This was my only real complaint that's more than just nitpicking. It's annoying and time consuming and, especially the first time as I didn't know it was going to happen, I thought something was wrong.

Additionally, the invite comes through PSN, which makes it even weirder. I guess it prevents spamming people, a little, in game, but still.

Well, I'd complain about PvP, too, but since we were only level 8 I decided to hold off there as endgame PvP is all that really matters.

Enter the code at Bungie.net and you'll be able to choose which console you want to participate in the Beta with shortly before the beta begins. That's what they've said anyhow.
 
So since this thread is pretty active I want to ask this here: does anyone think that being online only will affect sales of Destiny? Also for the 360, PS4 and Xbox One, it seems like Gold or PS+ will be required. Will either thing have any affect?

In the alpha it only said strike and crucible required ps plus. Story and Explore could be played without a sub I presume.

I don't think Mercury and Europa will be part of Destiny 1. My guess is they will appear in an expansion or Destiny 2. Saturn was also mentioned in the first vidoc.

Live will be necessary for both Xbox platforms and Gold presumably only on PS4, since PS3 has no online restrictions.

I don't think it will negatively affect sales in a great way. Probably just a slight hindrance.

I am partly disappointed how there is no good resource to track all know info.

Wikia page is heavily based on presumptions and doubtful sources and I think many would welcome seriously coherent database for everything.

I do not doubt that Bungie will offer something like that on the main site in September, but it would be amazing if some community would take its time and make a comprehensive overview of everything that is known so far.

For instance, Grimore Cards Database would be amazing start - we all got hundreds of them and there should be sone place that could collect them all from all players (submitted as screenshots for example), so we can all discover as much as we would like.

Yeah, drought is real.

In last year's E3 trailer we see a shot of a ship arriving at a planet that can only be Mercury, and somewhere, I don't remember where, there is a shot of a guardian in a snow-covered environment.
Edit: Mercury was mentioned in this year's E3 trailer, and we have those Europa concept arts from last year.
 
Most of the Grimoire cards simply said "redacted" on them, and had no info. There was a youtube vid awhile back that covered most if not all of the then-known info. It was about 30 minutes long though and obviously doesn't have any of the more recent info of the last few months.

I had no idea the alpha was ending so soon. I played for a couple of hours one night while on the phone with a friend and wasn't paying much attention. I barely did anything! Most of the time I was on the start menu.

Well, at least it is less than a month until the beta. I did like the way the game felt, but I barely scratched the surface.

I found him when I was a level 4 or 5...too early.

Couldn't find him at level 8 I would of owned him.

Did you take them out?
 
Skipped the alpha so I could go into the beta fresh but reading the threads on GAF has been fantastic, the comments from people on how it turned their feelings on the game around make me wish it was September already.

I would only assume that this is the Destiny equivalent of "raids" that'll allow six players to go through a dungeon of sorts. That's the only type that wasn't available in the alpha, but mentioned in Jason Jones' video, as far as I know.

This! I can't wait till some footage is shown my hopes are high for a ViDoc of some sort or anything really at this point. I have heard murmurs of the content being multiple hours worth of play.
 
Man, last pages of the impressions thread make Destiny look like a popular MMO with a 10 year history that was just closed down forever :) So much feels.
And it was just an alpha. I miss my hunter already...
 
Ok, I definitely can't deal with this...

I want to go back to Old Russia and explore the areas some more and try and go a bit further into the ??-level territory, I want to find some more awesome gear, I want to do the Devil's Lair on Legend one more time, I want to play some more matches in the Crucible with the shotgun I had just found, I want to dance some more in the Tower and buy a new ship, I want to go explore some more to see if I can find more dead Ghosts or loot chests, I want to participate in one of those random events one last time, I want to return to my Titan again to play with him some more, I want to stare at the Traveller from the Tower again, I want to take some more screenshots, etc.

I just want to get back in and never have it end. ;-(

I didn't even know what to do with myself last night. If the wait for the beta doesn't kill me, the wait for the full game will.
 
Great games playing the Alpha. Will be posting the Destiny OT (beta version) before we go into full scale beta mode. Nearly there!

You can do whatever the fuck you want. There are story missions, raids, free roam (with generic 'kill X enemies, gather Y stuff' missions), PvP... You're not forced to do any one of them (well, you do need to be of a certain level to do PvP, just to make sure you know the basic playing mechanics). You can gain XP and loot by playing PvP only, or Free Roam only, for instance.

You can select to either go on story missions, strike missions, or exploration mode which just drops you on the planet, letting you explore freely. While there you can get random missions from beacons spread throughout the surface, they are generally fairly simple kill quests or fetch quests, but occasionally it will take you through to some pretty cool places. There isn't a whole lot of incentive to explore at this point aside from seeing more of the world (and perhaps the random optional world events), but I had a blast just running around checking everything out and killing everything in my path.

The area in the alpha was huge so it's looking like there will be plenty to explore in the final release.

Destiny seems to have really good netcode unlike for example FFXIV.

You cleared Titan EX, this is a dream by comparison in terms of server infrastructure and netcode.
