2014 FIFA World Cup |OT4| What can European men do against such reckless heat?

They still won 2 trophies. Your hate of pep is laughable.

I don't hate Pep. It's not like he's ruining my favourite team or anything. He's inconsequential to 99% of my football viewing. But he'd probably try to make Stoke play tiki taka too if he were managing them. What a one note hack.

Classic European. And parking the bus is not classic Netherlands. Its is classic "I know overall my team is technically inferior."

Defending is a skill too. the point of the game isn't to be "technically superior," it's to win by whatever means necessary.

Seriously, I never expected this. I predicted Oranje wouldn't even survive the group fase, great stuff.

Best of all, everybody is kind of scared now of us lol

Hahaha what. I didn't say it was classic Netherlands either, but they have not exactly seen themselves as too good to not do that before, they have. Don't be so upset that they won playing like that, it will only get much worse when Chelsea wins CL next year. It's not saying your team is inferior especially in a case like this, it's not wanting to risk something silly.

Depends how it is executed. Italy in 2006 played conservative football while being technically superior to most teams. Netherlands simply didn't want to spend too much energy today and were content on giving the initiative away.

They were actually far superior to Chile in every possible way and controlled the match without even touching the ball.

Bueno, mexicanos, los ticos les estamos esperando para que nos acompañen a Octavos de Final.

Go Mexico! Go CONCACAF!

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — FIFA will take no action against the Mexican football federation over fans chanting an alleged gay slur at World Cup matches.

FIFA says its disciplinary panel decided the chant "is not considered insulting in this specific context," and that it dismissed a charge of "improper conduct" during the game against Cameroon on June 13.

The chant is traditionally aimed by Mexican fans at the opposing team's goalkeeper when taking a goal kick.

FIFA had also considered action after the chants were traded between Mexico and Brazil fans at their match last week.

FIFA has no balls.

Not surprised at all. Netherlands was the better team. Really love what De Jong does in the midfield and how Blind was involved in every encounter but i don't like what Sneijder did. They wins in a very classic-Netherlands way with a lethal counter attack.

I believe Chile is a good team too, they not play bad but i feel they don't have a permanent number 10, so is hard for them reaching the area. Gutierrez was ok but he's too young. Valdivia is offensive but it doesn't help too much in defense. Sanchez sometimes was playing as 10 but is not his natural position.

Good game after all, just very strategic and not too pretty to watch.

Too bad i missed Australia vs Spain. Was at the same time so i can't see.

Waiting for Brazil now.

Six points against two of the worst teams of the world cup and one Mourinho style parking the bus. Yes, they won the points but zero respect from me. Anyone winning parking the bus will never get any respect from me.

I'm sure they will cry themselves to sleep, knowing T Ghost from Netjeff won't respect their wins

Is Robben on HGH? Why does he have more pace as he grows older?
I certainly wouldn't be surprised, but I think he hasn't played on the counter with kick and rush since... Chelsea? During the last WC final he also outpaced the Spanish defense twice, but during that period he missed all his chances, instead of most of them now.

Holland should do really well in this tournament, but I have a feeling they'll fuck up along the way.

If they don't, they certainly have a decent chance of reaching the final.

We're on the good 'side' of the tournament now.
So yes I expect to exit 0-2 to Costa Rica.

Van Gaal is the man, the only way I can see the Netherlands not winning the tournament is giving stupid fouls away, De Jong is a complete liability.

Liability? Lol what?

He's so important for this team, get's so many balls out before they reach our defenders

Salty tears, best tears.

Wrong. They will not care at all. All they care for is to win. And they won. Why would anyone care about playing a beautiful game when all they need to do is to park the bus, make the whole sport an ugly and boring fest. Win. Its all that matters anyways. Fuck fun.

Louis van gaal giving the world a masterclass in Managing a team. Who would have thought we would pull 9 out of 3 with this squad before the wc?

No. Van Gaal ignored all Dutch tradition and shamelessly parked the bus. Worst part is that he had no options. Limited team.

Sovereign 9 points from 3 matches, 10 goals for, 3 against, of which two undeserved penalties. Best numbers of the WC so far arising out of the group of death.

of course it's a limited team which is why van gaal picked a system that suits them best: 3-5-2/5-3-2. that's what good coaches do, they adapt. 3-5-2/5-3-2 is a system that's perfectly suited for counter-attacking football, but that doesn't automatically mean that you're parking the bus--it depends on your players.

janmaat is a very offensive wingback, and kuyt is originally a winger/striker. wijnaldum was playing instead of de guzman--wijnaldum is more of an attacking midfielder whereas de guzman is a central midfielder who mostly plays right next to de jong. add two forwards, and, on paper at least, you've got quite an offensive team.

the execution could and should be better, though. while it was defensively sound (chile were mostly neutralised), there were still many opportunities that they missed out on when they did have the ball.
