Official Destiny Alpha Withdrawal Thread

I downloaded the alpha on PS4, went to bed. Woke up to play it and after pressing X to start I get a "Thanks for your effort, Soldier. See you in the Beta" or something... So I didn't even get to try it :(

Does anyone think the Hunter may be too good for PVE? The Solar Gun is the best for single target and the knife throw is the only ranged melee ability.

I'll be playing Titan since I like to punch faces, but I can't help to think that I'm putting myself in danger more than the hunter and I don't really get any extra defenses for it.

Titan has some sort of shield, at level 15.

DestinyGAF: What was your favorite mode from the Alpha?

Explore mode for me. I'm not terribly good at multiplayer shooters and I found strike mode pretty stressful at the time. I'm looking forward to trying strike mode again in beta, I wasn't aware when I played it in Alpha that there wasn't really a death penalty (as I hadn't died yet) and I spent most of my time resurrecting the other people on my team so it was pretty stressful. It also didn't help that I had that bounty to beat the strike without dying (that didn't even end up working when I completed it!). It was just far more relaxing to mindlessly slaughter the Fallen on my own terms.

It's too early to say I think. Most of the time, I personally found the Titan's super far more useful.

Anyone want to shop an Exo's head into this picture?

Not the best work, but meh.

DestinyGAF: What was your favorite mode from the Alpha?

Strike was pretty crunk, but I'm a scrub and like to just roam free, as if I'm a badass, completely oblivious to how much I actually suck. Denial of co-op accountability and all that jazz.

I hope it makes up for nothing being able to shoot the boss miles away with a super.

Titan's good for crowd clearing, but the Warlock could do that at range. It's just too dangerous for a Titan to walk up to a boss and super. Also, their stun grenade doesn't affect the boss from what I remember.

In the process of rendering 5-10 second clips of my hundreds of Destiny videos but have put together a preliminary video for Destiny.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMQQi1-FrU4

Fairly long. Tried to put it together with some music. Showcasing some boss fights, insane random events I got into, cool moments, etc.

Will be putting together a faster paced video soon.

Using SHAREfactory music too to avoid the hassle of copyrights.

I think all the classes were fairly balanced. Played all of them, even did Titan from level 3 in PVP. The Hunter is SLIGHTLY better, the knife and gun being really strong. The gun is amazing because it also takes out vehicles. The Warlock and Titan are even, since they both have AOE Supers. Different strategies though. I tend to use my Warlock grenade and stay at a range. Titan I like to flash and then Super and take out huge groups.

I really enjoyed doing the Strike mission. Teaming up with other people and getting put into intense fire fights was really fun.

Toss-up between Explore and Strike.

Strike, obviously. :P

You all are going to be so let down when you realize the reason Bungie refuses to call Destiny an MMO is because there are only a handful of strikes and the one raid, which are only there to prepare you for the Crucible.

:D :D :D

I could have played the Alpha alone for at least a month, so I'm not worried about a "lack of content". Besides, the game's getting an expansion next year to add even more content. I'm actually overwhelmed by how much the game has, and the enormous potential of the clan system is turning me off from joining one in the first place. I feel a bit lost.

That's all true enough. I tend to rush a bit when I activate my supers so with ranged weapons I end up missing half the time. It was far easier for me to just rush into a crowd and activate it.

I have to admit, the one thing I'm worried about is potentially rushing through the content and only having the crucible left to advance my character. PVP is something I will never be good at, though I kind of dislike the idea of being locked out from all that crucible only equipment so I'll probably end up slogging through it anyway. It is probably a rather silly worry considering I spent 10 hours just going through explore mode in the one area of the Alpha. Even if it only had one more freeroam area of the same size I would easily get my money's worth.

I was able to walk up to the Devil Walker all the time and super. He would use that slam attack as a counter but it wouldn't kill me.

Titans attack is, as you said, fantastic for crowd clearing. Anytime the dropship came in against the Prime I would wait for them all to drop in, then chunk my grenade and then perform my flying super right after and take out the entire group in one attack. Was fun!

It was also fun chunking my grenade onto the Prime, especially the tier 2 grenade that would stick and then throw out 3 additional explosions for additional damage.

it's ok. you don't miss what you never had.

Does anyone have any idea what we get for those destiny collector cards you could redeem last November? I believe there were 11?

not sure. it's up to 17 now though.

No, still no clue - i am thinking it might simply be some cosmetic wrist bands. But still no one knows and i don't think we will till launch.

Is there anymore room in DestinyGaf? My psn/bungie is pokeystaples. I was in the PS4 group, but would like the ability to access hints and tips and stuff from xbox users as well since the game will be the same aside from the one map and strike.

psn/bungie id: pokeystaples

Still room, send a request and I can approve it now.

