But soccer or football, hockey, etc? Why not? You have 60-90 min to settle the game. Extra time then added until a winner is determined.

teams would just defend what they've got because they're tired and there's always a chance of getting hit on the counter. Penalties are more exciting anyway.

I see. That can make sense I guess. But at the same time, someone is going to have to score. And in a knockout stage, I'd think you'd want to get off the field so you're not as exhausted for the next game.

But that's a valid concern I think. I know in American football, you really don't see a conservative approach to overtime, though.

A) FIFA thought it would encourage positive play in extra time, but it really only led to teams parking the bus because they would much rather take it to penalties than definitely lose by conceding a goal.

B) It's such a back-breaking way to lose. Even pens have some sort anticipation to them, one moment of weakness and its a wrap in golden goal.

Exactly, force both team to be perfect in defense and especially in offensive so they don't give the counter attack. I always enjoyed Golden Goal because of that and because with Golden Goal there is a smaller chances to go to penaties witch I hate. But Golden Goal it's so nerve wracking.
