Can't sleep....

Sounds to me like you're already dreaming? Match is going to be pretty even. Even if it's not going to be even in score, in skill and display it probably will. I expect a good match.

Australia will be treating this game like it is the World Cup Final, they will be going hard trying to win even though the result is of no consequence.

Damn straight, regardless if Spain are shit this Cup, if we managed to overcome the previous World Cup champs with our young side, we'll be over the fucking moon! We won't be sitting on our asses waiting for the plane trip home... it will be all or nothing.

No Cahill though. :(

This will be our problem though, we don't really look like scoring without him. See the Leckie/Oar combo from the Netherlands game. Hopefully though this will allow our guys to stand up for themselves, as Cahill won't be around too much longer, possibly the 2015 Asian Cup might be his last major tournament.

No matter how it pans out, we've given each team (so far) a real good run for their money and we are proud of our team... if only we got a touch luckier with the group draw.

USA Germany - 0-5. I think Germany is going to wreck USA really really hard unfortunately. I'm rooting for USA. I really became a fan of Howard after the match against Portugal. He looks like Common, haha.

But I don't want the US to lose. If they win this, it would mean more popularity for American Soccer. And less European domination in international soccer would be great.

Ronaldo's post-match interview is the best he's ever given. Honest, humble and straight to the point.

Edit: http://www.goal.com/en/news/3790/wo...-average-portugal-could-win-the-?ICID=HP_HN_1

Damn.

"Maybe we're an average team," he said. "It would be a lie to say that we are a 'top' team. We have many limitations and suffer from injuries such as with Pepe [who was suspended] and [Fabio] Coentrao. This limits us a lot. We have a very limited team and we are not at the best level. This does not enable you to beat top teams.

"There are no miracles. We knew we would have a tough group, with perhaps teams better than us. I never thought we could be world champions, we have to be humble and know our level. I'm not a hypocrite, I never thought we could win the tournament "

The 29-year-old was not as candid about the knee injury which has troubled him since the end of the domestic season, but did hint at the extent of the problem and insisted he would battle on.

"I don't want to justify myself by talking about my physical problems, that's water under the bridge," he added.

"I'm here, I'm fighting, I'm trying to do my best, I'm running, and obviously it's no use talking about my issues.

"Every day there's something new in the papers about my knee, and about this and that. That's why I don't want to justify myself. I'm here body and soul to help the national team."

Ronaldo also admitted Portugal looked tired against Jurgen Klinsmann's men in the humid conditions of the Amazon, but did not feel able to expand on that fully due to his own struggles.

"I'm not the most adequate person to answer that question, especially because I don't have the moral high ground here since I haven't been playing the way I would hope lately.

"Obviously we had a very long season, but every team here did as well. They were also playing the Champions League and cups and leagues, so it's something everyone else could point out as well.

"I don't think we lost [sic] the game because our players lacked attitude. Every team comes here to win. We knew we weren't favourites, we have never been.

Not impossible, Schweini is basically a better looking Jens Jeremies.

And "better" is disappointed to be used in this context.

Our "swabian" hunchback from Madrid certainly didnt help either. I said it to the other guy here already but the Bayern midfield with Kroos, Schweinsteiger and Lahm will get us very far in this cup. I would have loved to have Gündogan there, but that is out of the question, so Schweinsteiger is our man to go.

I know, i just don't want Chile to play against Brazil. i'm sure FIFA would not eliminate the world cup host in round of 16. :(

What a great attitude to have for a captain going into the tournament as one of the big teams lol, no wonder he and the rest of the team choked.

Yeah, terrible from him having given his all during the season for his team and sustained injuries, instead of flopping around all season and saving himself for the World Cup.

Keep pretending you are happy he flopped and is about to pack his bags in the most important tournament in sport.

Yes, but we dont need to complain. We still have a brilliant squad with a moron of a coach but that is another topic. Müller, Götze, Klose and Özil should be good enough.

Reus, as phenomenal as he is, is the most easily replaced in our squad. They aren't as good, but we have many other options in his position. Gündogan would have been phenomenal to have.

I just hope in our next game we don't have to substitute a defender due to injury again which robs us of the vital third substitution. A fresh Poldi, Schürrle, even Draxler would have been excellent to have for the last twenty mins.

Why would I be pretending? I don't give two fucks about Portugal. Everyone knows Portugal never stood a chance, especially with a less than fit Ronaldo.

My only interest is that Ronaldo is kept injury-free so he can continue pounding your joke club a new asshole for what will probably be another trophy-less season for Lolcelona.

He's winning the third Balon d'Or anyway, suck it down, bae.

True. We have excellent players in attack. Scoring goals is not our problem. The defence is, but its not only the last line of four. It begins in DM already and Lahm seriously needs to step up.

is urgen klinsman even merican?

think we could do better with a real american coach

Unless you are trolling with this post... Half the coaches in the WC are not from the nationality of the country they are coaching for.

Also WTF is up with some of you children up in here? I don't frequent Football GAF outside of the WC but seriously some of you guys need to grow up and have an attitude adjustment;

Why so much hate towards athletes and countries? It's just a game.... Be nice to each other mmmmmkkkay?

Agreed. Our defence will only hold if we control the midfield. Lahm had an awful game, just as Khedira did. I am hoping Schweinsteiger for Khedira will allow Lahm to improve again as well. Lahm seems to have the most trouble with the heat.

Those three (Kroos included) should also allow us to kill a game at any moment and simply pass the ball around till we recharge. Especially if Götze, Müller, and Özil drop back to help as well.

I swear to God, Khedira must be getting his amazing WAG to blow his managers or something. There's no other explanation why Mourinho/Carlo/Low insist on starting him.

He runs, fights, wins tackles and is a smart guy, that's what managers like. But what he lacks is simply what Kroos or Schweinsteiger have: make the game.

I don't think Ronaldo's knees would last till the next World Cup.

Wouldn't really make a huge difference anyway imo, since Portugal are simply not good enough. Either way, he has done little for Portugal in World Cups, doubt he would do much better as a slower 34 year old.

Portugal need better players and better performers all over though. Especially from the forwards. Probably a new coach too, should hire Tata. Moon.png

Ive read today that Kroos will be coming to Madrid if we find a way to unload Khedira.

Van Ghoul pls