Shep, he's mine. I call dibs.

edit- you're in pokey

DestinyGAF: What was your favorite mode from the Alpha?
Strikes, easily. Explore could have duked it out with Strikes, but the server issues where other players never phased in made it so that 4 out of 5 times I went to explore, the world was empty of players the whole time.

Strikes were fun because either I got a bad teammate or two and had to tighten up my own playing to compensate (making for some pretty intense encounters), or I got pretty good teammates, and we mopped things up pretty expertly. :)

Also can't believe i haven't answered the what's my favourite part of the game.

Easily the strikes as well - hoping for more challenge and less bullet sponges in future ones past the devil's lair and i am very much looking forward to hopefully getting a raid going and wiping endlessly on the vault of glass.

DestinyGAF: What was your favorite mode from the Alpha?

Free roam when it worked. The only time I really got to spend with strike I was way under leveled and I never made it back. I spent most of my time hoping to run into others randomly. The results were often glorious.

I'm sure everyone who wants one has one already, but I have an extra pre-order code, which gives access to the beta. If anyone wants it, just quote me to reveal it.

edit: code gone

There is a penalty for dying, but only if all 3 of you die (you have to restart). On legendary mode it SUCKED when that happened with one of the bosses near death. As for the bounty for the strike, mine never completed either until every person in my party beat the strike without dying.

So here's a dumb thought that's nevertheless effecting me:

I want to play an Exo. Great! They're obviously the best choice as has been clearly established in the thread
(Awoken? Right, go back to the reef or whatever. Human? Sure, just keep biding your time until extinction.)
But I also want to consider being a Hunter. Problem? Yes. Why? Rebreathers. Yeah, a ton of the Hunter helmets have rebreathers or some other filter apparatus. Yup, that'd be cool if I was some inferior, air needing, mouth breather of a species. But I'm not; I'm a goddamn robot. So it looks wrong to me. Anyone think there will be a "hide helmet" option for when you're out on mission? That would solve A LOT of problems, am I right? I know I'm not the one one... Definitely not the only one...

(Unless there are fictional hooks that suggest Exos need air. Then I take it all back. But not the superiority stuff. That stays.)

- DestinyGAF group is created on Bungie.net in anticipation of the Alpha-group being deleted with the Alpha site shutting down. The group is created by Raishin, who promises to pass it on to PsychoRaven when he returns. There is some misunderstanding ( PsychoRaven thinking someone has ‘stolen’ DestinyGAF ), but outside of that no problems arise. A new thread is not yet made for the group because there is not yet any pressure to do so and the people most interested in Destiny are in the Alpha Withdrawal thread anyways. The creators of this original DestinyGAF go offline.

- Shadownet creates DestinyGAF PS4 to solve the ‘problem’ of not being able to know what platform someone is playing on. Some people point out that this problem does not exist, because a single group can be divided in separate clans ( and thus the original DestinyGAF can be divided according to platform without the need for creating a separate new group ), but the recruiting goes on anyways, ignoring the criticism. Both sides repeat themselves several times, but nothing changes. Because there is no thread for the original DestinyGAF and because the DestinyGAF PS4 thread does not have a proper disclaimer, people get confused and some join this new DestinyGAF not knowing about the original one or just to be sure.

- People continue to be confused at how the clan system on Bungie.net works and do not read posts where they are explained. Confusion regarding the clans continues with some people proposing either one to shut down, some pushing for a poll or discussion, and others proposing that there should be as many clans as we want there to be

- I cry in a corner.

- I make a fancy banner and spend way too much effort in writing a recap.

Best recap ever haha, Thank you for this.

The effects of withdrawal are getting more and more serious by the day. I ease them by launching the alpha and listening to the music.

I miss it so much. :(

That needs to be put in the Destiny OT, once it gets created.

I played an Exo Hunter in the alpha (and will do so in retail). It's the best combo. Yeah, a hide helmet option would be nice, but I didn't mind so much.

And
I think Exo have some organic parts inside, so maybe their lungs or whatever are live tissue. That's my guess. Or just a design flaw that got overlooked.

So I had watched "Everything we know about Destiny" videos yesterday and my head exploded.

So you are telling me, that I will play for several hours a day, get to work and then AT WORK, I will be wasting (not really) time by reading those cards of story and lore snippets via the Destiny App on my smartphone?

I am skipping Steam sales because of new PS4 and this freaking huge game.
I see myself exploring everything, mainly walking on feet and breathing the atmosphere and being engrossed in it.

This maybe WoW all over again. Holy damn hype. ed: and 24/7/365 everyday content for ten years

Destiny is super amazing, but that's still no excuse for skipping the Steam sales! You need to build up your collection.

Really wish I could change my PSN ID to MoonWizard.

I would just shoot you if I saw you, because Tyrion Lannister told me to.

Well now the stress is back, thanks! Hopefully that bounty thing is just a bug, I really don't want to have to rely on teammates not dying to complete stuff like that.
