Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 8: Put mii in, coach

I'm just hoping that some characters get new FSes before the game launches. Luigi's Poltergust gave me hope that the concepts for some FSes would be improved.

- Bowser (Koopaling Barrage pls)
- Toon Link (Ballad of Gales pls)
- DK and Rosalina (Increase the range pls)
- Sheik (Anything but Light Arrows pls)

Samus's up-b has a kick at the end of it, looks buffed
Someone in irl said n-air seems to hve no landing lag
Either neutral or forward air meteor smashes or spikes

Definitely noticing the long survival in the Treehouse demos now that people have mentioned it - most of the time we were lucky to get one KO in the full two minutes. Hopefully that gets a tweak.

Anyone recognize the Fire Emblem music there?

Smash hardcore fans should go and play Melee if that's what they like. They could never be satisfied anyways.

I wish people would fuck off with this shit.

Hardcore smash fans don't just want melee, we don't want the game to become some insular thing that can only be appreciated by high level players either.

We just want the game to be good, we want it to be exciting both to play and watch, competitively or casually. We want people to recognise just how fucking great this game can be and give it the more mainstream attention it deserves as a competitive game.

I've been hyped as fuck for the future of smash ever since EVO 2013, we've been getting in the spotlight again and with the amount of viewers we got, it's definitely something people want to see.
Smash 4 in my mind was going to be a massive rejuvenation of the scene, nintendo hosting an actual fucking tournament, inviting top players to show off the game to the fans.

I was so ready to spend the next few weeks trying to dissect as much information about how the game plays as I could from the tournament and all the offscreen gameplay, but what we were shown was a disappointment and I hope it isn't representative of the final product.

People like you, that throw the entire smash competitive community into the trash because a few people are overly abrasive about the mechanics of the game when you probably don't even understand why they are upset are the worst.

Abridged version of the final map theme from Awakening.

Stop saying this, please, for the love of God. >_<

They *can* be satisfied.

I will just freaking quote my post I made earlier.

One, it's the first time I express that opinion, and two, this doesn't change it. If they don't like it they can go back and play the Smash they like. Saying that isn't shitting on people with "understanding of what makes competitive Smash".

In a way we understand each other. The nagging is annoying.

This is... very disappointing...

Luigi's new FS looks a little like Kirby's old one (hopefully it's more useful, though.) As a Luigi main, I'm really looking forward to trying it out, since right now I'm not sure how I feel about it. I really loved the Negative Zone - that and Falcon's hit and run were my favorite FSs in Brawl - but I like that this time Luigi's gets an FS actually relevant to his games. The animation on it is awesome, too.

Also, I cannot for the life of me understand why they brought Nintendog and the Devil back. Worst ATs by far.

2 minutes and one KO

Sigh

Is that necessarily a fault of the game, though? The people playing in that Treehouse - forgive me - don't look like the world's greatest Smashers.

I think the air nerfs sound pretty bad, but hear me out on this alternative perspective. Just want to know what most people think is the focus on Melee, PM, and Brawl.

Would it be fair to say that the current meta is focused on the air? I think it is. You see many characters start something either with an aerial or with a grab. It isn't common seeing characters play on the ground, you would mostly see them using their ground stuff only for the kill, but even that is pretty rare with people using their air game to keep characters off stage.

So basically what I'm saying is this change (if unchanged till release) would mean a pretty big meta change as to how approaches and aerials are used. Though if the shield is too good, then it would be terrible.

I'm not saying you can't complain, or shouldn't, or not want change. Just looking at it in a way that where it won't change, but what it means.

I think this is a very good point. I would agree that with L-cancelling in 64 and Melee and the way air dodging works in Melee and Brawl that the meta is pretty focused on the air game. There are many approaches and attacks that work with this sort of air-focused meta.

Based on what we have seen for the new Smash it definitely seems like there is a much bigger focus on the ground game. This isn't inherently bad, but I would argue that the mobility and aerial options in previous Smash games are a defining gameplay characteristic for the series. Heavy ground metas are pretty common to most fighting games (i.e. Street Fighter), and they work in those games because they're designed and balanced to accommodate that. With Smash, while I'm not saying this shift in the meta would be necessarily bad, I do have to wonder if the change is "missing the point" of Smash, or at least what sets it apart from other series/fighting games.

Seeing the Kirby v. Zero Suit match in the finals made it pretty clear that with the current build the game isn't really balanced for a ground-heavy meta, as reach characters could zone with minimal risk...I noticed HungryBox basically could not get past ZSS' forward B on the ground, couldn't poke with aerials without opening himself up, or even air dodge without suffering landing lag.

Don't forget Kirby!

Do we know if, and to what extent, those that stay the same have been tweaked? I believe someone said here yesterday that it's now easier to keep the rhythm on the Konga Beat, which hopefully makes it more effective

It's funny

You compare this playthrough to Ubisoft's fake-dialogue trailers for The Division and Rainbow Six

These guys are making jokes, enjoying themselves, talking about the game

I loved

"Nice of you to pick the stage that's best for you, Nate"
"Yeah, it's weird how that happened, huh"

Looks like villager can air stall well with his side-b
No helpless state.
Better recovery horizontally then his up b
HE can get off the gyroid at will

Giga mac is not that big. Some of the larger characters are about thr same

The villager playing on treehouse seems pretty good, confirming my suspicion that heis just a character that will take a lot of practice to get used to

Coliseum music is amazing

What about those of us who LOVE the light arrows? Its a really good FS and I'm glad its still in.

Hey guys, now that I'm thinking about it, are characters always facing the screen in this build? Or maybe it depends on which move was just used?

Maybe my memory isn't that great but I don't remember it beig quite that crazy. I know there were some insane ledgegrabs, but that really caught my eye. And I (up until recently) played Brawl semi-regularly.

I'll try to be hopeful that will change because it did look super awkward and huge.
