
