Nintendo Treehouse team got a thank-you gift from 4chan's video games board.

Putting names in the submissions would defeat the whole point of being an anonymous contributor, as is the main purpose of their community.

Correct. Which is why I implied that I feel a community that actually does label themselves would be more effective. Regardless the gesture is nice of course. When you know who the community is, it'd be nice to know who in the community took part, to see know who are your fans.

It feels kind of weird to see people talk about how great /v/ is when there's liberal use of racial slurs, anti semitism, and general horrible thoughts that populate it but suddenly they're okay because they made a card. Okay.
Just because there are people that post there that do that doesn't mean there aren't tons who are just normal people discussing video games.

And no I don't post there.

It IS weird for you to see people talk about that in this thread when in reality nobody here has talked about how great /v/ is because they made a card.

It's a nice gesture from a usually troll-ish community you should never take too seriously. I don't think anybody's really tried to argue otherwise.

Except for the fact that 4chan is basically stormfront-lite at this point I guess I agree with you.

How are we never sending things to people? We're supposed to be the good forum!
We got Sony to acknowledge and do that Banderas .gif meme thing a couple times. That's sort of like sending a
really played out
gag gift, I guess.

you realise there's four or so different boards on 4chan devoted to LGBT groups right

/b/ and /pol/ make up something like one twentieth of the site.

A beacon in a sea of shit, yes.

It's not just /b/ and /pol/ despite how terrible those places are too.

That's a nice photo and a nice gesture from /v/. Treehouse did an awesome job with their stream.

Now I wish I would've participated in this.

I just checked /v/ and unless they're all having a REALLY bad day, it's not terrifically different from /b/ in mannerisms

I don't get this at all. What did they do to deserve the thank you??

They put on a great show, helped save Nintendo's E3 reputation

That's cute. I'm always amazed when these kinds of things get finished on a board that suffers from so much shitposting.

I really hope Nintendo does the Treehouse stream again next year, it made for a very enjoyable E3 even though the megatons were few.

A majority of them are just being ironic shitters.

So thanks for doing a stream?

They made that card thing because of the stream? I honestly think that's kind of weird

I thought it was a refreshing change of pace from all the sales talk, tv, CG trailers, and all that other nonsense that usually goes on that i dont really care about.

The stream was dedicated to showing off games, going in depth and getting insight from developers. I thought that was great.

Yep the other companies use E3 as a sale show and Nintendo is so confident with their games that they show them off for hours instead of a 2 min trailer and a 5 min gameplay demo on the floor.

I love how many of the tiles are Nintendo fans taking the opportunity to take a childish swipe at everyone else. Thank you "for saving video games"? For "saving E3"? Gimme a freakin' break.

/v/ Is definitely Nintendo/PC friendly, or at least the last time I checked they were

VERY much so. And it seems to be getting worse. Every other comment is some mustard race bullshit or whining about people not buying WiiUs.

/v/ Doesn't care much for Sony or Microsoft, even last year, they thought Nintendo did great and the other two were horrible

Exaggerated maybe, but it's pretty understandable how Nintendo's E3 stuff could have been the high point of the whole event for some people.

I missed the part where I said they don't like Metal Gear

You must've missed the part where you made an over-generalization of a board where half of the posts made are not even serious.

VERY much so. And it seems to be getting worse. Every other comment is some mustard race bullshit or whining about people not buying WiiUs.

Man, you seem to be getting really worked up over a card. Relax man.

It's pretty simple in my opinon. There are some things about /v/ that are nice, and some things that
make me SICK
are really just annoying. For me it's like that with most websites, including NeoGAF.

the difference, of course, is that rather than being a "funny", "ironic", normal thing, people who throw around nigger and faggot with abandon usually don't last long here

Yeah, and if people prefer GAF for that reason that's perfectly fine. For me, however, that's far from the biggest problem with /v/, and I personally don't react to it emotionally with much more than mild irritation, which I also find in some
SALESFILMICCINEMATIC
threads.

I'm really not trying to trash NeoGAF that much, I just find it less necessary to speak on the positives of this site since obviously most people who actively post on here would be aware of them already.

Because apparently, Neogaf are mostly cunts.

He's not wrong. Most of the developers and bizdev guys in gaming that I know think GAF is a horrible cesspool of assholes.

Well, they do label themselves as a community, but most people who post there aren't seeking personal fame or attention that ties to their real self in the first place. But yeah, there's a different appeal to doing with names.

Yes, but even a good chunk of /v/ was deriding the people making the card, saying things like "they shouldn't be rewarded for simply doing their job." /v/'s one of the biggest boards on the site, so for every one tolerable person, there'll be at least two more who aren't.

As someone who's been on it for the past five years or so, I really disagree. There certainly are times and areas that are better than others (which is where I flock to nowadays), but people are usually pretty terrible towards each other, if not out of genuine malice, then out of the pretense that they should be terrible just to fit in with the culture.

I'm usually just in /vg/ these days and it's pretty nice.

really nice of them, i hope that with this much positive reaction, we get an even better treehouse next year.

also, as neogaf is, 4chan is just a forum up to discussion, the main difference is that they are anonymous, so you have a lot of trolling in general happening, but it also has a lot of great things there, lots of amazing discussions, and they work together to make these beautiful cards to send to the developers. GAF in my opinion is a great place, but while there when i see a dumb post, i can tell that it's mostly a joke, while here sometimes i can't. So there's no reason to think that we are above anyone because of our forum of choice.

How are we never sending things to people? We're supposed to be the good forum!

We're losing to 4chan, guys. LOSING.

NeoGAF won't send a thank you card to anyone unless they release a game that's 1080p and 60fps on consoles, so maybe start a campaign then.
