I'm not kidding when I say this but this is going to be a big game changer for me. I've always been a gamer but Halo was a big turning point for me, i'm feeling this will be the same thing. Especially now i'm older and can appreciate things better.

The game looks gorgeous, the menus, user interface are gorgeous. I love the movement the feel of navigating around the menus and options. The music is incredible especially that main choir theme one. I'm in awe!

Already the bungie.destiny site is complex with a billion options, tracking stats, social elements and stuff..

I think i'm going to really get into this game. PvP is fun as ever but co-op will be a massive step up. It's a little odd not hearing the Halo MP announcer guy voice but the new one is alright.

If people are doubting or debating on getting a Xbox one or PS4 I think this is the game to push them over the edge (I know its last gen too, but it won't be nearly was impressive.)

Just checked out https://alpha.bungie.net/ and even the UI there is great.
 
Also how do I join a co-op game with randoms?

I got home crazy late last night and am back at work unGodly early....I only managed to play maybe 10 minutes but I did not see how to co-op or pvp ect..

Game looks damn fun

Halo + Warframe + Borderlands = awesome
 
only played for a little bit. When you're in old russia but haven't opened that garage door thing, do the small parties of level 3 enemies just keep respawning infinitely?

bumped into a couple of other players wandering around, got together to kill a few enemies etc. But when you get your sprite thing to open the gate, they disappeared - does it then switch you into a separate instance? If I allow others into my 'fireteam' would that let them come with me onto those missions, or are they single player only?


I also went down a different route and bumped into some pretty strong enemies that my weapons were only doing 1 damage on. Backed out pretty quickly. I wonder if those I can have others help me fight?

If you bump into them during gameplay then R3 on them and there's a prompt to bring up details. You then just click add to fire team (I think) to join up with them.

The tower is the best place as it's full of people to recruit into teams.
 
I had no expectations going into the alpha, but it's really good. The movement is solid and most importantly, the controls feel good, which is everything when it comes to shooters.

Chances of day 1 very high.
 
I don't think I have seen anyone complain about this game yet and I won't either. Loving what I have experienced so far, and I only had time to jump into multi-player for an hour. Can't wait to get into the other modes and test out the other classes.

Yes, enemies around Old Russia will keep respawning forever.

The players dissapeared because once you enter that area during the Story mission, you are instanced from other players. But like you said, if you allow those players into your fireteam/group, then they can come along for the mission.

You could absolutely have someone fight together with you agains't those ?? enemies, however it would probably not do much even if you were a full raid. They are clearly way to high level for players to tackle in the alpha with our gear and lvl cap of 8.
 
This may have already been answered, but I can't download it. I redeemed the code on the website, and it's in my "Library". However, when I click it to download, no "download" button appears.

Edit: Never mind, it's appeared on the website's "Download List" now. It wasn't there before.
 
Played for about 2 hours and I gotta say.... I got really bored. The game itself seems fun and incredibly inspired except for your ghosts voice acting. I think the level progression was a bit slow and that's what kind of killed it for me.

Then again I am aware this is just a tiny sliver of the larger whole. I have this preordered so I'll be in the beta also. I hope it has more to it than this.

All in all I'm still hyped. Will give it more of a go later. How long does the alpha last for? Is it just the weekend?
 
Managed to play a few more hours before school today. Got some more gear and completed the strike on brave difficulty. So I managed to find some more things about the game that I think could be better :P

1. Patrol missions.

First off I'm not a big fan of the fact that the only missions you get in patrol mode, all come from the exact same rod looking thing placed all around the zone. Would prefeer some variety somehow, so I don't like to feel my patrol sessions consists of walking from rod to rod, picking up missions.

I'm also not a big fan of getting a mission, and then have to litterally travel to a completely different part of Old Russia on the other side of it. For three reasons.
It just creates a lot of travel time that becomes somewhat tedious after a while.
And there's no way of knowing how far away the objective is located, it might be in the area right next to the one your in, but it might also be be several areas away from the location you pick up the mission in.
It also is very annoying if I want to complete missions in an area with lvl 5 enemies, and I then get sent to an area with enemies that are either too low or too high in lvl.

2. Bullet sponge bosses.
I did the Devil's Lair strike mission on the easiest setting with 2 random people. The strike is lvl 6, but we were lvl 8, 8 and 7. Personally I vastly overgeared the place according to the game itself. and I imagine that the 2 other players were at least adequately geared for the easy version of the strike as well.

However, we still spend the majority of the strike mission on the spider tank and end boss fights. The spider tank fight took us probably 12-13 minutes to kill, and the end boss around 8-9 minutes. That's just too much time spend pumping bullets, grenades and rockets into an enemy imo. In fact, most raid bosses in WoW on heroic don't takes this long to kill, unless your raid is generally undergeared for the fight.

