Well, the country was sort of founded by a German so that's not surprising.
People from the Netherlands used to call themselves 'Diets', similar to the Deutsch in Germany. So in the 1600's, when England mostly had contact with people from the Netherlands rather than from Germany, they began to refer to them as Dutch.

I have no idea what's at fault here, can't be my internet connection because it's retesnel and my PC isn't that bad either. Maybe it has something to do with my PC being behind 2 routers, idk.
