Because the schedule was planned long before the actual group stage draw.

Sure, but haven't we all accepted that FIFA will put the fix in from time to time. For anyone in the US time zone (and that's a ton of people) it kinda sucks because we finally have no work/school and the games are pretty shit. I mean, I'll probably still watch a bit, but Argentina v. Iran and Nigeria v. Bosnia are tough to even get a little excited about. /entitled rant

Lallas talking about Portugal like the US is gonna wreck them.

Doesn't Lalas basically hate/envy Klinsmann? Sure feels like it. After the Ghana match, you'd think the US had lost 3-1 instead of, you know, amazingly beating the team that had owned us for over a decade and had every reason to own us this year as well. US is rightly a huge underdog I'm sure, but the way Lalas approaches his analysis I always feel like there's a ton of politics/personal grievances behind it.

Yeah. Lalas sucks big time. Easily the worst on ESPN right now

I'm pretty drunk too but what game are you pregaming for? There's no game for like 13 hours! Aww Christ, I apologize for anyone reading two drunk idiots trying to understand each other....

I'm going to a party brah, not pregaming for the soccerballfoot game. But that list was a bit of a clusterfuck with Iran there after like...tying with another awful team. WTF?

Why the fuck are people cheering UEFA and CONCACAF? Seriously, explain.

I'm cheering for CONCACAF because if the teams from that confederation do well, it will show that the region is not as bad as people think it is and because it will show that it is progressing.

What? any links to this?

However, the Argentine and Spanish press have both carried stories of disharmony in recent days, with a suggestion that Messi had "ordered" a change of tactics in the 2-1 win against Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Argentina started the game with a 5-3-2 formation before switching to 4-3-3 with a double substitution at the break, a move Messi welcomed after the match while saying that "Sabella himself realised" that Fernando Gago and Gonzalo Higuain had to come on.

Can't wait for Argentina to crash and burn. You know it's coming.

YOU SHUT YOUR DIRTY MOUTH, BAM

fuck, you're probably right.

Ah well, without Pulga's sister pics it wasn't a perfect day, but it was pretty damn close. Can't believe I'm experiencing Costa Rica making it to the round of 16 again, and I'm pretty goddamn sure we can make it even further. So much national pride today from literally everyone everywhere. It's a good day GAF. Good day.

Congrats, Fireblend. At this point I have more faith in CR advancing farther than Mexico. In this short time, you've been a class act and have become an anti-pulga.

Lalas is an idiot anyways, when he opens his mouth I suddenly temporarily lose my hearing.

Well for one their next rivals look more accesible than either Netherlands or Chile, of course we need to beat Croatia first. We were very unlucky with the drawing, not so much the group but the fixtures after that.

Anyway, Costa Rica has looked really really good, i have no idea with Mexico cause i always kinda zone out during matches lol.

It is the most boring and shitty argument. Now calling diving flopping... That annoys me, for no good reason, I am truly hating every single time someone says flopping.

Yup. Makes us SOCCER fans look so immature. (we are, but still..)

I just want Klose to play and score.

Me too. He seems like a person who isn't obsessed with being top scorer, which is why he should get it. Plus he is an awesome mofo.

Euro vs Euro matches continue to be the most entertaining matches of the tournament.

One mistake of the defense and you'll very likely see a goal or at least a good attempt.

Here's something that those of you who pay attention to MLS may be able to clear up for me. A friend of mine claims that flopping/diving (or least the overly theatrical kind) is less prevalent in the US because making a big deal out of being hit is seen as being a wuss. That there's more of a "man up and keep playing" mentality in MLS as opposed to the European clubs. As such, unless a penalty is pretty blatant/severe, yellow cards aren't issued as frequently.

Is there any truth to that, or he just talking out of his ass? Being American I wouldn't be surprised if there was some truth to it. At least the part about flopping/diving making you come off as a wimp.

MLS retroactively fines players from simulation. That discourages it to an extent.

^ drop by the World cup gif thread, not to sound like a cu*t, but most of these are already posted there.

Anyway just heard about the younger bro of two Ivory Coast's players dying of cancer yesterday (Friday) that's so sad.

I want at least one African team to make it far this World Cup, what better team than Côte d'Ivoire.

Ivory Coast have a reasonable chance of making the quarter finals assuming they get out of the group stage, but it would be hard to see them progressing past there. Algeria is the only other African team that I could see getting out of their group as both South Korea and Russia looked very average in their first match. But they would likely be facing Germany in the round of 16 so it is hard to see them going any further.
