Destiny Alpha Thread: Impressions from the wild [Code Begging=ban]

Wouldn't a larger FOV also destroy the framerate as the game has to render a lot more stuff in the player vicinity rather then when it's a fixed FOV and developers can count on that being the same and design around that.

Exactly. That's why it's not going to happen in a console game.

How much Glimmer do you lose when you die?

What's the best way to farm Glimmer in the alpha? Free roaming gives relatively little - maybe just blitzing the story mission over and over again?

Why do you need to farm glimmer? I have more glimmer than there is stuff to spend it on.

Lol those ??? Mofos are a BITCH.

I got past the first two, there's another doorway just past their hallway, I made it through there an got shot as I was running down that hallway.

Must keep trying! Anyone want to join me???? StrykerIsland

Success! There is a LOOT box behind the ??? Guys!!

If you can make it into the room, they leave you alone and give you a chance to breathe, lol.

Destiny seems to be pretty replayable.

None of your points address what I think the problem is. If you're exploring and you just killed someone enemies, you wanna take a good look around, but it's hard to do that when you have to keep fighting enemies that respawn too quickly.

There's a huge spectrum between spawning too quickly and spawning so slowly you have to got the other side of the map to find enemies.

Weird. I was able to go afk for a few minutes every now and then without getting attacked in between without any problems so you should be able to stop and look around.
You make it sound like there are literally less than 10 seconds between respawns.

Because the fastest way to get level 8 gear is to just spam the Cryptarch over and over until he spits out something decent.

Gets expensive pretty quickly, especially when half the shit you get ends up being over level cap.

Is there a reason special ammo magically disappears when you switch weapons? Kinda punishes the player for trying new things/different strategies.

FOV change is never going to happen in a console game.

The second part would fundamentally change how the MP is designed and is also not going to happen. Especially not the part about the shotguns. What the hell are you even thinking?

How many people have complained about the FOV in this thread since the alpha went live? A lot.

How many people complained about the shotgun being OP and having no place in PvP? A lot.

Just because it's something I request or hope for doesn't mean you need to ask me what the hell I'm thinking, don't like it you can kindly ignore my comments but otherwise there's a reason for the alpha, so we can give feedback, that's mine.

I would assume the Strike gives the best payout. High level enemies and you get gear you can dismantle.

There are times where it feels like that. I cleared an area, walked some steps and turned my back to the area. Then the respawn sound came and there they were again.

While other places have stayed clear for rather large amounts of time and distance. So it might be different from place to place (and on need of balance).

But it's also worth suggesting / asking for realistic stuff. Which a FOV slider or change really isn't.

And I think a lot of people are overestimating just how much Bungie can change in three months (closer to two considering certification process). And just what this Alpha is.

They can look at the balancing but that's about it. Everything else is just unrealistic expectations.

I thought that this was pretty annoying as well. A bug, maybe?

Definitely sucked - the first time it happened to me was in the middle of a boss fight. Kind of a kick in the balls.

I'm glad I found out before I ended up doing it with a heavy weapon.

Speaking of heavy weapons, do the rocket launchers seem vastly underpowered when compared to the LMGs to anyone else? It seems like there's no reason to use it over the LMG, it's even harder to hit weakpoints with it! I've hit the orb right directly in the face with it before and I didn't get a critical damage number - what gives?

In some areas of Forgotten Shores, it's really fast. Within a minute, and it's not only Forgotten Shores.

I've probably been playing the game longer than you, combing over Old Russia. I think I realize what I'm saying. :)

I'm a bit sad that there's only going to be 20 levels (seemingly) in the full game.

Wouldn't be surprised that if they released major DLC every 6-12month that increases the level cap by 5 and introduce a new planet (this might be their alternative to having a subscription).

How many planets will we have in the full game? Earth, Moon, Mars, Mercury and a fifth one?

