Now that the PS4 has the touch pad and can act as multiple buttons, it would be awesome if they could now implement Push-To-Talk for voice chat. Maybe have it so that when you place your finger on the touch pad it activates or when you press it down in the bottom right/left corner.

Now that I think of it, I agree with these points, too:

Mute Protagonist

As excited as I was to see that yes, you do get to design your character’s actual face which is on display during un-helmeted, non-combat segments, namely those in the Tower, I’m troubled by the fact that your character doesn’t speak. I understand that a colossal amount of voicework that goes into making MMOs as is, and recording male and female voices for three different races probably would have quadrupled Bungie’s workload in that department, but it’s just strange to play a game that literally has everything but a talking hero. For a game that is supposed to be story driven in many aspects, a silent hero seems really dated. I’m guessing it’s just a technical or budgetary impossibility, but it’s disappointing all the same.

The Dinklagetron 3000

Since your character is mute, the voice you’ll be hearing more often than any other is that of your AI, Ghost. As many players will recognize immediately, the computer is voiced by none other than Game of Thrones’ Peter Dinklage. The actor is indisputably phenomenal on that show, and in his films, but his voicework here is…odd. I suppose as an AI it makes sense to have a relatively flat tone, but Dinklage’s Ghost doesn’t sound like a droll computer, it just sounds like Peter Dinklage reading lines from a script in a studio. Compared to his video game AI competition in the form of GLaDOS, Wheatley, Cortana and others, the voicework is weirdly off-putting and out of place, which is strange given the actor’s obvious talent elsewhere.

Race/Class Diversity

(...)

Each class has a different type of grenade and a super melee attack, both on lengthy cooldowns, and much of your skill spec-ing and gear is based on lowering said cooldowns. I don’t really understand why this system is better than just finding grenades or throwing knives in the wild to be used at will, and it just feels overly restrictive.

I want a minimap and a map. They need to replace the voice actor that plays your guide. I wouldn't mind a permanent 3rd person option intead of switching back and forth all the time. Also four weapons instead of 3 would be better. They need to highlight the loot better and have more loot.

I haven't played enough to fully judge it but so far I do like it. It is a lot like borderlands.

I'm sure it'll feel better later with more cool down reduction but for the moment it doesn't feel like I get to do the class' thing often enough. I made a warlock after a hunter. It's basically the same. I think I'll play a side more and stop. This was a nice taste although I'd like to see the beta too before I commit.

I don't know, it seems im enjoying the game because I have too. I mean its Bungie...big time hype surrounding this game.

But from what I have played ( most of the missions and im lvl 8 ) it seems like its kind of boring and repetitive. There needs to be more weapons available, more cosmetic changes available to them and more "flair" with how they operate. I didn't feel the need to search the area or hunt down new equipment- something that should be a staple in a game like this.

I find its just missing some magic that makes me not want to put the controller down. Which is a shame because before I felt this game was made with me as its target audience.

Alpha not having more weapons available ≠ not weapons available in retail.

Just tinkered around with exploration mode for a few hours and i think i like it more than the strikes. It has a very journey-esque multiplayer system that works well.

Half way done my shift. All I can think about is getting home to play more!!

Im spreading the hype around to my coworkers.

My psn is lookatmego1984
But i will be under the name of Th3Fall3n9996 because I had to create a new psn acount to get the Alpha to work.

See you out there soon

Anyone else actually canceling their preorder after playing the Alpha? This game is really boring. The enemies are dumb, don't have interesting interactions or reactions and simply aren't fun to fight and respawn constantly in the exact same places. The bosses are just dumb bullet sponges. The environments are empty with very little to find. The explore missions are terrible and the multiplayer is even worse than Halo 4 with people running around with instant kill fusion rifles.

I'll give the game another try with the Beta, but right now I've lost all interest in it.

Plan to attempt the strike mission again on legendary, now that I've reached level 8 and have some cool weapons to kick ass with. See you guys tonight (and the weekend, I suppose)

Um I just got a notification on my phone that I got some alpha or something for it. Is it very buggy and is it fun to play?

And what's the criteria for getting an invite? I'm assuming PS+?

I fucked up while in a vendor screen and spent all of my blue squares on multiples of the same armour. I had no idea what the screen was or what I was doing - I thought it was equipping something. Mess lmao

20 is probably just the overall cap. Rare weapons fan be leveled separately and subclasses can be customized.

I think this is the thing. There's going to be a lot of different things to level up, but leveling up each thing is going to go quickly. I get the impression bungie wants you to try a bunch and develop interesting playstyles, rather than pursue a 100 hour level up treadmill.

Here's some good reading, http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2013/12/27/the-character-progression-of-destiny.aspx

and a great vid on it, http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2013/12/13/designing-the-rpg-elements-of-destiny.aspx

Sorry, that's not my experience - which is that the back panel just hasn't been included yet, meaning no access to a host of buttons. I guess it's yet to come.

Aw, that stinks. I am sorry. I feel like a jerk.

I actually think a lot of the voice acting is good, his various lines when right after you spawn in Old Russia are very well delivered. But almost all of his lines in the story mission are terribly written imo, making the his lines come of as sounding really stupid.

Ahh, gotcha. They don't really have the time to rewrite then get him to reread, do they?

