Official Destiny Alpha Withdrawal Thread

What are the odds of Bungie surfacing some of the emblem graphics so that we can possibly incorporate them into our avatars?

you wouldn't be too far off.

Mars is definitely my most anticipated destination that I want to visit. The rolling sand dunes glimmering in the sun remind me of the relaxing moments I had with Journey.

Except on an even grander and larger scale.

same but I'm going to the reef first

For what it's worth, if Joe wrote the line "the wizard came from the moon", maybe it is time to move on to different things...

I blame the writing and dialogue more than Dinklage for the recent uproar over the voice acting.

Seems like every bungie line has at least a couple absolute stinkers in there.

Halo: "This Cave is not a natural formation!"

Halo 3: "Where should we tell the drop ship to go?"

"TO WAR"

Destiny: "That's a wizard from the moon"

I'm not sure where it crosses the line from dumb to endearing or back again.

I get your point, it would be nice to have some clarity about the amount of content we can expect.
Cause if we're looking at about 4x old Russia, I'd be disappointed.

This is from one of their YouTube Videos. It's definitely Looks like more content than in the earth alpha (even if you count all the grayed-out strike markers in the alpha).
But it was an alpha, so there could be a lot of stuff missing.

Can anyone overlay the Venus map with the old Russia map, using the icons to scale them? I was wondering if we can get a rough size comparison of Venus from that.

The problem was it wasn't just the wizard moon line. Just in that one mission alone, "If you see something flying... ... You have to kill it!"

I mean I guess that Wizard from the moon line is kind of endearing in that it's so bad it's good kind of thing. I did admit I got a good laugh out of it.

"... All those Devils."

I just adore Dinklage's delivery on that last part of the sentence. It's like someone walked in the booth with his coffee and it broke his concentration completely.

Well there's also the implication that something has allowed the hive to leave the moon as it was thought they were contained there. It's not just "harrrr MOON WIZARD!!".

But yeah it's bad.

You can't compare that this way, because the symbols stay the same size because of readability, but the actual scale of the world and map can be completely different.

Oh I get it... it's still bad. I just don't really understand the voice direction. You hire Peter Dinklage and yet you fail to capitalize on what makes Peter Dinklage great as Tyrion: His dry, biting and sarcastic wit.

Maybe the full game will have more of that?

:lol I did the strike over ten times and cringed each time I got to that part.

Yeh I understood that it wasn't all of the Old Russia location. The thing I'm most curious about is whether we're still going to see Chicago and Mumbai.

Yeah same but mine was such a happy cringe! I should be hating on the bad VO but just can't stop smiling when I think of the terrible lines and delivery. Anyway hey Vire what's your PSN man? I need to add you.

I'm still not at all convinced that there's anything wrong with Dinklage's delivery or the writing.

The Alpha was an unfinished state of the game. There's no reason to believe that Dinklage's VA within the game was done either.

I don't really think it's all that bad tbh. It's just one of those lines that stick out when you're half listening to dialogue because you really aren't engrossed in the topic.

That very same line delivered 5 minutes into a cutscene after a player has become engrossed in the story of the game doesn't get a reaction. 5 minutes into an Alpha demo where you're tasked with clearing out a dungeon with almost zero introduction or context.. it's a giant beacon of "wtf did he just say? lol"

I sad seemingly.

Here's a screenshot of the current map shown in the trailer that came out last week:

At E3 2013, Mercury and Saturn were mentioned as destinations. In addition to the Old Chicago, Europa (Jupiter's moon) concept art that was made.

Obviously, those places aren't seen in the latest map, but who knows. I'd love to be wrong about it and have more content.[/QUOTE]

Ehhh... I'm careful about getting upset over things that aren't released yet. Not saying you're wrong, but Mercury's gardens are mentioned in E3 2014's trailer anyway, as well as an image here clearly showing Mercury, Venus, Earth, The Moon, Mars, Jupiter, and at least an orbit pattern for Saturn. It could just be content that is coming later, or content that is on the Director map, just not in view in your image.

latest e3 '14 trailer (pre-Darkness, mind you, and note the "number glyphs" from the first ARG, these must be important)

Destiny ViDoc, Out Here in the Wild, clearly something you'd think was Mercury (or a station even closer to the Sun), why would they throw out such a beautiful location that already seems realized in-engine?

Saturn above, no? That's also in-engine, so the location is at least built.

None of the above is from concept art. They are built at the very least for cutscenes (though the ships suggest otherwise).

Point being: I still think there's a lot to Destiny we don't know about, so a wait and see approach would be wise.

After watching a newer trailer that had a filter over his voice, it sounded a lot better than it was in the alpha.

Edit- This trailer

Also true.

I believe one of the E3 videos he is much better.

It's audioandy.

Thanks! will add you when I turn my PS4 on in a bit.

It's audioandy. I'm a big music buff. :)

Made a thread for East Coasters in DestinyGAF on B.net to drop their PSN names.

It sounds like they put a voice modulator on him to sound more robotic so maybe that will help?

It's one thing to have one small environment of an area completed in August of last year, it's another to flush it out with content related to strikes, campaign and exploration. Usually when things get cut, they are partially completed, but don't have the full resources to make it a reality.

On the topic of content in Destiny and Chicago, this shot kinda looks like Chicago based off the Destiny concept arts. Could also be Mumbai.

Most def.

That was actually the one thing about Peter's VA that stuck out the most... to me anyway. That Ghost not having a more Robotic like voice.

I don't think there's a lot of info out yet about the Ghosts or even if they are A.I? but it's still a metal little shell I expect some kind of unique voice effect. Which we seem to be getting.

I thought Dinklage was decent after I found out he was supposed to be an AI. Maybe not the best performance ever, but about what I would expect out of such a character. I did find the moon line amusing, but that was more because of the lack of context than his delivery. I have a feeling it will be fine in the final release.

Unfounded? I will bet my left pinky toe that Mecury is nowhere in the game.

There's basis off the map footage shown in the latest E3 trailer. Also, has nothing to do with game design, more to do with disappointment of lack of content. (One raid, cut planets)

I don't think anything was "cut" per say. I don't think Mercury, Europa, and Saturn were ever meant to be part of Destiny 1. My guess is they are part of the first expansion or part of Destiny 2. We don't even know anything about the 1 raid other then that it is very complex. I would reserve judgement until we here something from Bungie.

"No...it can't be. IT'S THE HIVE!"

"That Wizard came from The Moon!"

"No...it can't be. It's the Hive!"

Are T-shirt worthy and I would wear them both without shame.

Regardless of whether or not stuff were 'cut', it's fairly obvious that back when Destiny was first unveiled (back when it was just concept art), Bungie didn't draw too much of a line between "these are what our 10-year ambitions are! Explore the entire solar system! Ship combat! All these planets!" and "these are the content for year one of Destiny."

I'm waiting to find a bit more information about the ghosts before I pass judgement. We all just assume they're nothing more than an AI but we don't really know the back story.

I read they we're created by the Traveler just prior to him/it dying as a final act. Maybe they are an actual being or consciousness. That would fit in a bit better with the human rather than mechanical voice.

I'm glad that there is a few other people who don't hate his performance. I'm not saying its the best I've ever heard. I still think its decent though.
