The PS Vita version of Dungeon Travelers 2: The Royal Library and Mamono’s Seal will launch on September 25 in Japan. The Aquaplus-published, Sting-developed dungeon RPG first launched for PSP in March 2013.

The standard edition will cost 5,800 yen. Pre-orders include a Vita protection sheet and wallpaper. An 8,200 yen premium edition including a special-make acrylic stand, microfiber cloth, and PS Vita pouch will also be available

Really is a fantastic dungeon crawler, though be warned its fanservice filled. The characters are excellent and its got a pretty good voice cast too. The chatter they do at times in the dungeon while a bit random / doesnt seem to match up, it still gives the party members character.

By far this is one of my top wizardry type of titles in design and challenge. Really is enjoyable and once again great cast of characters and thats regardless of the fanservice nature of the game itself. But those who can get around that will have quite a challenging dungeon crawler on their hands.

Gonna go all in with the Premium version just like the PSP one. Seems to not be up for preorder yet though.

Kayano Ai fans buy this game, she does the voice of Alisia Heart, best character in the game <3

A bit redundant, ne?

I'm still feeling a little burnt by Demon Gaze and the overly simplistic dungeon designs that persisted through that entire game. Are the dungeons in this game actually challenging, or is it challenging more from a combat mechanics perspective?

Both the dungeons are pretty complex and the combat is difficult including the boss fights. The thing is though, since all of the characters are pre-set asides from selecting what class change paths they go down it makes for a little different of an experience.

Loot hunting is always amusing too as to get the better equipment you need to find it in the dungeons. The shop becomes useless cept for identifying things, (if you dont have the skill to do it yourself) or buying healing / status recovery items.

Overall its a pretty complete package as a dungeon crawler.

Am sure the game will look real nice with the graphical upgrade making things more crisp. Im still playing the PSP one actually on and off and really cant wait for the Vita version.

Demon Gaze is more "dungeon crawler" light and not really all that difficult of a game overall in comparison to the other titles out there. Its more a few of the boss battles were hard, but thats about it. The dungeons themselves were not really all that threatening and outside of a few specific mobs the standard enemies were easy to roflstomp.

Stranger of Sword City on the other hand is a lot better. Do hope that the difficulty will be upped for Operation Abyss too.

Anyways back to the topic, the guys at Sting who were behind the development do love Wizardry games as they seemed to have hit a lot of the right notes with the design. Plus since its an original story too you dont need to know who the characters are like the first game which used the To Heart 2 characters.

Thanks. Looks like I'm in.

Im looking forward to the special dungeon too :D Wont say why, but am sure folks will be amused when they get there.

Music is pretty good also. If you dont mind the fan service stuff I promise you, that you should have a fairly good time.

The only hard thing is not screwing up your characters initially with how you allocate the skills and spend skill points, since when you class change you might want to save some points for the new set of skills. Or you can class change into something that all of your old weapon skills for examples are useless as it uses a different weapon set lol.

There is a level reset which will take you back down, but its broken up in intervals so if you got far too past it said point, gets a little harder to want to reset 6 levels for example.

Game has a lot of skills too which makes it hard.

Class change tree is generally like this. Also you keep any skills from the previous class. Though if you can still use them is a different story as the point mentioned above.

You sold the game well OP, but I just Google imaged the fan service and for that reason I'm out.

Yeah that will be the largest hurdle for folks, since its pretty heavy. Heavier than Demon Gaze that is. Esp considering most of the monsters are "female" monsters.

Initially I thought the same thing too when I bought into the first series, but from the standpoint of a hardcore wizardry / wizardry-type of game fan its one of the better hybrids out there. So in some ways its unfortunate that the dev teams talents wont be seen by a large audience considering. :/

But generally thats what the game seems to be geared towards is those that like "character" games. But this is one of the rare cases where the game system is actually pretty damned good and does the genre justice in its own ways. While it does not follow the 100% strict Wizardry formula, it does a lot of things on its own quite well.

