Because the people who hate Patrick the most got banned from the GB forum and found like-minded people on Youtube. Also, YT comments are terrible in general, just read the comment section on the Mario Kart 8 QL (or, no, don't do that)..

The extreme hate some people show toward Patrick is mostly because of him being a "SJW", as people on Reddit would call it. That's where the death threats come from.

And as it turns out the type of people most likely to be upset at "SJW"s are also the type of people who will end up acting like the biggest jerks about it. Funny how that works.

Yup totally. Quick Look Solos feel like Patrick trying to fit his content around Giant Bomb's structure. Where as the video essays feel like Patrick making more naturally fitting content influenced by GB's style.
