It's more popular in Canada than the US. It's just that Canada has a very poor and convoluted youth system which is only now being reformed and our top athletes as children/teens choose hockey over soccer. Hockey and soccer have a lot of similarities athletically.

1. One team is completely inferior to the other at that point in time coupled with the pitch conditions.
