Official Destiny Alpha Withdrawal Thread

It should be DestinyGAF as the main group and within that, once Bungie.net updates to support multiple clans, we can make platform/region specific clans.

Can anyone tell me when the beta starts and how long it will last? I am debating buying a ps4 so I can play it with my brother this summer.

There's over 350 people in the PS4 group, that assumption was a part of the problem.

Anyone want to shop an Exo's head into this picture?

Sent my application in for the group. Can't wait to play with some folks in the Beta and try Crucible this time around.

DestinyGAF: What was your favorite mode from the Alpha?

Toss-up between Explore and Strike.

In the Strike, I could swap between my two Level 8 classes, hop into a match with two other people (who were usually decent players) and just shoot shit for a solid 20-30 minutes. Quick, fun and painless. Really enjoy the coordination required and how everybody was working towards the same objective. I only had one frustrating reset in the Sepkis fight, but if you minimize your own deaths, you can always wait for the downtime in combat and tackle it again. These are going to be very replayable for me in the full game.

Explore was my other go-to mode. On most occasions, I'd speed around on my Sparrow and shoot everything I saw, and then find a nice place to sit and watch the skybox until a Public Event happened. Skywatch and Forgotten Shore were great for this, and my last Public Event was the Devil Walker in The Divide with two random people who joined in. If the world is populated enough with people and events, I could easily get lost in this mode. You meet other players and show off your Guardian, band together for an explosive Public Event, and then go off on your own to find loot or join the next group of roaming players. It's really something else. I don't even need to worry about having people online because of the way matchmaking plays in this mode.

However, when my friends did jump online, we usually went into Crucible. Having a coordinated team to work with and control the objectives is a blast and works very well with the abilities. Rusted Lands actually became my favorite map of the two once I got the hang of the sightlines my team and I could lock down while we captured the zones.

When I wasn't in the other modes, I really just roamed around The Tower. I wish playtime was tracked here because I must have spent at least 5 hours on average staring at The Traveller or dancing with other Guardians. This is honestly my favorite part of the game. The beautiful scenery and pleasing music is the perfect backdrop for social square dancing and flaunting your Guardian. I hope there are more areas like this.

DestinyGAF: What was your favorite mode from the Alpha?

Strike, obviously. :P

I like having to coordinate with my team. Long time CS and BF2 Realism player, and even though this isn't really on the same level, we still had to work together to target certain legs and draw aggro away from our "DPS" and such.

DestinyGAF: What was your favorite mode from the Alpha?

The Explore mode. Not only was it fun playing with friends but you could also go solo and just well, explore. Not to mention some of the out of the blue moments and random events like Fallen and Hive literally going to war or the roaming band of Pikes to the public events.

I enjoyed the Strike and was reluctant to try out the Crucible and waited to the final hours of the Alpha but when I did and played the Moon map I loved it!

DestinyGAF: What was your favorite mode from the Alpha?

I really loved Patrol. Any game with an expansive map for exploring and the ability to get into trouble poking around in dark ruins is incredibly compelling to me.

That said, FINALLY getting my two little brothers together for the Strike was insanely fun. Even when the flakiest youngest brother had to leave abruptly (to be fair, he just had a kid) fighting off the waves of Fallen was an amazing experience, especially yelling at Andy to go kill that damn invisible sniper already or else stop complaining about reviving my corpse.

I never even bothered trying PvP. I'm sure I'll dabble, but it's not terribly interesting to me.

- DestinyGAF group is created on Bungie.net in anticipation of the Alpha-group being deleted with the Alpha site shutting down. The group is created by Raishin, who promises to pass it on to PsychoRaven when he returns. There is some misunderstanding ( PsychoRaven thinking someone has ‘stolen’ DestinyGAF ), but outside of that no problems arise. A new thread is not yet made for the group because there is not yet any pressure to do so and the people most interested in Destiny are in the Alpha Withdrawal thread anyways. The creators of this original DestinyGAF go offline.

- Shadownet creates DestinyGAF PS4 to solve the ‘problem’ of not being able to know what platform someone is playing on. Some people point out that this problem does not exist, because a single group can be divided in separate clans ( and thus the original DestinyGAF can be divided according to platform without the need for creating a separate new group ), but the recruiting goes on anyways, ignoring the criticism. Both sides repeat themselves several times, but nothing changes. Because there is no thread for the original DestinyGAF and because the DestinyGAF PS4 thread does not have a proper disclaimer, people get confused and some join this new DestinyGAF not knowing about the original one or just to be sure.

- People continue to be confused at how the clan system on Bungie.net works and do not read posts where they are explained. Confusion regarding the clans continues with some people proposing either one to shut down, some pushing for a poll or discussion, and others proposing that there should be as many clans as we want there to be

- I cry in a corner.

- I make a fancy banner and spend way too much effort in writing a recap.

I was a bit confused about the groups and, honestly, wasn't terribly interested in a whole lot of readin' to figure out what was going on. But you made a nice banner, which hilariously gives your post an incredible amount of gravitas, so I joined the original DestinyGAF. Feels like the more correct thing to do, accepting that there seems to be no stakes and no wrong answers to this non-dilemma.

Does anyone think the Hunter may be too good for PVE? The Solar Gun is the best for single target and the knife throw is the only ranged melee ability.

I'll be playing Titan since I like to punch faces, but I can't help to think that I'm putting myself in danger more than the hunter and I don't really get any extra defenses for it.
