Is weird as fuck, Suarez should see a psychiatrist, therapist or something, but banning him for that when worst actions go unpunished is mental to me as well. FIFA needs to have him visit a sports therapist to treat his mentality on the pitch and avoid these incidents, but an outright ban is too much in my eyes.

So, you're saying he's a trailblazer in many ways. Future generations will perceive his actions differently with the weight of history behind them.
 
Suarez should be banned both across international and club football. And then he needs to get some mental help.

Punishment should serve as a future deterrent to performing the same action in future. FIFA have a chance to set a precedent here, hopefully they have the nuts to do so.

I agree that football is a shit sport for all the reasons you enlisted, but I can't see how could anyone pass on what happened here. Had I been Chiellini, I would have calmly, friendly approached Suarez faking reconciliation and then punched him in the face at short distance.

Aggressive behavior even when masked as an elbow or a tackle, a knee or a bite is still aggressive behavior and it happens on the pitch. Also Suarez ain't the only one to do this thing, then again I don't see why it matters. This is the reason why we mess up a lot. When people have mental health issues we push a punishment with no care for actual improvement and rehabilitation of the individual afflicted.

Suarez has a mental health issue, a ban does nothing to fix that and is the wrong message in my eyes.

Who gets the benefit of Suarez ban? Teams that haven't played Uruguay and thus have not been aggravated by him? Who does?

That's not true, he could get treatment and be better for it. He isn't killing people on the field, he has an aggressive response problem that with treatment should be controlled. I don't see why he should be restricted from playing at the professional level. Many athletes have mental health issues and they can function properly with the help/treatment they require.
 
I love that someone is actually attempting to say we should not punish someone for what would be a crime off the field

Treatment is important, yes, but it is always a condition that is applied in addition to, you know...punishment

Personally, I think the sport as a whole will benefit if it is seen these actions have consequences. As others have said, you expect to be elbowed, toe-stomped and tackled bad occasionally, you don't expect to be bitten by a goofy cunt with anger issues.

I also think this competition benefited from Italy getting knocked out, they played that match the other day with no desire to win, just hold out for the draw. Something that has been refreshing with this world cup is that most teams are coming out attacking, Italy had a real negative attitude in their last match.

A lot of things that would be a crime off the field go unpunished in football. Also to me treatment and rehabilitation is what's important. Punishment is a silly construct of our religious heritage that usually creates a vicious circle of violence with multiple victims. Is just a way to execute vengeance.

He bit someone. He's getting banned. The only question is for how long, no matter your feelings, emotions, etc etc etc.

All of this shit is really just filler until we get the verdict. You're basically the two year gap before Shippuden :p

Fake Edit: Fucking HOWLING at the whole 'punishment just causes a circle of violence and it's totally religion's fault' deal. Grade A trolling.

Sadly "treatment and rehabilitation" isn't always that easy. If he can't be cured, then what? Let him go bite as much as he wants without ever being punished, and send a message to the world that people can get away with stuff like that?
 
A Journalist on twitter just 'leaked' the decision, apparently a nine game suspension, we'll see whether it's true or not...

EDIT: Now apparently "nine games & four month ban", not sure how that works...

Does he have a mental issue? Probably yeah. But that's not how governing sport bodies work. It's pretty much you do something, you get suspended. You do it again, you get suspended even longer.

So unless I'm missing something that means he will miss most of Copa America next year and won't play for the rest of the year.

If true, Still too lenient but i'll take it if it means he's out for the rest of the World Cup.

There is no way he's going to kick another ball this World Cup. Unless, from the dugout, it's to kick a second ball onto the pitch to stop play just as Colombia are going to score an open goal in the dying seconds of extra time.

The ban is nailed on at this point.
