So that's "Series 1." It's been said in interviews the plan is to release an Amiibo for every fighter on the roster. In that case, assuming each series has about 14-15 fighters, who do you think will be in "Series 2?"

Maybe we'll see:

- Rosalina & Luma
- Bowser
- Luigi
- Ike
- Diddy Kong
- Toon Link
- Sheik
- ZSS
- Lucario
- Charizard
- Greninja
- Little Mac
- Palutena
- King Dedede
- Pikmin & Olimar

I think they might make us wait for the third-party reps.

It might also be they haven't shown Series 2 yet because unannounced vets or newcomers like Chrom, Shulk and Chorus Men could be mixed in.

I've accepted it for the most part. What I can't accept is why Sakurai won't just show him as the Pyrosphere boss already. Enough teasing already!

As far as I am concerned no one can prove or disprove he is or isn't a stage hazard, boss, or playable character.

He's been put in such a position that only Sakurai can tell us what is going on with him. We should know by September.

Since I didn't have a Wii U, I wasn't excited for this game, and I'm a HUGE smash fan (got all trophies in Melee, including that stupid Diskun guy) and unlocked every character in brawl in 1 day.

Well, I have a Wii U now. I am beyond excited to get this game now!

You can say that about every single aspect of the game that wasn't explicitly confirmed though. All evidence points to him being a stage hazard.

Edit: Come to think of it, I wonder how long something can be out and playable before talking about the plot twist/characters in it is no longer considered worthwhile hiding behind spoilers. People seem pretty open about Lucina's secret but the identity of '7' is a closely guarded one even to this day :o

To be fair, the only thing making a secret about Lucina's identity was the marketing, that tried to make it seem like Masked Marth was Marth. In the game itself, as soon as masked Marth introduces himself, everyone goes "Ah, so you're named after the famous hero!". The only thing that identity does is hiding her backstory,

What I don't understand is, if Amiibo's are for use in multiple games, why are they Smash specific ones?
Like why is it the Smash render of Mario rather than some generic Mario? And why buy a character like Wii Fit Trainer that's never going to be usable in any other game?

I just want him confirmed/deconfirmed already ):

Just accept that he's not.

These two posts are funny. Sakurai deconfirmed him for you to get the disappointment out of the way without completely spoiling how the stage boss works, and yet you're in denial over it.

I just don't understand it. Sakurai must know in the west Ridley is easily one of the most wanted new comers. He seems like the kind of guy that wouldn't want to disappoint the fans. Why wouldn't he put an end to the whole Ridley thing instead of having disappointed people right at the time of release?

You know, I didn't think about it before, but I guess Amiibos are a decent reason to believe there won't be unlockables. It's not like Brawl where Sakurai hid all of the newcomers behind question marks, you're gonna notice if you see a Chrom figuring for sale in the store lol

To build suspense to either achieve massive hype or massive disappointment.

You can say that about every single aspect of the game that wasn't explicitly confirmed though. All evidence points to him being a stage hazard.

A flip flop shadow doesn't mean much to me honestly.

I don't actually think Ridley is all that requested outside of a few places like GAF and such.

Who knows, maybe he's in, maybe he isn't. There's either a ton of rules we don't know about or no rules whatsoever when it comes to how the team picks characters.

The figures shown are the only ones that will be out at release. The rest will come later. So no figure spoilers.

Reducing it all to just a shadow is ridiculous. There's tons of other information that's pointing to Ridley being a boss character, or at the very least not playable.

It's still a spoiler right? Like if you get a WiiU for your birthday in January and go to the store to buy the game, and then see a wall of figurines for hidden characters... That's spoiled. Compare that to the Dojo, which I think still has all of those characters hidden.

So Toon Link was therefore deconfirmed, but some magical force made it so toon link could still fight, i wonder what it was...

Ridley has never actually been deconfirmed.

Maybe the unlockable characters will be in Series 2, Series 3, etc., which might come out after the game's been available for a while?

Me personally, I know it's series tradition, but I'd rather have all the characters available from the start and known beforehand.

In interviews, Nintendo has said that a Smash Amiibo of Mario could be used in, say, Mario Kart 8 or other Amiibo-compatible games featuring Mario... But the Smash Mario Amiibo won't be able to do everything a dedicated Mario Kart Amiibo could do.

Until Sakurai tells me straight up I will remain unconvinced. Shadows and text aren't indicative of much.

Well from what I understand of what they explained, basically each amiibo has two blocks of memory, the first one is used to identify the character that the figure belongs to, and that one can be used for any game that can recognize the figures, the other half is game specific and it is used to store data from that game, I think only the second half can be modified. Every game that needs to store data in a figure presumably will have it's own Amiibo figures for that.

