Clearly you have not watched many England matches before. This was not a bad performance. The goal was well worked there was some good individual skill, but Woy brought Sterling off way too early though he was not as effective on the wing as he was in the centre against Italy.
Without Gerrard's awful error the discussion would be about why England weren't able to go.on and win the match, and theblack if killer instinct.

1. italy wins everything
2. england wins against costa rica
then the goal difference would be compared.. in that regard england would be better off than uruguay but they would need to be better than costa rica.
