Destiny Alpha Thread: Impressions from the wild [Code Begging=ban]

Is there something wrong with the online portion of it today? I have yet to see a single other player today, even in the Tower, while yesterday they were everywhere.
 
It's a big tease putting those high end weapons and armor guys in the hub. I ended up spending all of my glimmer on a new Emblem. Totally worth it.
 
Has anyone got any specific tactics for bosses?

I realised with spider tanks you shoot the legs and eventually the armour falls off, exposing the 'neck, of the tank that gives you a short window of big damage.

Then if you carry on shooting the same leg you do much less damage. So the idea is everyone target one leg, take the armour down, then everyone shoot the 'neck' while it's exposed. Then get everyone target the next leg. And repeat. Takes a lot less time if you do it properly.

Would like to hear some tactics for Sepkis Prime and it just seems like a damage sponge.
You can shoot off the Walker's cannon on the top.

For Sepiks Prime, keep in mind he always focuses his attention on who's dealing him the most damage.
 
I'll be on in five minutes, playing until my wife gets home. I don't have a headset, but I'll happily co-op with anyone. I'll be playing a new exo, which I'm making right now.

I realize with lvl 8 'green' gear I'm kicking up a storm in MP. Even got an unstoppable medal I think?
 
Man, what a turnaround in how people feel about this game. Perfect time to get this alpha out, really. Still a few months left to go, beta in a month, hype will build naturally.
 
Yoooooooooooooo this game is Awesome, can't believe i was doubting Bungie, before playing the A;hpa i thought this game was another generic shooter, but its so much more, it feels sort of like a rpg, if you combined Halo + Final Fantasy 14 you get Destiny lol
 
Peter Dinklage's performance is pretty terrible. It's a shame, his voice sounds awesome! The delivery is just very off, as if they only did one take and he didn't know the context for each scene.

Does this game go below 30fps on PS4? I know this is an alpha, but what are they shooting for?

Has anyone found any Marathon references so far?
 
Been reading through the impressions.

So how does the open world work? Do you run into other plays often? Or is it pretty quiet? It would be really interesting to run into other players and party up.
Seems on the quiet side to me.

But then I guess not many have this yet. It is nice though that you can get your missions done quicker thanks to other players helping to kill enemies.
 
Just played some coop with some gaffers in the wild really REALLY digging this game. Some thoughts:
*Spider tank can eat a dick looks like this game game be quite challenging.
*seems a lot of people are picking knife thrower dude. (I did as well)
*enemies scale to the levels of your team playing through the same sections with different people and got harder enemies.
* Hive knights = chaos marines.
*hub world = mass effect
*looks great on the vita and is somewhat playable ( shot gun recoil made aiming super difficult here for me though and when we hit a defend section in swooped to ds4 because I felt like I was letting my buddies down )

Sorry if you was in my gaf fire team just I had to bail early start tomorrow.

the hoverbike is cool, wish It had guns.

I just danced with six people in the tower.

dinklage's voice is a nice perk - although tywin would have been awesome.

Feels so good to finally try it out after spending the last 3 days watching others do it.

Overall it's very enjoyable. Love the shooting, movement, visuals Though there are some things that have stood out so far, that I think could be better.

1. Respawn rates.
The respawn rate is simply too high for my liking. I was in the area where you can get the public event with the spider tank. And I couldn't even manage to clear the area before respawned enemies started to shoot at me again. Gave me the feeling that killing enemies was pointless in that area, hopefully not something Bungie is going for.

2. Variation.
There is not any variation in enemies at a spawn location, always seem to be the exact same mix of units and faction. This makes the world feel very static and scripted. Adding some randomness to this could help make the game feel more dynamic I think.

Another area that lacks variation is the rewards for exploring. It's always "just" a chest with some glimmer, and maybe an item/crafting material. I would love to see something like video and audiologs scathered across the wasteland. It would add some variation, as well as help the player get some lore insight, and it would fit with the theme of Destiny being about recovering what humanity lost during the fall. Would also make sense that such logs could be turned in for rewards and be part of exploration mode objectives.

The enviroments are gorgeous and really well crafted, except for those small caves and what I assume are spawn rooms. These are very common in Old Russia, and it just kinda takes me out of the immersion when I enter the exact same cave for the fifth time in forty minutes

Would also love to see other salvagable materials than only those spin metal plants, or whatever they are.


There were some other things, but I seem to have forgotten what they were atm. Will write them Down when I re-remember.
 
Someone that has played this more than me please let me know if I'm right about this. If I miss picking up loot that has dropped during a mission, the postmaster back in the hub will have it for me when I return. Is that correct? I ask because I did a solo mission and then came back and she had gear and guns for me.
 
wow, amazing game. so much potential based on this alpha. i played about an hour of bf:hardline and then jumped into this. let me tell you, i was initially more hyped for hardline. not anymore. i was worried this would be too much like halo, which i'm not really a fan of. but anyway on to better impressions.

outstanding art design and menus. the hover mouse feature is great. also love the way you can easily compare things when talking to the gunsmith at the tower.

the shooting feels really good. went with a female risen (i think) hunter. love the scout rifle. then i finally got the golden gun doodad (can't remember what it's called). loved whipping it out on fools and just decimating. felt so powerful compared to the scout rifle (but the scout rifle is no slouch).

i can see this being a long term title for me. there's loot, coop, and i understand there will be quests separate from the campaign that will pop up from time to time so your friends can go out adventuring together. i'm more for coop play these days then pvp so i'm really looking forward to it.

the only downside is, i don't have many psn friends. feel free to send me a friend request. my psn id is legbone just like my gaf name. please put something about being a gaffer in the message so i will know to add you and not just delete. one warning: i don't have a mike at the present time. i am waiting on one to get here from amazon. should be here monday. alpha will probably be over by then but i will dance for you.
 
Sepkis prime. Jesus, Jumped in right after the intro level and WOW what a damage sponge.

Game is really great, I was the guy on my team doing the damage why the other players just stood around doing pretty much nothing.

Did the first Story-mission + the next daily hub? Of the same area. Did roughly 5/6 non-consquential missions + an event where a tank raped 6 of us for 5 minutes. Gun play is extremely solid; it reminds me of Halo but with the proper mechanics to have ADS, without it feeling like CoD or the other million cover shooters out there. Scaling feels a bit too borderlands esque, didn't like running into an enemy that was just a giant HP pool as opposed to having some unqiue AI elements. Right before I logged off I went to the hub-area, looks really solid. Off the to the gym then I'll play this non-stop till I pass out.

Make a guy, you get dropped in the world and tyrion helps you find your way. Then you go to the hub world. Then select a mission after that.

It's all pretty simple.