And I feel I need to mention that yes, we did shoot the legs on the spider tank and revealed it's core several times throughout the fight. I'm sure we could have done a much better job of course, but most people are gonna fight these bosses disorganized like we did.

This criticim is mainly regarding the Brave difficulty level, on Legendary I want the bosses to be hard and tough, and require players to play well to make the bosses managable. However even then I could imagine seeing myself feeling that the fights are too long. I don't think a boss in this type of game should take longer to kill than a legitemate end game raid boss on hardmode, in a standard straight up mmo like WoW. 4-6 minutes would probably be a good area to aim for in regards to how much time bosses should take to kill imo.

3. Spider Tank cannon readability
I find that the Spider Tanks cannon can be very hard to read. By this I mean that it can very hard to properly avoid it's cannon attack or know when it will fire. I've gotten killed a couple of times because I was simply unable to tell that it was targeting me, of course the cannon was in my general direction, but I was unable to tell that it was actually me that was the one being aimed at. I'm guessing the laser targeting is supposed to be the thing that tells you that you should be standing here. However that laser beam doesn't seem to target exactly where the Spider Tank will shoot, nor always appear. Making it frustrating when you get blown up despite moving away from the laser targeting, or simply dying because the Spider Tank fired the cannon without any laser beam ever appearing near you to indicate your being targeted.


If any of you bothered you read all that, please keep in mind that I'm not out to hate on the game, but I know Bungie people like Urk read this forum, so this is pretty much me trying to give some in depth feedback that Bungie can hopefully use to improve the areas of the game that I feel could be better.
The Spider Walker or w/e goes down really quickly if you're coordinated with your team to focus-fire one leg at a time. Sepiks Prime, though, I definitely agree that his health could be brought down a little.

Did you do any Strikes or PvP? The "Explore" option where you're free to run around is meant to be pretty low-engagement.
 
how do the stats on the weapons work? eg in the tower they give you a weapon with 43 'attack', yet the stats can be lower than a lower level weapon I already have (eg they give you a 43 trax callum I, but I already had a trax callum II-A, with higher impact but only 36 attack)

Yeah like I said I'm sure we could have done that spider tank fight much better if we were coordinated. However I think it's important that Bungie balance at least the normal version of strikes towards a group of randoms playing together without voice chat or any dicernable coordination. In more traditional pc mmo's. even in random groups you still have a chatbox where you can go over the tactics very easily. Not the case in Destiny due to the console limitations.
 
Game is awesome. My brother and I had a blast last night. Killing aliens and laughing as our characters danced, literally. Never doubt Bungie.

Nah. I'm gonna give it another go later. I made it to lvl 5 as a hunter and just wandered around doing missions. I ran into a bunch of lvl 8 players and all the enemies were leveled to them and not me. Wasn't to hard.

My warlock attempt got annihilated at the first hive encounter.

Is there friendly fire and how long does the alpha last?

Your character takes his helmet off on the Tower.
 
How do you unlock the ability to upgrade your weapon? I have done it on one I think. Is it just a case of using it a lot? Is there a way to track your progress with it?
 
My only complaint really was the bosses HP in the strike.

Shit was ridiculous and it's impossible to coordinate a team without some kind of text chat at a bare minimum.


Actually a ton of fun. Was pleasantly surprised.
 
Played for a few hours last night and really enjoyed it.
Only complaints I have so far is the voice acting from Peter Dinklage just seems flat and out of place. As others have stated, it almost sounded like a place holder.

Regarding loot - I think loot should be displayed a bit better on ground similar to how borderlands did it. I will just be walking around and see loot pop up in the right hand side of the hud. Would love to see it actually drop off named champions and loot crates while showing a color that matches the rarity of the item. Much more satisfying to do loot this way IMO. Gimme dat mad lootz Bungie!

Other than that this game is fun. I hope the final game is packed with content like that Devil's Lair Strike!
 
Do the bosses actually scale? I never noticed a level indicator, and it would explain why it took me and two others so damn long to bring them down.
 
I found out if you go into your rooster and enable join anyone to play with randoms. As default its locked at friends only. Met up and playing with some cool people already!


So cool, we were in that old russia area with the big downed ship there was a random event to kill three waves of these drop pods. We do so about 5 of us soon as it completed it we all started dancing in celebration haha it was really awesome and funny to watch
 
Game looks gorgeous, i'll give it a go this weekend. If I got an email with a code and notification through PSN does that mean I got 2 copies of the Alpha?
 
Are there rare heavy weapons in this? I think that's the only kind of rare equipment I am missing right now in this Alpha.
