Official Destiny Alpha Withdrawal Thread

What makes you think that? I found the skill trees and loot system in Borderlands lackluster. Destiny has a central hub, as well as weapon and armor customization.
Just the overall vibe I guess I'd love to be proven wrong but so far there are only like two subclasses mentioned for say warlock and they seem pretty straight forward. Maybe they'll announce more stuff who knows.

But in borderlands 2 you could combine so many skills in a tree. Like the mercenary/soldier. You could have multiple turrets that shot rockets, or one that shot multiple rockets with a shield, etc....

It was a dream come true for somebody like me who loves to mix and match.

So any fan of Borderlands 2 here can confirm its a more fun and better a game and BL2?

I have a platinum trophy on Borderlands 2. Loved the game but Destiny is going to blow it away.

Although there's one thing I like about Borderlands that Destiny didn't do very well in alpha and that's the loot drops. In Destiny, bosses didn't drop anything for me to pick up. I demand loot drops!

I see what you mean, I just didn't think the skill tree was that fantastic, personally. There's still ability upgrades in Destiny which is similar to the skill tree in Borderlands, only I like it better (but it is possibly the one thing that is simpler in Destiny). All of the weapon/armor upgrades seem superior in Destiny, though.

If anyone wants dibs on withdrawal thread 2, just send me a picture of you playing Halo4 multiplayer. Also, in the OT you must state that Halo4 is the best Halo game and the best Bungie game.

Well armors weren't a thing for borderlands and weapons were more about luck of the draw. But I'm a fan on customization. Transistor was my goddess.

I am sorry with this ot here, but I have problems pairing the headset wit ps4.Dongle is in. Anyone had problems or what were the steps you took to connect it? Thanks a bunch

I wonder how many of Dax's posts are the word "No" or some variation.

Also oh god, one of the few times I'm in the top 10. The shame.

Is it giving you an error, or is it just not reading it? For reference, mine was plug and play. Plugged in the dongle, and then turned on the switch on the left side of the headset.

Has there been any word on cross-gen play yet? Will PS4 and PS3 players be able to join up and play coop together? Or XB1 and 360 players? Since Bungie announced there's not split screen coop, I'm trying to find a way for me and my wife to still play together. Unfortunately buying two PS4s isn't in the budget right now, so I'm hoping maybe Bungie and Sony/MS have worked out something to mix populations within their respective ecosystems.

I'm in the same position. GF wants to play at the same time but that's not justification enough to buy another PS4. Bungie said no BUT... there is a thread on Bungie and a petition on change to convince them to add it. Bungie said if enough of the community gets together they might. (Correct me if wrong - i believe one of their tweets said that.)

If you still have a last Gen system you can play the pre-sequel of Borderlands with her, comes out like maybe a month after?

If you don't have the old system pick up the new Diablo 3 for some couch co-op with her

Even if they decide to add it, you could be waiting a long time for it so don't put too much hope in it for the short term. Best to plan accordingly.

Dear GAF,

I generally dig snipers, assassins, magic users; essentially anything that favours mobility, skills and cunning over brute strength. I've only played as the hunter so far. Should I stick with that or would one of the other classes suit me better?

I would stick with hunter sounds like its right up your alley

no matter how inferior they are compared to the titan masterclass

Warlock, of course. Space magic + teleporting. Hunter gets a boring gun and triple jump. Warlock is obviously the best choice. The other classes might as well not exist.

SPACE MAGIC!

Arg. You both make compelling arguments. Perhaps I'll test drive Warlock during the beta, and see how it stacks up against my previous thoughts as a Hunter.

Tune in, drop out, play all three classes erryday.

No, nothing official and i don't think this will happen.

Thank you all for the replies. Well, I'll let her play on my account during the beta and see what she thinks. She might open up to getting a second PS4.

