Progress on smashrun enemy sprites, taking a break for now.

I know. It's frustrating to play a game online, see that a friend is randomly online and be able to do exactly nothing about it. The time that sticks out in my mind was actually playing Kid Icarus Uprising. There was no way to contact in the game or with the system, at least not a way that would be noticed.

If it's not easy, I don't see myself playing w/ friends much unless we set up something ahead of time. I'd love to add most of you here on gaf and just invite or be invited randomly :/ I don't want to hang around in some lobby and wait and wait and wait for nothing. That's boring. I want to be playing classic mode or something and have it say 'hey yo, intelliheath has invited you' and be able to quit out and start playing.

Last time I checked there was more to Smash than online with strangers. I mean what the heck was I doing in the last three games?

Unless online play is super intuitive w/ friends and extremely fun and rewarding with strangers, I see myself playing 80-90% offline anyway, so none of these issues will be a problem... for me at least.

Unless for fun/glory are the best things ever, I see 80-90% of my online play being w/ friends anyway.

I think what BGBW was getting at, and what I was getting at before was local multiplayer, not online with friends.

The offline play is the big thing for me for sure. I'd love if the online here is great, but I can live without it.

So

how many games have you guys become aware of first through smash?

my answer is: pretty much all of them aside from pokemon and mario, I think. I was a youngin' when I played smash64

Mostly the obscure Japanese ones, everything else I knew of because I had the power, Nintendo Power

Yeah, i plan on playing mostly local, sorry if I wasn't clear about that.

Well, I was a youngin' starting with Smash 64 too, but I was also a Sega fanboy so

Earthbound
Metroid
F-Zero
Kirby
Game&Watch
Ice Climbers
Fire Emblem

Pretty much the obscure ones or ones that didn't have alot of marketing. Kirby is the odd one there.

Then there was the WEALTH of trophies in Melee and Brawl. I'd be here forever recollecting all the series.

Yeah, being born and raised w/ nintendo since the NES, the only things I didn't know about were Fire Emblem and some of the trophies/assist trophies from older smash games - stuff from games that never made it to the US or had not come over yet. For example:

Also, side note:

The following assist trophies were unlockable in brawl:

I wonder if we'll have any in smash 4.

I actually owned F-Zero X and played it before Smash 64, but it took me close to a year to put 2 and 2 together and realize Captain Falcon was from that game. I had just assumed he was from some random NES game or something. Ah, my 10 year old mind.

I had no idea who Samus, Kirby or Ness were. I barely knew DK or Link. I knew Fox, Pikachu, Mario, Luigi and Jiggly, because I had a lot of experience with their games.

The Nintendo 64 was my first Nintendo system, so characters without N64 games I didn't really know about. And most of my N64 games were Rare or Mario games. I never owned Kirby 64 or Oot, just rented them often (I now own ports of both)

Melee's trophies helped me get up to speed with Nintendo, and now I think I'm pretty knowledgeable about Nintendo, partially because of the Smash Bros series. I got Fire Emblem, Game and Watch and Ice Climbers from Melee.

I knew everyone in Brawl and had played nearly all of their games by that point.

Smash 4 I have never played Wii Fit, so she's the only character in the entire roster whose game I have never played.

-kirby
-that orange robot samus thing, he doesn't even have a nintendo 64 game
-captain falcon
-ness (the fuck is this? what a bad final unlockable character where is bowser?)

the rest I knew.

Was really young when I started with Melee, so...

Fire Emblem, Metroid, F-Zero, Earthbound, Ice Climbers, Game&Watch, and Kid Icarus.

SSB64: I barely knew about F-Zero or Star Fox, but the only one I didn't know about was Earthbound; when I saw Ness, I thought he was a replacement for Nester as Nintendo Power's mascot between when I stopped reading NP (Around when the NES died down) and when SSB64 came out. I mean, the pun was even more obvious with Ness, so...

Melee: Thanks to the Game & Watch Gallery games, I knew about Mr. G&W, but like most people here, it was the first I had heard about Fire Emblem and Ice Climber. I'm pretty sure every unrepped series' trophies besides Smash Bros.' itself were new to me as well.

I've known about every franchise in Brawl and 4 so far, but I'll admit I didn't try Fire Emblem until about 2 years back, so I didn't know who Ike was at first. Even if he was the first newcomer after the game's reveal, I couldn't get hyped because I only saw him as a rougher Marth.

Also, Neorice, I'm sorry to ask, but would I be able to use that Kremling sprite as an avatar when the set's all finished?

Does this mean the bundle will be a gamestop exclusive? Can't find it on amazon.

Is it GameStop exclusive?

No idea! It very well could be. Xenoblade was gamestop exclusive. Stuff Nintendo does 'for the fans' tends to be gamestop exclusive.

I'll wait to see if it appears on amazon soon, if not, i'll preorder at gamestop for now. I can always cancel (no consequence... they don't charge until they ship).

they better release the GC adapter before Smash launches

if I have Smash U downloaded at 12:15AM on launch day with no gamecube controllers to play it with so help me

Shame I've got the Wii U game pre-ordered at Best Buy (for that coin thingamabob). I could really go for that combo.

Well, maybe I'll pre-order a second copy closer to release, when I have more money, and put the first copy toward my brother's Christmas present or something. (Or maybe I'll just buy the adapter and not worry about the controller when I still have functional GC controllers from the early 2000s.)

So am I right in saying that out of all the E3 assist characters that Isaac wasn't summoned? Which means he still has a chance?

Fire Emblem and Earthbound for obvious reasons (FE was Japan only at the time and Earthbound was never released on SNES in Europe). Also Mr Game and Watch.

Brawl was the first Smash Bros. I was old enough to truly appreciate, and by that time I was familiar with everyone on the roster. I was in elementary school when SSB64 and Melee were released, so there were a bunch of characters I'd never heard of (like Ness, Marth, and Mr. Game & Watch).

Why on earth does my version of Samus having a Fusion suit have anything to do with the balance of the game?
Fusion's suit doesn't seem like a good choice because its frame is so much lankier than the Varia Suit's, so its hitbox might not fit right. I'd go with the Light Suit personally, or maybe a Super Metroid or Zero Mission-style Varia.
