PS Vita TV coming to West as Playstation TV, $99

did they email you a code?

the code is one use. My code is different than the one posted. Also, the deal is only for those who purchased a PS4 from Amazon.
Did not get an email and I bought a launch PS4. I hope I get one soon, otherwise angry email to Amazon...

It has an ethernet port ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Well it also has the same wifi card as the Vita 1000. RemotePlay works great via ad-hoc (connects directly to PS4) if you are in the same room or in a modern house with drywall and not plaster walls. Internet Wi-Fi works fairly well if you have a good upload speed at home, but for me local Wi-Fi RemotePlay stinks whenever someone else is using a device on Wi-Fi, even just browsing the web. 2.4ghz Wireless-N is barely enough by itself for 960x540. Without being wired locally I can't see how 1280x720 RemotePlay could work.

I want some impressions on how well this thing will work as a theoretical second console in my house. I guess it will be similar to remote play

Games that require touch will most likely never work unless someone adds in alternate controls.

Blimey, that is going to result in a lot of non-compatible games then.

That's a major hiccup for me. I was really looking forward to streaming a few Vita games and Uncharted and Gravity Rush were top of my list.

Given that they're patching KZ:Mercenary to work with a controller, they may do the same with Gravity Rush (which only has a couple of things that use the touch screen that could easily be remapped to other buttons) and Uncharted (which would arguably be massively improved by the removal of the touch gimmicks.)

I hope that patch for Mercenary is out by the time the PSTV is released. It is the only Vita game I can see myself playing on the PSTV. Otherwise it would just be PSP, PSOne, Netflix, and RemotePlay.

Though, I can see DualShock 4 users having a big advantage over those playing directly on the Vita.

So based on what you guys are saying, is this note on kotaku about being able to play some touch screen focused games wrong because it seems pretty specific.

4) It Can Play Games That Require the Touch Screen

The thing I most worried about when buying a Vita TV was that it doesn't have a touch screen. As most games on the Vita use the touch screen in one form or another, I was dreading the idea that all those games would be rendered unplayable. However, that is not the case.

The games that require touch controls are able to use Vita TV’s virtual touch screen—though many have to be patched to do so (with a patch you are automatically told to download before you play). Then, after turning on the virtual touch screen in the Vita TV’s options menu, pressing R3 or L3 turns the thumbsticks into mouse pointers which you can use to “touch” the screen (much like how the pointers work in Dragon’s Crown on the PS3). Pressing R3 gives you two pointers for the front panel, L3 gives two for the back, and both R3 and L3 at the same time gives you two cursors pressing front and back at the same time.

Granted of course a patch is necessary, but based on this isn't it possible, though unlikely, that there could be a patch that makes Golden Abyss and the like compatible in the future?

For Gravity Daze in particular I wonder if there is a way to substitute the gyroscope with the Sixaxis within the DS3.

These are all just wishes at this point anyway,

Some touch controls could be mapped to DS4's touchpad.

That is actually a very, very good point.

Could they not simply make the DS4 compatible with Vita TV and problem solved?

Mind you, there are still those awful 'hold the vita up to the light' sections...

Also couldn't the PlayStation Eye (ps3 ver.) be used in some way to play games like Tearaway?

The DualShock 4 does not have both sides of a touch screen. Then there's how compatible the gyro is.

Games need to be patched to support either the virtual touch screen using the DS3, or patched to support DS4, or patched to remove touch screen necessity. Really seems to just be on a game-by-game patch-by-patch basis.

The DS4 is compatible with the PS Vita TV. How else would PS4 games be streamable to it?

You still need the game to be patched. If the developer has already moved on, then it's unlikely to see anything.

Does this have full access to PSN games as well?

It should theoretically work with any PS1/PSP games, but I'm not sure what the situation is with the US is and the strange transferring restrictions they have. After Sony fixed the glitch, I'm not sure what the situation is.

Only works if you bought a PS4.
Nope. It's a one time use code. It can be given away too. Codes were different. Mine started with 5B84...

It was given to people that (apparently) got a PS4.

"Apparently" because I got a code and I got my PS4 from Gamestop during launch weekend. :p ...I did had one preordered on Amazon but cancelled it.

Word?

I guess that makes sense.

Will edit my post, if you don't mind could you kill the quote so people don't mistakenly try to use the code?

Done. :( was hoping for this to be in the 60-80 dollar range. 100 is just outside what I value this at, considering I already have a Vita.

I have been using my Vita TV often, since I realized how to remote play with my US account.

I have downloaded the free version of the psp remake of Oreshika, and it looks fine. The Vita TV does not offer the Bilinear Filtering options, maybe it is always on by default?

Yup I want one. As long as PS4 streaming works well. I look forward to checking out some of the classic RPG's I never played on PS1 let alone all the great ones out for psp.

This has probably been answered at some point, but will this support physical Vita games? I know the Japan model did, but the rebranding of it for the west and the pictures I've seen make it look like that feature has been cut. Nearly all of mine are physical, and it would be a real deal breaker if I couldn't play those.

EDIT: Apparently I missed the announcement video. It clearly shows a slot for physical Vita games. YESSSSSSSS, I'm buying this day one.

This is..interesting. Not sure it'd be practical wi any games needing fast reactions - eg a touch screen grenade button or something, but it's a start.

I think you could adapt that to the DS4 touch pad for better results. Put your finger anywhere on the touchpad for a cursor on the vita front screen, click to press. Hold down eg L2 as a modifier to do the same for rear touch.

I actually liked gyro aiming, charcoal rubbing and touch screen grenade throwing :(

Gravity Rush relies on gyros, but you can move the camera while flying with the right stick. They can just put evade on the circle button and throwing stuff on L2/R2.

dual shocks have gyros

Anyone have any experience with the Asian hardware (Vita TV)? I was trying to get some info on how party chat will be handled and the only thing I can find is that you can use Bluetooth headsets for chat. Does anyone know if wired headsets are compatible when using a DS4 like how it's used on the PS4?