I was playing with a couple of guys earlier and we died a fair few times on that strike level, I found it quite challenging but rewarding once done.

I was still 5050 before the alpha, maybe if I hadn't of got in i might of never bought it at all but so glad I did get in.

Kinda gives me resistance fom nostalgia online with pvp, not sure why just a personnel feeling and I've now pre order for the beta and will definitely be getting it at launch. It feels like the possibilities could be endless, with missions and new maps to explore.

I'm currently engaged in a 20 minute and counting dance party with other players on the roof of the mail room. I'm fully sold on the game now.

I think the shotgun/sniper needs to have more rare ammo in mp. Most teams run around with the shotgun the entire game - me included.

I'd also like to see a bit more kickback on the sniper. I feel like it's far to easy to just double tap.

Would be nice to have some sort of physical counter to vehicles (like boarding, plasma nades, plasma pistol, something).

Overall really solid, but definitely needs some tweaking when it comes to the combat balance in PvP. The coop and single player are fantastic though. I think the pm holds promise, but I think there's some stuff that is clearly the definitive winning loadout instead of having different guns for different play styles.

Only complaint I have are boss fights, they're just bullet sponges. The devil mission with septus prime(?) once my team got him to about 20% health a bunch of grunts started spawning and a few captains. Which made it ridiculously difficult and not in the fair way, horrible game game design right there. Besides that day one still.

Echoes my thoughts too. I was having fun with the game up until it took so long to kill that boss.

get better equipment, change up tactics. you'll be amazed at how easy the boss becomes :)

i actually love the design. battles always keep you on your toes, and you have to come up with strategies that involve your whole fireteam. and the boss itself changes up, that teleport ability the boss has is really cool, can pop up right behind you any second :P

Yeah, that's why I asked how much glimmer you lose when you die. Completing a strike without dying when you're with randoms is no small feat.

I guess it depends on how much endgame content there is. It does seem pretty low.

There is no death penalty. Well except if everyone dies you have to start over from the last checkpoint.

According to the contact it will be expansion pack next year, sequel the following year. Repeat for the next decade.

first off, how is it an unrealistic expectation when it's just feedback/suggestion? Second, I've played enough multiplayer in my life to know that the shotguns in PVP right now will ruin it and in the end all people will do is run around with shotguns. People won't want to play. They are way too OP, fact.

What they decide to do in the final game is up to them, but until then I think they would like us to be vocal about things we feel are wrong. Isn't this what the alpha is for?

Fair enough if there are indeed different spawn times for different enemies / parts of the map but coming from an MMO point of view most of the time a longer spawn time is more of a problem than a shorter one so I'm personally hoping they don't change it even if it's just for the sake of farming certain enemy types for bounties and stuff.

I'm not. I don't want to have to go through so many levels. I think Bungie is making the right design decision by making the game more about your abilities and finding loot than it is about leveling.

Plus, your Guardian might carry over into future Destiny titles.

Yeah, but see, Destiny isn't an MMO. It may have MMO-like elements, but that's not what it is.

Free-roam is all about exploring and experiencing an area. That's why the respawn timers should be turned up.

What's even the point of having levels though if you can get to level 20 within two days?

Seems bizarre to me.

Vita-Gaf, how do I sprint via remote play? Apart from that I am having a blast free roaming on my Vita, control scheme is perfect!
Down on the D-Pad. Just slide your finger off the stick while pushing it forward.
For an action that requires holding two things with one finger, it works surprisingly well. It's a very smart control scheme.

again rockets don't fit in shotguns and sniper bullets don't fit in shotguns

But it works that way with all of the primary weapons. It shares your pool of ammunition, even when you switch weapons.

And green ammunition looks all the same on the ground, I don't really see your point.

Why does it share ammunition for Primary but not Special?

What gives, I just finished a strike without dying and the bounty I had for that didn't say I completed it. I assume because it gives EXP and 8 is the cap it doesn't work correctly? I don't know.
