Agreed. Anyone who thinks otherwise, thinks a character like Mewtwo is returning outside of maybe DLC, is going to be severely dissapointed.

47 is our final roster. I was dissapointed, but I'm mosly fine now, except for Chrom. My Female FE Rep T_T

Tho I could see them cutting Jigglypuff for Mewtwo. I don't think they will, but considering Ness was considered to be cut before Lucas was cut means that the "Original Roster" doesn't mean that they are a shoo-in.

I can't believe people still believe that theres more than 47 characters. Its amusing. Watever floats your boat I guess.
I'm just assuming 48 since nobody ever really gave me a real reason why that Mario Kart 8 guy's claim we're getting 48 characters with 4 cut vets (Ivy/Squirtle/Lucas + someone else) was wrong.

Hardly matters if we're getting DLC though, I'm fine with the way the default game's roster is shaping up beyond Snake potentially being gone and no new Metroid/DKC rep.

Pic of the day. Here are some weapons the Mii Swordfighter can use: Shurikens of Light, Chakrams, and Gale Strikes. You can control the direction the Chakram is thrown, or even make it stall in midair. The Chakram is also the only one of these tied to the side special move, so you can use one of the other items consecutively with this one.

Wonder if all three of the Starfox characters will make it, and if it'll be the same three.

I could happily lose one of Wolf or Falco for another Starfox character. A tech-focused Slippy with traps and stuff or - and I know this won't be popular to say - Krystal. I'm not a huge fan of her character, but I've always felt like she'd make a good Smash character - give her the staff and some of the magical powers from Starfox Adventures, and combine it with some of the techy Starfox stuff. Sort of Zelda + Fox with some of the long-range-melee ability of somebody like Link.

If nothing else I hope they actually differentiate out Wolf some more.

So if it's 47 the remaining guys would be:
Chrom
Shulk
Chorus Men
Wario
Gannon
Mr Game and Watch
Ness
Falco
Wolf
Cpt Falcon
Ice Climbers
Jiggly Puff
Meta Knight
ROB
right??

DLC characters notwithstanding.

falco i think is pretty much a guarantee. hes been in 2 games now, so i really doubt hes cut from the roster

I refuse to believe that Lucas, of all veterans, would be cut. I just can't fathom how anyone on the SSB team could look at the Brawl roster and say "Hmm, so you know who shouldn't make it into the next roster? Lucas. But Toon Link is okay. And three Star Fox characters is absolutely perfect. But no Lucas, no one likes him."

Also I still really, really think that Mewtwo
and Ridley
has to be in, so I can't take Gematsu as 100% for certain because of that.

Sal Romano has a great track record so far, but does anyone else think it's odd they'd ditch Lucas when the majority of Mother's representation in Brawl came from his game?

Mother 2 on Wii U is the most recently released game, so...

I buy that there will probably be 47 character slots but have we considered that Mii Fighters might a side tab or something since they're a special case? That could mean that there's one more newcomer or one less cut veteran. Guess we'll know in ~3 months for sure. Imagine how crazy things would be here if Lucas was revealed before then.

I agree with you so much. I really don't want to believe that's the case.

I believe the leak, however, has it ever been explicitly stated that those are all the remaining newcomers? He did miss Rosalina, meaning the leak could just be what he knows or wants to share.

Am I the only one who thinks Shulk's inclusion is a bit weird? I don't dislike the character or anything. I thought Xenoblade was very good, just I've played tons of jrpgs and the characters and story didn't really grab me. The other third party characters are legends: Snake, Sonic, Pac-Man - they've decades and tons of games under their belts. Shulk just had 1 good recent jrpg yet he gets in?

What can Shulk even do gameplay-wise to make himself unique? It's been a long time, but I remember his sword gets big for some reason and there's stuff with robots (I think).

From what I recall, Mother 3 wasn't really well received in Japan (compared to the original). Since it was a Japan exclusive game that's nowhere near as popular as its predecessor, I can see why Lucas might get tossed aside.

Monolith Soft is owned by Nintendo though, Shulk wouldn't count as a third party character. Plus it wouldn't be the first time a fellow appears with only one game to their name...or none, actually (Roy's our boy!)

He's first party. And... as far as Xenoblade goes, it's a genre that Nintendo hasn't had tons of success with in recent years, so it's sort of good to celebrate that fact.

Palutena?

Ah, yeah, true. You could still do more with Krystal than you can with yet another Fox clone, mind.

Ladies and Gentleman, we have people of color in our Nintendo!

It's a joke, calm your tits.

Miis are getting more violent each day

As stated, he's a Nintendo character.

