So I guess there's a chance Toon Link will have a colour based on one of his starting out outfits, likely Outset PJs since ST conductor outfit is already present,

Why would you bother with an alt like this if you aren't going to make a proper model for it?
It's a step above the bland Tunic recolors like Fierce Deity White at least.

Oh that looks sick :O

Speaking of alt costumes, did the E3 build have stuff like Dark Link, Dark Pit etc? Or just standard red/blue/green/yellow team colours or whatever?

They should have at least removed his cap. Link will probably have more alts since Dark Link is a shoe in to return.

I either want back to Melee dark link, who looked great, or
Ravio without the outfit Dark Link

And Bowser needs a
Dark Bowser
alt from Bowser's Inside Story

[post=83912637]If they want to go crazy with the Toon Link colours I have a few suggestions[/post]

If there is one idea that I wanted that I knew would never come it would have been a way to make your own alt palettes with a method to select fixed spots i.e. Mario's hat, gloves, top, dungarees and shows and change the colours. A bit like The Last Story's (if you haven't played it do so now) armour mode.

I think it looks way better than his actual Skyward Sword outfit, honestly. Looks hella cool, IMO.
Agreed. While, yes, it is lazier than going all out and making a model with new clothes, in this case it actually looks really cool, alternate take on the outfit. It's almost like what the descendants of the SS Link would be wearing if he had never got that green tunic. I approve!

But seriously Sakurai: Project M can do real alts, you can too!

Yeah it looks great to me. Link was one of my mains in Brawl and this'll be my go to costume for him in Smash 4.

Same here. It reminds me of the early days of Brawl texture hacks when people could only work with the model and existing texture.

It would be nice if we got proper alts though but like I said, definitely a step up from the boring tunic recolors.

I agree - it's better than a recolour, but I was kind of hoping that with all the manpower at Sakurai's disposal, he'd be able to integrate better alt costumes than hackers in 2008. Even just removing Link's hat for this costume or shrinking Samus' shoulderpads for the Fusion palette would look so much better.

liking that it's not just simple color swaps. makes me wonder what other characters would look like if they had alt costumes

So rather than taking the time to model alts, we're getting last-minute shoehorned recolors?

I guess the next Smash is only six years away...

Last minute? Shoehorned? Recolor? How can one string 3 wrong words together like that.

Sakurai isn't big on actual alternate costumes. The only ones we've gotten so far (Overalls Wario, Female Villager, He Fit Trainer) were chosen because they are just as important to the character as the standard costume. I see no problem with elaborate texture alts like Wireframe Mac and this new Link one.

So now that the PotD release happened, I've been thinking more about why Snake is probably in this game.

Sakurai has stated many times that he greatly dislikes removing characters. Besides the clones from Melee which I think we all honestly can live without just fine, Mewtwo has been the only significant cut in the entire series, and he most likely would've been included as well if it weren't for Sonic considering he was in development. And while he's obviously not the same character, Lucario has similarities to him, which make it a bit more understandable to put Mewtwo on the back-burner, especially with Lucario's popularity at the time. Similar to possibly Lucas this time around.

Something I don't think I've ever seen brought up before is this. When he's making the arrangements for third-party characters, especially considering the time he puts into each of them to make them unique and represent their series, don't you think a point for his consideration would be them returning for future games? While I doubt that there's any sort of "3 movie deal" contract at all, when you think about it, it seems like it most definitely would be an important topic of discussion. To get into Smash as a third party is honestly a pretty big deal, so seeing if they're open for their character to be included into the series as it continues sounds perfectly reasonable considering the hard work and success this series has shown.

Just something to think about. There are plenty of things to factor in. I mean, it's possible that he doesn't consider this at all. And it's also possible that he could've told Kojima, Capcom, or any of the others something like "This could be/is a one time deal!". But for someone who seems so concerned with preserving the legacy of his series, I think that it's something that would be brought up.

August Direct.

Come to me.

I don't mind alt colors like this; they can often be a cool new look, like Samus having the Dark Suit or Fusion suit colors with the Varia Suit's model.