You're still being close minded. And like I said, that's fine, but you can say the same thing about pretty much every other unconfirmed character. Hell, you could even say the same thing about characters like Wonder Red and Starfy. It's just sort of silly.

RE: Ridley: I can see it going both ways, just like with Snake (who on a separate note, is different from Squirtle and Ivysaur in that he's not broken off another character). In Ridley's case, the shadow seems like a perfect setup for a Toon Link-style twist.

However, I am more inclined to believe Ridley is not playable. Reason being, if he were in, I think he would've been in the Gematsu leaks by now.

Also, perhaps even someone as creative as Sakurai has limits, and Ridley is simply too difficult for him to implement. But he's still aware of the dragon's popularity, hence the suspenseful buildup here.

Of course you can say the same since in correlation to the other characters they have only been given vague information that is subject to interpretation.

Most things in this topic are sort of silly.

Not the ghosts, the other Namco sprites.
Yeah, the other Namco sprites. In the fruit + Galaga ship one, his hands are up. In the pellet + other Namco sprites one, his hand is out.

Mappy is the mouse, not a ghost lol.

Charizard was broken off from another character, he's still there. Same for sheik and ZSS. If we can't say Snake is most likely cut, we can't say Ivy and Squirtle are either.

You couldn't say the same thing about Starfy. The fuck. Starfy is straight up an AT.
Sakurai hasn't said that Ridley is a stage hazard, hes teased RIdley twice. implying hes a stage hazard? yes. I still feel that Ridley isn't a Stage hazard., and Sakurai's just being a big ol' dick

I'm sorry, has Starfy ever been confirmed to be an AT? If he has, my bad. I'm just thinking of that old picture where he showed up with Pikachu and luma.

Two thoughts on this:

1) Snake was never attached to another character. Snake is not comparable in any way to Pokémon Trainer's Pokémon, or Zelda/Sheik, or Samus/ZSS. Whatever happens with Squirtle or Ivysaur has no bearing whatsoever on Snake's chances. So I don't know why he's ever brought up in comparison to them.

2) Regarding Squirtle and Ivysaur, I'm probably the only person on the board who thinks this, but I think they could still come back. Heck, along with Jigglypuff and even Mewtwo, the Pokémon representatives would still constitute a smaller percentage of the overall roster than they did in Melee or Brawl.

The point is the originally being a part of another character doesn't mean anything at all, it has no known effect on if a character makes it back into the game or not. If anything, all the evidence shows that they'll still make it back (Charizard, Sheik, ZSS). They're comparable to Snake because being broken off of another character doesn't matter. It's like saying Snake isn't comparable to Lucas at all because he has brown hair.

I intend no disrespect when I honestly say I'm not following what you're saying at all. I -think- we're agreeing that we can't tell anything about Snake's chances based on those other characters?

Also, sounds like you think Squirtle and Ivysaur might come back? I think they might, but I'm definitely in the minority there.

Ultimately, I think we will be pleasantly surprised by the final roster. And part of me likes to think that the Gematsu leaks are indicative of nearly no cuts... And maybe no cuts at all... After all, they were debating cutting Lucas, but that doesn't mean they did. And no one else was mentioned as being in jeopardy, which suggests to me that when the roster was being formulated, the goal was to bring everyone back. Which makes sense, in a way, since I remember Sakurai saying during preproduction that they started by porting over the entirety of Brawl.

You picked and arbitrary difference between the two (brown hair, being part of a single character in Brawl) and said the two were incomparable because of it. I don't think Squirtle, Ivysaur, or Snake will be back, they all seem like obvious cuts along with Lucas. But if you want to try to argue that Snake has a good chance of being back, you have to say that Squirtle and Ivysaur will likely be back as well. Every argument for Snake can be made for those two Pokemon.

Sorry, I somehow read that as something else.

I never said anything about hair color.

And I don't see the Pokémon Trainer Pokémon as comparable to Snake. If Squirtle and Ivysaur are cut (and mind you, I'm not necessarily convinced they are), it could be for other reasons such as "too many Pokémon," whereas cutting Snake would be dropping an entire franchise. It could also be a case where Sakurai thinks Squirtle and Ivysaur only worked as supplementary Pokémon alongside Charizard. It might be that he thinks Charizard holds up on his own while the other two only worked as part of a larger whole.

Ivysaur/Squirtle are not a 1:1 situation with Snake. Not at all.