In terms of his moveset, the Monado could be very unique, as it's not just a normal sword. My memory is a bit foggy, but it can have heaps of different effects attached to it, leaving room for a lot of potential if they decide to take him down that path.

Also, hopefully it puts Xenoblade on the map for non-hardcore gamers (for lack of a better term). Considering Monolith is owned by Nintendo and they seem to be continuing the Xenoblade series, it will only be a good thing to bring it into the greater conscious.

Do you guys feel that the application of Miis in SSB4 represent the Miis well?

I'm not 100% sure, but the suits of the Mii Shooters (sorry, no clue of their true name!) look very similar to the ones in Nintendo Land's Metroid Blast. I'm guessing this has been discussed before though haha.

In any case, I think Sakurai was going for Miis as customizable characters rather than representation of the Wii _ line of games.

Look on the bright side, Lucas fans: if he is cut and there IS DLC, he'll most likely be a likely candidate.

Unlike Snake :(

If there is DLC, I'd expect the first port of call to be updates of anybody from Brawl/Melee whose movesets and models they can merely port and update.

They can apply Snake's moves to somebody else.

He can have a reflector, alter time in his vicinity, give himself a speed boost, and extend the Monado. That's off the top of my head.

Toon Link has been in way more games than Lucas, so have Falco and Wolf. It's pretty easy to understand why Lucas would be low priority in my opinion. Not only was Lucas only in one game (A Japan-only game might I add), why have two characters that represent the same aspect of the Mother series (Stripe shirted, psychic kid protagonist) rather than a more unique character like Paula or Porky? It doesn't help that they share special moves in Brawl.

I can't imagine Lucas getting cut if Ike made it back.
I don't get this logic, Ike has been a primary protagonist in 2 games (Which is more than most FE characters might I add), and they were both released in NA & Japan. Lucas, like I said previously, was in 1 Japan-only game. Ike is more deserving than Lucas and he's a more unique fighter.

Looking into this a bit more (to refresh my memory)

"Buster: powerful attack with a larger blade. Deals double the damage to Mechon and Machina.
Enchant: strengthens the weapons of the party. Allows normal weapons to damage Mechon.
Shield: generates a barrier that protects the party from enemy talent arts of the same level or lower.
Speed: gives the target a greater chance to dodge physical attacks.
Purge: ranged ether blast that inflicts Aura Seal and nullifies Spike effects.
Armour: reduces physical and ether damage taken. Percentage (30%-75%) depends on this Art's level.
Cyclone: damages all enemies around the user and inflicts topple on enemies suffering from break.
Eater: strips away enemy buffs and causes bleed damage in a frontal cone. "

Obviously not all of these are applicable, but I can definitely imagine some of them being viable and interesting moves in Smash, and would certainly make Shulk a unique character.

Miis are really exciting. I hope there's a good amount of effort put into balancing them so that they can be used in tournament play. They're the only facet of character customization in this game that I'm actually interested in, haha.

So guys, Mii Fighters aren't allowed in online battles with randoms because they want to avoid bullying and insensitive imagery. But what's to stop people from uploading Miiverse screens of, say, religious figures, racial battles, etc? Will the Miiverse moderators be fighting a losing battle?

Sword Fighter Miis!

Xena
Quorra
TRON
Flynn

Unlocking Mii costume pieces will be fun

Mii Swordfighters lookin' badass.

This has always confused the shit out of me.

I mean...yeah, I kinda get it from a Star Wars-esque perspective where the wait would never fulfill the hype and the whole different style of tone/setting and whatnot, but given the game's intricate themes and how they connect to the previous titles (particularly Earthbound), they more than anyone else should get it.

Even if I personally didnt think it was necessary, I feel Sakurai went above and beyond for the Miis. In some cases where Miis are added to a game, their abilities and appearance are transformed to fit whatever game they find themselves in, so it's a perfect idea to turn them into fighters for Smash. I was under the impression the Miis would turn out to be a Villager-like avatar with a variety of attacks but this is a better way to implement them.

Pretty interesting. Stalling in mid-air? wat? lol. I'm still not totally hyped for them but they will grow on me eventually. I mean I can kick Mario's ass now so that's something to look forward to.

Because fans are always completely reasonable critics.

Please, it's pretty apparent that Sakurai doesn't care about things like that. If he wants a character in or out, there are more important things he takes into account. Little Mac was in many games compared to other characters(+ he's a nintendo classic) but he was just added. Ice Climbers were in just one game. Pit was in two.

They just need to fix him and make him different than Ness. As I said before, Wii U easily supports (free) DLC. It would be a shame not having Lucas at all.
