Official Destiny Alpha Withdrawal Thread

So speaking of Beta and retail who all is going with xbone? Sadly I have no choice. I had to get rid of a bunch of my consoles. I did manage to keep the xbone though. I really wish these companies would learn to play nice though and allow for cross platform play. It would do nothing but help both companies out because people then wouldn't have to choose a console in situations like this.

Cross-platform multiplayer between PS4 and Xbox One would be very cool, but near impossible (i guess).

As far as we know, who take care of Destiny's servers ? Bungie ? Activision ? Destiny 360/One are on specifics "Azure servers" (or whatever they're calling them, "cloud", etc) ?

Yeah it's pretty much impossible.. i don't know Sony's stance but i think Microsoft doesn't allow it.

There has been an exception with FFXI on the Xbox 360 though and i think i've read that Microsoft is considering to make an exception for FFXIV aswell.

From what I understand even the Xbone and 360 are on Bungie's own servers. It's mainly just that the platform holders just won't allow it. Also the segmented bases probably make it a bit of a pain because user names can overlap with the services. I'd love to see Skype come to PS4 also and then both consoles allow you to skype voice chat. That would at least allow you to be connected to friends cross platform even if it's just chat. Sadly since MS bought Skype I just don't see it ever coming to PS4. Hell The Xbone version doesn't even allow it to snap yet. Sony's probably would never allow it to run in background anyway even if it did come to PS4.

I'm guessing that being dropped off by your ship will be back in Beta. The feeling of being plopped in the world without context was a little awkward.

Hi everyone. How's the withdrawal going? Think there will be news on July 7th?

I think so. I think we'll probably get a sneak look at what the beta will consist of. Wouldn't be surprised to find out about any sort of collectors edition if there is one. Maybe some small things like that.

Approved - Welcome to

I just watched some of the clips I saved from the alpha and it made me remember how awesome the Mass Effect style disintegration effects are.

I don't know if I can make it till the 17th...hold me DestinyGaf.

So going off the update's hint to look at the beta site:

Q. How long will the Beta run for, and what do we get to play?

Truth be told, we’re still locking down the final details as we speak, dotting the t’s and cross-mapping the i’s. Most of the big rocks are in place, but if you have an eye for detail (and I am told that our community does) then you’ve likely already picked up on some of the clues “carefully hidden” away at http://www.destinythegame.com/beta.

It looks like four PVP maps and then old Russia for the destination. Maybe a strike with Rixis or one if his mates as the boss.

I'm hoping if it is old Russia, that some of those darkened doorways are open now and the level cap is a little higher so I can clear out the Grotto.

I am looking forward to beta. I know I like the titan. In beta I am going to give hunter and warlock a go.

I went Hunter in the alpha and really loved it, but I'm not sure what I'm gonna roll in the beta. I'm gonna wait and see what skill trees will be available. I really want to try out a support class with team health regeneration skills, etc.

I leveld up all the classes to level 8 to try them all.

I liked the Warlock the best as i liked the powers, and grenade more. I liked the hunter the least though.

Mösting (crater)

Mösting is a small lunar crater that is located in the southeastern fringes of the Mare Insularum. The ruined crater Sömmering lies to the northwest. To the southeast is the large crater-bay of Flammarion. Mösting has a terraced inner wall and a small central hill at the midpoint of the floor.

To the south-southeast lies the bowl-shaped Mösting A. This small feature formed the fundamental location in the selenographical coordinate system. It was defined as having the following coordinates:

Latitude: 3° 12' 43.2" South
Longitude: 5° 12' 39.6" West

Later the coordinate system became even more precisely defined using the Lunar Laser Ranging Experiment.

We're going to the Moon.

Actually, this seems to be the background for the entire site, so it isn't specifically linked to the beta. So it might still mean nothing.

Still, we're on NeoGAF; BELIEVE!

There's some other numbers in the background, but I don't think they're significant as they don't seem to be coordinates.

From the Bungie forum, quoting a part of a post from a user named M1Silencer:

"Those numbers:
48941651948
9416519

and the coordinates 3 degrees 12' 43.2" South, which seems to be the coordinates of the Mosting A crater on the moon.

Back to the numbers though, if you look at them, the second number is just the first number without the 48 digits included.
48941651948
__9416519__
and if you look closely in the image, there seems to be an ellipses after the second number suggesting a third numer (or more) exist. So taking the 9 off of the ends leaves:

48941651948
__9416519__
___41651___
Those numbers adding up to 17, which is when the beta starts in July, but this is already information that we know, so there could be something else."

