I believe it is meant to drive awareness of the issue so that hopefully men will be more conscious about they way they act out on their families this and next time something similar happens.

This phenomenon (domestic violence rates increasing after big sporting events, even regardless of the result) is very common worldwide. It's important that it gets addressed. My mom works as a supervisor for 911 calls regarding children, and she knows this all too well. They get extra staff during most major sporting events and such, it's very sad to hear the stories of child abuse arising out of such petty rage.
