Destiny Alpha Thread: Impressions from the wild [Code Begging=ban]

So I missed the initial sign in for the Bungie.net e-mail thing. Any way that I can do that after the initial launch of the Alpha? I can't find it anywhere on the menu or options screen.

I finished the tutorial mission and went to the Tower, only to find a gate blocks me from going into the area where I have a green objective marker. I'm assuming I'm not allowed in for alpha?

While I was in the tutorial mission a random public quest boss spawned. I shot at it for awhile and it's HP didn't even budge. I guess they balanced it for a zerg of 20 people, not me solo.

Graphics look really good, comparable to Killzone Shadow Fall at first glance.
Downstairs. Look down.
It would bother me far less if it actually locked at 30fps. It drops like a motherfucker, yes.
Really? I haven't noticed drops in the way you described. It's really smooth to me.

Just remembered. One slight nitpick: Can we have an option to turn off the hitmarkers? Makes the single-player portions feel a bit multiplayer-like.

I'd like an option to turn off the numbers in general. Always reminds me I'm playing a video game instead of getting lost in the world.

There has to be a more elegant solution for showing crits...

There are stairs that lead down where you need to go, don't try to go through the upper level.

Fios throttles different companies unless they pay up... that might be the case. Also it's an Alpha... so servers for download may have been under estimated... and this will give them a better idea of demand for Sept. 9th.

So anyone with Fios have a fast download? if not, then Sony is to blame. Even tho it gives them a better idea, they are still to "blame" regardless of alpha or not. If there is a problem, blame goes to who is responsible whether justified or not.

if it's all Fios customers though, then fuck verizon

Playstation Plus required?

I was Exploring and I took a mission to scan something when at the end of it a spider crawler thing came down, along with lots of enemies and it said I joined a Public Event, yet nobody joined.

After kiting the thing for a few minutes waiting for people to join and help me, I bailed. No way I could take that thing by myself at a low level.

Anyone else join a Public Event and have people join? I only explored for a bit but I didn't meet any other players in the world -- only the Tower so far.

After crawling speeds for the last 3 hours, my download just started flying 2 minutes ago. Looks like network relief is on the way!

Many many times. It's pretty cool. :)

Anyone down to get a PvP party going? I don't necessarily want to spam all the people on my friends list. Would love to roll with some gaffers. Feel free to add me on PSN: Heaven-Assassin1

95 Hours Left...

If it seems like your download gets stuck, go into Settings > Network > uncheck 'Connect to Internet', count to 5 mississippi, and re-check it. A lot of times the connection to PSN servers will timeout and not re-connect. This will force it.

After playing for a couple more hours, I started getting bored. Of course, the representation of content in the alpha is no where near what will be in the final product, so got to consider that.

To me the gunplay felt pretty solid, not terrible, not spectacular. It certainly had the Bungie Halo feeling to it, at least to me it did, not a bad thing, just feels familiar.

Most of the missions I've done are kill things to get drops or just flat out kill things. Gets pretty boring after a while.

Visually, game looks solid. Again, not fantastic, but certainly not terrible. It's kind of jarring seeing pretty high resolution textures in some places (even more odd, like on small objects) then lower resolution textures on large surface areas. Art direction is very strong and the colour in the game is gorgeous.

Soundtrack so far is fantastic, Marty knows how to score games and create atmosphere.

Only played one match of multiplayer so I can't really comment too much on it, other than I didn't enjoy it that much. Run of the mill competitive FPS.

I'll be playing more on the weekend when I have more time as a different class to get a better idea of how all the classes work.

I tried the Warlock after playing the Hunter for a bit and I can't understand what I would ever need a hover move for. Double jump is so much better.

You need to go under. I missed at first too.

Loving the Alpha so far. Very polished and has beautiful visuals and sound.

Loving the d-pad animations/taunts.

Recorded some footage through my Elgato of a pretty lucky kill I had. Not sure if this is the place for it though.

The Alpha really reminds me of Ground Zeroes, except it didnt cost $29.99, and was free! Its just a little tiny taste of the game. When does this Alpha shut down and become unplayable? I like missions where i can go off by myself.
Here is a shot of remote play on vita that i took with a real camera. (sorry for crappy quality please dont rip me a "new one"). Game looks great on the OLED!

Been playing the alpha for a couple of hours (multiplayer). Feels decidedly last gen - the 30 fps and Reach style visuals make it feel old - in fact Halo 4 on 360 runs and looks as good. Hope there's a hook to the main game, as Destiny MP is not going to be taking up much of my time.

The download speed is just crashing. Like it flat out doesn't want to download the file. Is there any way to download the file on my PC and transfer it to the PS4 or something?

Like I'm looking at 24 hours and the numbers keep going up.

Sniper Rifle is legit. I'm digging it. Picked up what I guess is a rocket launcher somewhere along the way, but never got to try it. Level 5 right now, and me and another guy took down an event boss which took forever, but was a good challenge.