I'm in, as soon as it get released in the west.

Still looking for a good Etrian/Wizardry game on my Vita :(

Im sure you will enjoy Stranger of Sword City when the vita ver comes out, thats if it gets localized. But am sure it will eventually. Just that Id imagine Exp Inc. Is working on TNWR: Operation Abyss and CB Infinity Unlimited for localized titles. At least Id like to think thats what their battle plan is currently.

You sold me the game OP.

I don't have any problem with fan service because I don't care, the only problem I have is playing when someone is around. If someone saw me during a fan service cutscene I wouldn't be able to explain what I'm doing

Just from that image, the classes seem a little ridiculous. In a good way.

You mentioned the characters are premade. I assume that means there is a focus on narrative. How is that?

hahaha i usually play stuff before sleeping which generally ends with me falling asleep with the damned thing on. D:

the trains are too crowded anyways on the way to work to be playing during the commute. D:

This game is seriously in my top 5 list for Wizardry type titles.

Its actually very good and the character personalities are varied. You really do wind up liking the cast and the voice work is superb. Really gives you an attachment to the characters in your party. Plus with how the class change system works you will kinda be tempted to level up everyone just to see what classes they become. Though one thing I noticed is that the levels seem to be kinda different from character to character for what the req is for the 1st and 2nd class change. Im guessing its due to when you meet said character in the game thats why.

The classes are pretty unique and a bit away from the standard preset categories that we are all used to. The way some skills work too is "interesting" with the more unique classes. Such as the スピエラー which has a lot of odd skills. The maid as linked in the picture had posted is an excellent support class as can recover TP in battle using 料理 (cooking) skill. Also it has passive skills that gives back HP / TP after a battle. Seriously is a must for the party at least 1 since otherwise with how long some of the dungeons are you wont make it through just off of trying to conserve TP alone. Then the maid can go into the dancer or bard tree which works like the following. bard is generally for party buffs and the dancer works doing debuffs to the enemy. Its quite interesting. Went the bard tree since there is an EXP up song that I use pretty much every battle.

I don't care if it has fanservice, if it's a good game then I'm in.

I saw some videos and it looks okay, I'm interested.

Heres my OT on the game, got tons of gameplay footage in there that I had recorded so should give you a pretty good idea of what to expect. It really is fantastic and shows what Exp is truthfully known for and not the more fanservice type of direction demon gaze went, which there isnt anything wrong with as it brought them a TON of new fans. :)

Awesome! Still a relatively uncharted genre on the Vita, and we need moar moar moar of it.

It really is good to see more companies supporting the genre on the Vita that and Exp Inc a personal favorite of mine its becoming their main go to platform for development asides from PC.

Considering how the PSP was a home for the genre am sure more devs will make the move over since the PSP is now officially out of production here in Japan.

I wasn't sure about the game from your OP, but I just Google imaged the fan service and for that reason I'm in!

Joke aside, I hope the game will be better than Demon Gaze. I was kind of disappointed with that game overall.

That's very good, though it's a shame that being an Aquaplus game, it doesn't stand a chance for localization.

Actually I think now how the genre has become more prominent in the West, there is a good chance for localization on top of it being a Vita title too. Since the original title had no touch controls, nor would they be necessary I would imagine it will be compat with the PSV TV also.

Though the difficult part is some of the sections where voices can be heard but there is no room for subtitles means that would a company want to dub it or just leave it as is? One example is in battle with the characters. In the dungeon when the characters say things at random those at least have speech bubbles where text can be inputted. But in battle there is no room for that, nor was it coded in as a feature.

Its a whole 'nother beast truthfully, as this game is really well made as an overall package. I will give you my word on that. Had posted this earlier, but listen to this track. Imagine fighting a boss while this plays, if this doesnt get your blood flowing Im going to have to check for a pulse lol.

Yep no problem enjoy! Ive been busy with getting back from the US so have not had the chance to record any new footage unfortunately. D: But those initial 9 vids in there should keep you busy for a while as the length on them is pretty long.

