Does a 4 month ban from "football activity" also mean he cannot be Transferred in that time?

I don't know how the rules work with that.

Too lenient, although I'm surprised FIFA gave the four month ban from all Football.
That's put a spanner in the works for any transfer out of Liverpool, and mess up Liverpool's start to the season, after all the support they've given him over the last couple of years even I feel sorry for them (Utd fan).
I suppose it's not out of character for Suarez to bite the hand that feeds him.

Bans that affect Liverpool

Those and likely the two/three CL matches that Liverpool will play in that time period

I take it this ban also prohibits him from training with Liverpool too? Or is that not considerer a football activity.

I think it's good ban actually, he misses a bunch of Premier League games and at least 4 Champions League group stage matches, and after that 4 month period he's still got 8 more International matches to serve in his ban.

I feel sorry for them too. Terrible attitude for a player who "Changed his ways". BS.

OK, so 9 World Cup Final matches (not qualifiers) and 4 Month ban (i.e. no club games)? Am I getting that right?

- 9 World Cup Matches (not sure if that excludes qualifiers and friendlies)
- 4 Month ban on all Football Related sports
- Stadium Ban
- Fined 100,000 Swiss Francs (roughly $112,000.00)

If the 4 month ban goes into effect today, that means he'll miss up to 16 matches at Liverpool. So effectively, Luis Suarez is banned for 25 Matches.

I cannot quote this post enough.

It is not a lenient punishment. It should not have been longer. That is a long ass ban.

I like that he was banned from any football activity for that period, but should've been longer IMO.

EDIT: Oh, OK. Twenty-five matches sounds pretty reasonable.

Yeah, that's the doubt I had when I posted that question (the way it was initially stated in the press conference, "nine matches in World Cup Games provided Uruguay qualifies" had me doubting, but it was actually clarified in a follow-up question that this includes qualifiers (Still unsure on friendlies).

Still in the realm of what his second biting offense should have been. Doing it a third time on the biggest sporting stage in the world is beyond pathetic and reprehensible. In a sport where men beat each other faces senseless, one bite got the most famous boxer at the time a lifetime ban.

Suarez is lucky he still has a career. 25 matches is incredibly lenient.

Does Liverpool have to pay him for the time missed? In most of the American leagues, a suspension means you aren't paid, but I'm not sure how it works for international soccer.

Oooh, in accordance with their own laws that rule out any appeals. FIFA have stitched this one up nicely. If only the ban was the whole year then it would be enough. He doesn't deserve any more chances now.

This is the 3rd time he has bitten a fellow human. It should have been longer.

It is also the FIRST time it's happened during international play, so while they can take it into account, they likely didn't go full bore with it because it didn't happen during then.

Would have been hilarious if it was a life ban rhough. There was no chance but, the reactions would have been so...
Tasty
/s :)

...goddamnit :p

See top. I totally agree he's lucky to still have a career, but how much of one he'll have after this is up for debate.

I don't think it's fair to say what his second offense should have been either. That's long since passed.

Less than I was expecting, but I guess it's fair enough. He's getting off easy with 4 months during the summer break though, should have started in the fall.

Yeah, we really shouldn't count friendlies though. It's 9 matches for Uruguay plus 9 EPL for Liverpool and, probably, 3 CL matches, for a grand total of 21. Not sure it there's any any FA Cup match or whatever scheduled in this time frame?

People will just forget all about this, it'll only be brought up as banter.

Until he BITES

AGAIN

No it doesn't, both Suarez and Uruguay can appeal (as was stated in the Press Conference), but the appeal wont suspend the ban while it gets resolved.

Playing for his country ban should start now obviously.

The league doesn't start until mid august so he is getting a big pass there.

Complete joke.

If Fifa really were interested in the good of the game then they'd let him play on. Give him a fine, make him see a counsellor or something but don't deprive the millions of people who enjoy watching his footballing ability.

Seriously? What difference does it make if its the first time in international play

Lifetime ban on international football and one full year suspension from all football activities. That would have been approaching reasonable. He bit people three times! The third, the most televised, and with zero remorse or even admittance of guilt. A coward cheater to the very end.