I like the competitive multiplayer way more than I thought I would. My first game I got a 5-kill streak.

I was mostly positive on it except for the super moves. Getting a streak going is great until someone ends it by pulling an instant kill energy rocket out of their back pocket with no warning or risk.

Eh, playing the Alpha kinda elevated my hype for this game and my anticipation for the beta.

Is anyone unable to connect to PSN? I just tried to play and it keeps telling me that it's unable to connect to psn and to please check my internet and psn status. But I'm able to login and access the store and everything.

I played for a few hours on my Vita and it feels really good there, probably the best remote play experience I've had so far. The worse part is aiming with the right analog stick, it's just not very precise, but after putting the sensitivity down the 3 it's fine.

I'm really enjoying the game so far.

This game is so good, PSN preorder here I come. I'm just worried about leveling up. Getting from lvl3 to lvl8 took like 3 hours and then there's this "rumor" about a lvl20 cap, gulp? Menus were annoying but I guess that cursor pointing grows on me or something. Oh yes and those underground levels/places felt so static and dull; no moving parts anywhere. But everything else's just <3. I want the whole game now please.

Oh wow, didn't even think to try it on remote play. I'll have to give that a go tonight.

I think the game is awesome. Wasn't sure how I would feel about the MMO elements but they don't get in the way of SP enjoyment. The public events are pretty damn cool though. Having everyone in that area fall in to take down the objective awesome.

The portion of the map they have int he alpha, old russia, is freaking huge but if that is the only map portion for earth then that will be a huge let down (but I doubt it is).

I was always planning to get the game but now I know its well worth the money.

I want a map, but only the kind you have to fill in yourself. Gives me the feeling of charting new territory. The only way you could get away with having no map is having a map dotted with extremely recognizable landmarks if you dont have that, then you just have to have a map or people will get lost and frustrated and walk away from the game.

Best pic I could get of my exo since I neglected to do it at character creation

I can access the store and such but my friends list keeps going in and out with error code WS-37504-9. Gotta wonder if PSN isn't getting slammed right now.

Oh hey. That sounds like what I did. In fact, I'm pretty sure if all the bolded are true, it was you. Hi, nice meeting you (again). Yeah, that was a PITA. Never has my moral sunk so low after dying. I felt like quitting and going to sleep after every respawn (sitting down before heading out to doom). The damn Sentinel just spawns super powered Fallen captains out of his arse. But nah, it gets easy. We were just all severely underpowered. A squad of 3 with decent weapons can do each boss in about 10 minutes. And there's an AI glitch that keeps the Fallen spawned from the Sentinel downstairs if you stay on a platform upstairs.

Took about 8 minutes or less to kill each boss when I did the Devil's lair. Of course, I have uncommon weapons with attack power in the 80+ range so I could damage the bosses easily. :^p I think it took me less than 30 minutes to finish the strike since my group barely died.

Just tried the pvp and need to adjust to it, especially since I got the moon map with vehicles. My fusion rifle is very powerful, but need a charge up time so my timing was off. XD

Anybody know how many people can be in a free roam game at one time? I'm dying to get a big group together and ambush the crap out of those 2 level (???) elders in the cave.

They will die before this alpha ends!

Argh I can't start the alpha. 'Unable to connect to PSN' but the store and other psn stuff works ok.

turn your console on and off, that solved it for me. It's not like alpha's carry a final UI either. Probably just a booting screen that can crash anytime. You can't take it personally when Bungie themselves warns you about technical difficulties.

The multiplayer announcer sucks. Not like Perfect Dark Zero sucks, but he's lame.

The in-game companion voice is fucking terrible too. These are just... "alpha" voice samples, right? Good grief. Such a huge step back from the excellent voice work in the Halo games.

Do we have any idea of how much content will be in Destiny at launch? The game seems fun enough, but it only took an hour or two before I was completely done with interesting stuff to do in the Old Russia level. How many levels are there gonna be?

Also, do we have any idea about how Activision plans to sell DLC for the game? It seems ripe for abuse, which would be a shame.

I think it's three at a time while doing coop. Good luck beating the level ??? guys, I think they're made to be invincible.

Yeah he is just there. Could use either more enthusiasm or someone with a more interesting voice.

Multiple planets and I would suspect also multiple regions per planet. You have just seen on part of Earth. Also there will be way more to do in the final lots of story missions for example.

Well, after 3 matches on that god awful earth map, I can tell I'm never gonna enjoy the PvP in this game.

I dunno, maybe (hopefully) it's just that earth map that's just fucking terrible, really wanted to try the moon map (of course I got the shitty map 3 times instead), it's seems a bit more open, not too mention it's fucking gorgeous, while the earth map is just really ugly visually. Guess not even bungie can make crumbled brick buildings in a swamp area look pretty. Why they choose such a visually dull and dreary map for the alpha is beyond me, I mean at this point all the maps has to be complete and they're just polishing.

Don't really know what I can see about the gameplay, I think plenty of people have said it already, it feels too much like a CoD shooter, ADS didn't really bother me in the PvE stuff, but in multiplayer it's just fucking terrible, only shootout's I've enjoyed were the handful of times I was close enough to use hipfire with my fusion rifle and not miss every shot. TTK is abominable, feels like Bungie wanted to make a multiplayer shooter that did the opposite of what made Halo games so fun in MP.