Pretty crazy hidden info and puzzles by Bungie.

Ok, I think that is going a bit too far. No reason to cut off numbers. Remaining numbers counting up to 17 is probably just a pure coincidence. Makes no sense for Bungie to 'hide' that in the background of the site when they've already announced the full date.

Maybe the image below hides something? It is only seen on the beta page. Does this match up to anything we've seen?

The center of it looks like it could be the outline of a map.. but if it is, it's not a map that we've seen yet. It doesn't match up with Russia or Venus.

I'm not sure if it actually is anything either but i think those numbers were available before we knew the beta date.

And if not i still enjoy people speculating and trying to find pieces of a puzzle.

Regarding your question: I have no idea.

Detective GAF giving Sherlock a run for its money?! Oh, yes! Who knows what other secrets are in there?!

Is it sad that I still have yet to delete the alpha client from my PS4? I know they'll most likely roll out a new beta client but heh.

I'm actually quite sure that the second background image (without the numbers) is going to end up being an outline to one of the maps. While Bungie may not be trying to hint anything at us with it, they've certainly used their art assets like that in the past with Destiny.

Wait was Dax legitimately mad? I assumed it was just a facade.

I don't think she was mad in general, just at me. Seems i have been inconsiderate towards her more than once and some of my jokes have not been understood or have been found in bad taste.

Thing is that i wasn't even joking when i started about the VoG thing, it was a pretty serious prediction. Wouldve have probably been better if i did not make it but that is in hindsight so yeah.

Since we already determined Warlock is the best class, let's talk about weapons.

Which three-weapon combination is the best on each of the two maps we played?

Earth - AR, Shotty, Rockets
Moon - Pulse, Snipes, LMG

Up until 2 or 3 pages back we were still swimming along peacefully.

Then shit got weird when Brohan started being MMO-element discussions into the thread.

Yeah.. i probably shouldn't have gone so in depth about the darker and stranger side of MMO's. So sorry about weirding up the thread with that.

That all sounds incredibly dumb, especially the "vag" part. (Really?)

Text boxes in MMOs are often small, so things have to be shortened. It's confusing at first, but after a while everyone gets caught up. It's kinda cool seeing what new lingo is born out of new expansions. This one MMO I used to play had numbers censored because people would give out phone numbers and addresses in chat. So one became "won", two became "too", three became "tree", "fore", "hive", "fix", "sven", "ate", "vine", "tin" and so on. Was kinda funny when I'd start to notice myself misspelling the numbers outside of the game. Anyway, despite the obvious similarities, Destiny doesn't step far enough into the "MMO" territory for those kind of things to wind up in the game.

As for the Raid end-game thing, I don't understand why people are so concerned with this. There's a Story mode, exploration mode, PvP mode, and strike modes and there are plenty of them across several different worlds. Games with much less have been played for a long time, so even if the game only has one Raid at launch (or just the one entirely), the game will still last a long time, or at least long enough until the first expansion just a year later.

I've been saying that the amount of content in Destiny is almost overwhelming, and then here people are saying that it's not enough....sigh

Based on Explore:

Pew Pew Pew in primary slot for the combination of range, accuracy and damage.
Either Boom Tsjktsjk Boom or Kapew Kapew Kapew for secondary slot depending on what kind of threat you're dealing with.
Blaggablaggablagga for special slot because BLAGGABLAGGABLAGGA.

Nah, I don't do drugs.

IMO, for Crucible, Auto Rifle ( or Pewpewpewpewpewpew ) was the best primary on the Earth map, definitely, with shotgun for secondary and Rocket Launcher ( Kaboom ) for special. Didn't get to play a lot on the Moon map, but I guess that would be skewed towards longer range weapons.

Rusted Lands: Auto Rifle, Shotgun, Rockets
First Light: Auto/Scout Rifle, Sniper, Rockets

That's what I used.

As for class, Hunter/Titan were best on Rusted Lands and Warlock was best on First Light. Golden Gun and FIst of Havok aren't as good against vehicles as the Nova Bomb, and Glide helped with avoiding splatters.

I found the LMGs to be pretty useless compared to the rocket launchers, personally. But maybe I just need to get better at fighting their recoil. And I used the AR on both maps. The poor accuracy at long range was an issues sometimes, but not often. Also: remember that we're able (as of the Alpha) to go into our inventory and switch weapons mid-match. I would find myself switching to a Scout Rifle in the middle of matches on First Light sometimes.

Also, I'm terrible at sniping, so I never bothered with the sniper rifles, lol.
