Kruse would/could play the lone striker when Cahill hangs up the boots. He suits ange potegoglus (the managers) style better than Cahill (technically better with his feet and much much quicker. He plays in the budesliga and is only 24odd).

Also have taggert who came on for Cahill. He is 20 but lead the scoring for the a-league this year and will be in Europe soon.

Yes for sure, Kruse has come a long way from when he was first playing for Brisbane. I didn't think he was going to turn out being as good as he has. Taggart was really impressive for Newcastle this year too.

Wait really? Why?

Because they push their bodies to the limit. A lot of them play through pain.

According to German commentators he had the lowest walking distance and the least ball contact of all players on the field (15 contacts in the first half) during the majority of the game, so it might mean something after all. He's not fit and it seems to show.

He's for sure not 100% fit. The only treatment that exists for what he has is rest. He needs to give his knee a break. La Liga + CL + WC is intense.

Oh if only Australia were drawn in a shit tier group.

We'd probably already have 2 wins. :(

I'd caution against too much optimism for these guys as they're clearly rebuilding the team coming down from a previously fairly good talent pool to something that's much emptier, and Ange's still fairly new to the role and is just starting to make his culture work in the national team, of which we'd get a better sense of his progress in next year's Asian Cup as well as the next Asia World Cup Qualifiers.

That said, talking about groups, despite the skill and experience differential between the teams I'd put money on this Australia 2014 WC side to spank the Australia 2010 WC side quite easily and make it out of that group (Ghana/Germany/Serbia).

Also three other things:
- Tim Cahill's always been a Jekyll and Hyde character whom I'll nonetheless sorely miss
- That was such a soft penalty call though I can understand why it was given, and
- The growing number of players which have originated from or are currently playing in the A-League speaks volumes of the quality of that competition and how far it has come.

I do think Kruse plays his best football as a right midfielder like he's been doing in Germany, but he's also a natural goalscorer and could work well as a striker.

Taggart also has plenty of promise for a 20 year old.
