Destiny Alpha Thread: Impressions from the wild [Code Begging=ban]

So, I can login to another account on my PS4 and get into the game just fine, despite them not having alpha keys. But using my primary account that I've been playing the past couple days on no problem, I can't get in... This is strange, to say the least.

Has anyone managed to actually kill the ??? level enemies when you venture a little too far when exploring?

I've only found two places like that, one near the start position, and another deep underground, apparently some sort of Hive nest or something.

Well there certainly seems to be a sprawling city below the Tower but who knows if you'll ever get a chance to explore it
It's probably like PSO, where you have this huge colony ship... with most of it just serving as a backdrop and all you get to use are a few stores, an identification shop, and the guild place for quests.

Looks like somebody didn't level up before he/she went on the strike.

I spent my upgrade points, bought the best weapon available and equipped the better gear I had collected.

Yesterday I played the exploration mission for quite a while and got to level 7. It was starting to get repetitive so today I thought I'd do the Level 6 story mission.

More specifically, the Devil Walker fight just bored me to tears. After 5 minutes or so both people I was playing with managed to get themselves killed right by its feet and left the game. It had been a while and the thing still had more than 75% health, my bullets were doing nothing so I quit.

Next up I join another match, but apparently this time the game skipped to a point I hadn't gotten to before. I'm fighting a big purple thing that, again, barely takes damage from my bullets. My team mates again get themselves killed in a point I can't possibly get myself to and proceed to leave the game, and that's been my Destiny experience so far.

When I shoot something with a health bar, I want to see that health bar go down if even a little bit.

I quite enjoyed the atmosphere, the gunplay, the art and vistas are amazing. The game just got too much like an MMO for my liking.

Do all fusions take time to spin up?

Did not like. Then it seems like it only fires 1-2 bursts.

Am I missing something?

It takes a second or 2 for them to charge up, but it shoots a burst of 7. If the entire burst hits someone in PVP, they die instantly. Really good on big enemies in PVE, too.

Is it confirmed this is 30fps?

It feels smoother then 30 most of the time for me. Perhaps that is the old " no sudden 10+fps drop " thing going on. No stuttering or drastic changes makes for a much smoother experience no matter what the genre.

The fusion rifle makes me think of the Unreal Tournament istagib one hit kill ( or explosion more like it ) mod wep I used to do 1v1 public arena tournaments and matches with. Just ... boom ... dead, don't come back now ya hear?

Yup. It runs a solid 30 though.

so where is this exactly? how do i get there? :(

I'm so bad with directions :( I ran into it while I was lost trying to find the highway with the rusted cars. Which is all the way on the other side of Russia lol

What's the gunplay like, are enemies bulletspongy? Do the guns got some punch to them or do they feel like peashooters? How's the overall progression system, does it make you feel like you're improving and getting better stats and equipment?

When does this alpha end? I havent been on at all today!

I think it ends today ....

Not sure if they meant 12th-15th as in, it ends and not playable on the 15th or you can play on the 15th and it ends the 16th lol. I'm guessing you can play tomorrow.

The co-op mission bosses are a bit bullet spongy. Especially if you are lower level without strong weaponry. But now that I have a strong fusion rifle, rocket launcher and solid primary weapon they go down fairly quickly. The first time I did a boss it was like 25 minutes or so, dying 30 times lol. The next time around, with much better weaponry, it was about 10 minutes and died 3x. Just recently did a run within 5 minutes and died 0 times.

The weapons are badass. Plenty of punch. Especially love the feel, sound and effects of the fusion rifles. I am liking Scout weapons in my primary slot. Single shots, lots of pop and can do good headshots with em even from the hip.

Progression system is awesome.

You have a skill tree for your main character, looks like this

Tier 2 for grenades, as an example, for the hunter will change the single grenade into one that explodes into many other grenades that home and seek out enemies.

Weapons also have upgrades you can unlock via usage.

And you also gain specific stat points from armor that do various things.

I like that armor / weps are not static objects. I will pass up armor with a higher Armor stat if the overall product is not in line with what I'm looking for. Like if my gloves enhance my grenade cooldown speed I will keep those on, especially if they have added Discipline stats, which further decreases grenade cooldown.

Fusion rifles are excellent on those devil's lair bosses. :] It's also possible to kill 2 mobs at once and there's a bounty related to it (kill 2 enemies at once x 20 time).

I gave this game a second chance, and it was just as boring as the first time.

I choose this mission requiring three players to kill this OP spider thing and we're expected to grind away at killing it for an agonising 15 minutes?

Constantly running out of ammo and switching between cover isn't entertaining. Just when I thought things would get slightly more entertaining, the game changes your overcharge camera angle so that your aiming is wrong.

Fuck this game.

Am I getting grouped with bad teams or is this game just tuned really weird? I'm talking like 25 minute boss fights because we just aren't doing enough damage.

I'm having lots of fun, but these boss fights are LONG.

Really enjoying the game, but the UI bothers me a lot. Not the design itself, which I think is beyond amazing... but the actual usability. Having to move a cursor around the screen isn't the most optimal option.

It gets worse when you have to select the next place to travel to, and after you hit the location then you have to press a button on the other side of the screen.. on PC this would work easily, on PS4 it's just an extra meaningless step. Hopefully they do something about this because otherwise I LOVE the game (otherwise I wouldn't have 2 Destiny shirts either...).

You would think they'd utilize the touchpad for the UI :(

This is going to be such a basic question. It how the heck do I access the Strike? I must be missing something right in front of me because it's not showing in any of the modes I have highlighted

Well, it tends to group you with people around your level. Don't think I've gone longer than 30 minutes on the whole mission since hitting level 8, but when I did it at level 6 on day 2 of the beta it took ages.

Have you done the first mission the game drops you into and (not sure that's even necessary), did you hit level 6 and did you do the little introduction in the Tower (go see your boss, go see your gunmaker, go see the shipwright, alright you're done thing)?

If you didn't do any of those things then do them. If you did, maybe restart your PS4?

If that doesn't help, light a black candle and pray.

Should be available while in Orbit. You set it as your destination.

Damn I wish I could write up some better impressions but I hate typing on my phone. THIS GAME IS AMAZING!!!! The guns havr that tight ass Halo 3 feel to them. I think im going to keep playing this for as long as I can till I fall asleep haha.

If anybody from the US wants to team up, for legendary strikes or pvp send my US account an invite. It's AmerikaSEN as the psn id.

Did you go to the Tower yet and do the main the mission?

Don't even attempt the strike unless you are level 6.