Dungeons and fan-service, sure, why not?

Well, if it gets an English release that is, I've already enough dungeons to dive in right now to start hitting the import scene.

Parakeetman's DRPG seal of approval = instant buy if localized.

I would hope that NISA grabs the title, since they always do an excellent job if it has to be dubbed thats why. Which "might" happen depending for the reasons explained in a previous post.

Even if its not, still imagine the type of LE they would do. :D Plus seeing how they have started to wander into the genre on the Vita with demon gaze, would be interesting for them to increase their library with the genre a bit.

I got my official poster somewhere in the apartment still rolled up. Its too bad I dont have anywhere to put it though. D:

There is no chance in hell that this gets localized folks.

Just buy import.

I dont know about that considering things like Senran Kagura, Conception, Moero Chronicle and whatnots got localized there is obviously some sort of trend going on that these types of titles sell, so one of the big 3 might grab it. NISA, Xseed, Arksys. Dont think Atlus esp now that they are under the penny pinching sega.

My backlog is too vicious to consider importing.
But I'll gladly prioritize and support any publisher that releases a DRPG in the West.

There are still brand new copies of the sealed edition of the psp game. YOU KNOW YOU WANT IT.

Jokes aside am looking forward to seeing what the Vita LE will look like.

Haha no way.
One of the benefits of being a Vita owner is that the game cases are very small, and thus very easy to hide.

Several years back I came into possession of this monstrosity and I still haven't got up the nerve to go to whoever's house I left it at and ask for it.

(even though by today's standards it's really quite tame)

Man that was such a great fighting game. D: I wish I still had my copy of the PS1 game. I think it was the 2nd one I had.

You want to talk large oversized boxes thats the kagero (deception) game for the PS3. What a waste of space that thing is. D:

You guys have to think about the companies behind the games, not the actual games. Senran Kagura was a MAQL game, XSEED is owned by them. Monster Monpiece was a IF game, IF Int made a western branch to take care of games like that. This is Aquaplus, we barely get games from it in the West, let alone ones with heavy fanservice. If we didn't get games like Tears to Tiara on the PS3, that made much more sense up until now, chances for this are very slim. Atlus has a relationship with Aquaplus, but that's about it and only Aquapazza came out of that.

Yeah it's some of the heaviest I've ever seen. I thought it would be Dragon's Crown level but it's a different league. It's a shame because it sounds cool gameplay-wise.

Im curious if they will be adding any extra content to get folks who originally purchased the psp one to double dip.

Really hope that at least they will add more dungeons, granted the game has enough as is, but something extra would be nice.

This game is incredibly good, I bought it expecting something terrible and it shut my mouth in return.

Was not sure what to expect with the first game but looked around that it was highly rated as a Wizardry type of title which got me to pick it up. Been a fan of the series ever since.

I wonder why western devs don't capitalize on this "fanservice dungeon crawler" trend and make one with girls that look like Penthouse Pets and dudes wearing a thong and smile or something. Get Robaato or Ed Benes or Boris Vallejo on that shit

as a major Ai Kayano fan this is bought if it comes here.

Last chance though. Last dungeon crawler I'll buy on Vita if it's actually crap despite overwhelming praise. I just die inside playing Demon Gaze; too boring imo.

Unfortunately, the game looks a bit too fanservicey for my taste, but I always have to give respect to games that have this sort of class advancement. I loved it in FE8, and I'm baffled why more RPGs don't use this flexible system.

Stealth edit: Translation:
Maid -> Bard -> Diva or Mistress
Maid -> Dancer -> Star or Mistress

lol these class names...

Really like how you get to keep the previous skills and whatnot too if they still work with the new class you switched to. But man I swear takes me a while to decide what to put points into and being all Scrooge Mc Duck with the points too, since for the most part its just 1 per level. Skills go up in cost when you level them up too. At the same time if you over level some skills the TP usage becomes too high for what it does, so there is that to think about too. D: lol
