Official Destiny Alpha Withdrawal Thread

Fair point. My only concern would be if there were only 1 "map" per planet. Like if Old Russia was the only playable area on Earth. I sure hope that is not the case.

I was worrying about the same; however, there were loads of Earth locations they were talking about as playable...

The City, Old Russia, Old Chicago, The Tower, The Wall (city not old russia), Mumbai Push, Black Garden, Twilight Gap, The Overwatch District in The City, The European Dead Zone.

They've got to at least include most of them... or they wouldnt have been talked about.

After watching a newer trailer that had a filter over his voice, it sounded a lot better than it was in the alpha.

Edit- This trailer

First time seeing that. Fantastic trailer. The more info I'm getting on the story the more it's appealing to me.

From that I 100% get the impression that your ghost will play a massive role in the story. It says how it "found you" after century's of looking. I'm guessing it revived you from death somehow.

...Oh and your ghost will die at the end and it's actually the traveler's consciousness in floaty robot form.

This is helping to get me through..

A lot of these locations aren't what people assumed they were when they were announced.

The Overwatch District is on The Tower which is on The Wall. The Twilight Gap is what players overlook when they're standing at the edge of The Overwatch District.

What we haven't yet seen in playable form is The City, Old Chicago, Mumbai Push, Black Garden and The European Deadzone.

I don't get how the Groups or Clans works, I was with the Alpha clan and I still didn't saw a single clan member nor on crucible or exploring or anything lols.

Still Im in in boths groups now.

Groups are basically just places for people to swap ID's and make friends.

Clans give you a specific tag in game but I'm still not 100% sure myself how to "meet up" with fellow gaffers without just swapping IDs.

Yep, it'd be nice if they said something as simple as "Yes there are other areas on Earth you can explore besides Old Russia".

I don't need to know what cities there are, just tell me if there is anything besides Russia on Earth.

Yup this exactly.

So the Twilight Gap will likely be a "map" to explore like Old Russia... is what i'm getting out of it from Bungie. (or i hope)

Twilight Gap:

Little more is known about the nature or characteristics of the Twilight Gap at this time, except that it contains "war-torn fortresses." In news coverage of the Reveal Press Conference, multiple sources stated that it was described as something visible from the Overwatch District. The Twilight Gap was also described as "apparently [representing] a big chunk of mankind’s history in the game."

According to Bungie, humanity first encountered the Cabal at the fortresses of the Twilight Gap.

Via that wiki i linked above.

My speculation is just based on the first encountering of the Cabal... the fortresses and it representing a big chunk of the history in game. Makes me at least hope its in there as a place to explore.

Got all of you.
Welcome to DestinyGAF on Bungie.net
Let's move forward together and explore the fantastic locations of Destiny come BETA!

Has anybody that purchased the PSN PS4 version received any sort of Beta code or download? Haven't received anything so far.....

Interesting, just was rewatching the "Out Here in the Wild" Vidoc and Ryan Ellis of Bungie says "You can go from Earth to Venus, to Mars to the Moon to Saturn"

Obviously a long time has past since that ViDoc came out though.

And in the Angry Joe interview he did mention how one of their jobs was to blow us away etc... lots of make it an experience that no other shooter has ever done yada yada...

Maybe what we've seen is a small portion of a large solar system with many planets, derelict ships, and other things to explore.

Point is... we don't know. Could be massive!

Well I mean that's Deej just talking PR talk, I dunno how much I would make of that. It's his job to get you excited.

Wait, does your step 3 say code redeemed successfully all the time or did you just do that? I can't remember if I did that or not, I thought I did, but mine still says Enter your Code for step 3.

I will say, I was sure as hell that I, a few months back, redeemed my code for the beta on bungie's site. I wouldn't have created the bungie.net account link to my psn account if I didn't.

However today when I went there, and looked at my redeemed codes page, it was not listed. I reentered my code from my amazon email for the beta, and it accepted and now shows beta access on the redeemed codes page.

The Wiki's are not dependable as they're not updated very reliably. Looking at the sources for that page there's nothing that states that the Twilight Gap "contains war-torn fortresses" nor is there anything from Bungie that says humanity first encountered the Cabal at the fortresses of the Twilight Gap.

MTV's article states:
There is a social space near the Tower where the Guardians dwell called the Overwatch District, where you can gamble for better gear, or “Gaze out over the Twilight Gap.” We aren’t exactly sure what the Twilight Gap is, but apparently it represents a big chunk of mankind’s history in the game.

And Badassdigest states:
He starts out in the Overwatch District, a social area where other Guardians gamble for better gear or gaze out over the Twilight Gap, in search of his partner, where he sees that new ship mentioned above, earned by scoring big in competitive multiplayer.

The third link, which is to the Bungie website, doesn't mention the Twilight Gap at all.
Our civilization once spanned the solar system. Its ruins are still out there: buried in the dunes of Mars, hidden in the jungles of Venus, lost in a wild and abandoned Earth. For centuries we've huddled under the safety of the Traveler, protected from our enemies. Now, a new era has begun, and the only hope for our future lies in unlocking the greatest mysteries of our past.

So, it's impossible to tell where the author of that entry got some of that info from. I'm not saying it's fake but it could very well be from an old source that contains info that's no longer accurate. The Bungie site itself has changed once or twice since initial reveal and it's common for early lore to get tweaked or changed as the game gets closer to release.

Edit: Looking further into that Wiki, it also lists "The Array" as a location with very little clarification on what or where it is. We now know that The Array is literally the building that we went through in the introduction mission of the Alpha. It's not at all a separate location like Old Chicago or The European Deadzone would be.

I really loved this game and I can't wait to september as I am still debating if i'll pre-order for the beta or just start fresh and clueless come launch.

Aww, that's a bummer! The Twilight Gap along with the Black Garden sound so damn interesting (esp the BG concept art!)... i hope they make it in.

I thought so too but that doesn't seem to be the case. Not seeing any beta showing up in my downloads or library as others have apparently had. May have to reach out to Sony for support on this come July.....

Hmm, I'll have to try my code again then. Could you try one more thing real quick? Log out, close your browser, and then log back in and see what it says?

Logged out, closed browser on this computer. Logged back in, and still says Destiny Beta access on my redeemed codes page under profile.

Anyone think this might go the way of diablo III?

Open beta weekends were really popular and everyone loved the gameplay. But once people got to end game on release, people's opinions soured.

There is still a lot we don't know about the game.

If the RPG goes wrong there's still PvP

I got bored after a while but I think its because I was playing alone.

If ya played through the small sampling in the alpha and then got bored, I can understand. There wasn't a whole lot to do, but it was fun replaying some of it with friends. The full release (and probably beta too) will have A TON more stuff to do.

Diablo 3 was bad because of the Real Money Auction House and poor loot drops. Destiny doesn't have an Auction House and at least in the alpha, I was getting decent drops (and even higher level rares).

I don't think that many people used the RMAH. I, and a lot of other people, used the regular auction house, which did ruin the game too.
