And it will be so glorious when they do. That is what goal-line tech has showed us; it works. No give as video evidence. Step after that is tracking all players and the ball, so every off-side will be a 100% correct call.

In true FIFA fashion we'll have video technology by 2030.

What... Having a yellow impacts the way you are able to play the rest of the match quite a bit... and if you collect enough yellows through several matches you will get a suspension anyway. Off for 10 minutes? Fuck no.
I'm talking about the match at hand. No real penalty for yellow except you can't be an asshole for the rest of the game. I dunno, questionable reds just have such an enormous impact on games.

Eh WoodenLung said we shouldn't compare different tackles and I was arguing that of course you have to and that's what you do at referee courses to know how to punish different stuff.

If the ref saw the tackle like we did it would have been a red...from what he saw he obviously thought it was a yellow.

No use comparing.

Those are the rules in your book. Not the rules of the game. Sorry bud
I just translated that from the FIFA book, but okay, if you say so.

This says nothing about the cards.
Sorry forgot to add them, lol. But somebody already said it, always yellow, when you hit the opponent first (what I wrote about) and studs up/straight leg = red (going for the opponent, no chance at the ball)

I am pretty certain what Wooden is saying is that comparing these two in particular is silly because it is more than likely that the Ref in the Uruguay match fucked up rather than that its not a red.

Um, no. Your posted rules say that the player should be lunging or challenging for the ball to be booked. The Ecuadorian player was trying to stop and avoid contact. The call was a bad call.

How was he not lunging or challenging for the ball when he touched the ball, as everyone in the "THAT WASN'T A RED!" camp pointed out?

It's not as if that Uruguay challenge is going to go under the "challenges that are yellow cards" video category at the refs meeting.... What is your point then? I said you shouldn't compare a clear ref mistake, with other challenges, saying only challenges worse than the Uruguay one should be a red. You shouldn't do that cause it's a clear mistake that he wasn't shown a red. It's not that hard.

He had possession of the ball already. He wasn't challenging for a ball! I'm not sure why people are acting like this was a 50/50 ball and he lunged to go and get it. He was trying to stop his run to avoid a player coming under him. Watch it again. Please.

Mad respect for the Ecuadorian goalie. He's been doing a very good job.

Also fuck me, he's tall. Looks almost too big for the goal.

Well maybe we misunderstood each other cause I meant we have to compare different kind of tackles in general, and he said no. that's what I was arguing, not the Caceres tackle in that case.

Well... I really don't agree with it not having an impact. Playing with a yellow is horrible for any player that has more defensive duties. and I don't agree with many questionable reds so far either, I might already have forgotten one, but I really can't remember any red that I still don't agree with being a red this world cup. There has been lots of other mistakes though, especially with offsides.

Yet that is the very thing you did in your first post.

'No chance' is pretty vague, mate. At any rate, you don't have to hit the ball to not get a red card.