Unfortunately, the gunplay in Borderlands 2 felt...off when we tried it. Some of that could be PS3 controller vs 360 controller (tried playing it on PS3), or even the PS3 itself. That and the game gave us both headaches and motion sickness. As to Diablo3, she didn't enjoy the demo on the 360 much, but that could partly be due to the graphics. Right now we're sticking with Uncharted 3 and Spartan Ops.

Oh well. It is what it is.

If the Warlock's first subclass gets the blink ability we are seeing that the Hunter's second class get I will consider having a Warlock. But right now it is Hunter (Bladedancer subclass), then later Warlock (first subclass). This is going to be great.

Rent the ps4 version using ps now on your ps4 and play with her on that.

Or go halfsies with her on a white ps4 bundle.

Hunter also gets teleporting and the real blink we all know. It has yet to be confirmed if the Warlocks "blink" is the same thing we have been seeing in videos. I say go with Hunter and look for the second subclass that utilizes the arc blades.

But why be a hunter when you can be a space sorcerer. Fucking throwing spells while shooting guns and seeing female guardians with moon boob physics as you high five your bros. Because that better be confirmed now.

Yes, but what if you *are* a female guardian with moon boob physics?!

(Can't wait to try out the arc blade Hunter super).

I'm excited to try out blink. As of right now, I can't imagine any of the jump abilities being better than the double (and triple!) jump, but I'll give it a shot.

Too flashy. Bladedancer Hunter is the best of them all. I hope the Beta let's us experience with the other subclasses but I doubt Bungie would want us to see everything in the game before it is released.

I really can't wait to hear more about the more support-oriented class builds. What do we know of so far?

I've maxed most of the characters in both Borderlands games and played through all but two of the expansions. I really like Borderlands.

But boy, the combat in Borderlands is pretty terrible on its own, and it only looks more dire when you compare it to an actual shooter. Destiny's combat is very strong - there aren't as many procedurally generated elements to the weapons, so you end up with guns that feel right, since they were actually designed, and AI that feels a lot like Bungie's other efforts, which were world-class. Outside the bosses, as long as you're properly leveled, at no point does it feel like the bog-standard high-level Borderlands loop of holding down the trigger and waiting for a health bar to go down.

When they say Destiny is first and foremost an action game, it seems like they really mean it. The shooting element could easily be divorced from the character progression and still be an excellent experience, which is basically the polar opposite of Borderlands. The character-building is less granular (you're not getting +% accuracy by using 1 of 70 skill points - in fact it doesn't expose most of its stats numerically at all), but more fitting for a shooter. There's also significantly less loot than Borderlands, which ends up resulting in a higher ratio of significant upgrades:trash loot - I've always felt like the billion-guns procedural element was interesting but seriously flawed in Borderlands because you get so much garbage compared to actual, meaningful upgrades. Since the weapons you'll be using most are hand-crafted (going from some of their previous statements), it feels more like a great standalone shooter with RPG elements layered on top, not a pure hybrid where one is 100% dependent on the other (and in the case of Borderlands, neither half is particularly great).

And hey, say what you will about the wizard from the moon line, but the writing in Destiny isn't so desperate to be funny that it spews internet memes verbatim every third line, which always rubbed me the wrong way about Borderlands (2 specifically).

Bang-on dude. Great write up

So the PS4 I ordered from CowBoom showed up today. I'm 19, and the UPS guy asks if my parents are home, because he thinks there's alcohol in the box. So I told him it's just a PS4, and he hands me one of those stickers you usually get when they showed up and you weren't home.

I haven't been doing anything today so I could wait for him and be here when he arrives.

I'm slightly pissed off right now. He's not coming back until Monday, and my Dad's literally never home in time for UPS.

That's really insulting! If I were you, and your name was on the shipping label, I'll call UPS and talk to his supervisor.

I see the discussion here. As someone who had a chance to play around with Blink pre-alpha It reminded me most of the Shadowrun teleport but without the ability to go through walls of course. It was actually pretty fun I thought.
AWWW WHAT! Well that sucks.
