Official Destiny Alpha Withdrawal Thread

I just read that certain enemies will be vulnerable to certain weapons with elemental damage buffs (I assume the same is true for elemental abilities).

Was there any such vulnerabilities in the Alpha? Because I clearly missed that mechanic and I want to make sure to take advantage of it for the beta. How do we know which enemies are vulnerable to what?

There had better be at least one Hive Wizard or a Warlock that's named after a Harry Potter character.

But Dust Palace is exclusive PS4 content? Why would it be in the Beta?

Unless it was to tease all the non-PS4 users with what they can't have... :P

The strike is exclusive, the open world exploration portion of it probably isn't.

Where did you read that? I've played the game more than probably almost anyone, and I didn't know such a thing existed. I didn't notice anything.

Then again, I wasn't looking for it, so I can't say for sure for it's not in the game. It would make sense for different elements to harm certain enemies more. Before now I just assumed there were different elements because enemies died differently from them.

It was speculation made by Datto, that the various Elemental types of both the Guardians' abilities and the weapons work have a +/- DMG effect on enemies with different coloured shields. I'm trying to find the right video, since it was mentioned within another topic (maybe Datto himself can elaborate?)

If the element changes do different damages depending on what enemy you use them against, I'm hoping there's an accompanying audio-visual cue in how the enemies react. I kinda don't want to have to look at damage numbers to see what does what. A little too tedious for me.

You've got the coloured Elemental logo next to each weapons Damage number in the menu, and there's supposed to be corresponding coloured numbers to identify what kind of damage you're doing while in combat.

What I'd like is secondary effects: being able to set enemies on fire after enough fire damage, shock/stun with Arc weapons and maybe something like miniature black holes from Void weapons to hold enemies in place?

I initially thought that is what it does - similar to what Mass Effect 2/3 ammo types did except the ammo type was tied to the gun (like cryo rounds having a certain % chance of freezing enemies). While these ammo types in Destiny do have an effect, it looks to be mostly behind the scenes rather then seeing any kind of direct visual effect.

Maybe

Solar: Burned; Enemy can still attack and move, but takes damage over time
Arc: Stunned; Enemy cannot attack or move, but takes no damage
Void: Stasis; Enemy cannot move and takes damage over time, but can still attack

Vortex Grenade at least already holds enemies in place.

Exactly what I was imagining as well.

What we're hoping for, yes.

Not surprising really, but here we go - Destiny looking to be coming to PC.

Original post was on Bungie.net, but it seems that Interweb Detectives have found listings within the Steam database for Destiny, leading people to believe that the game is indeed coming to PC and that Bungie are just trying to get the console versions out of the way before dropping the PC version on gamers.

The number of sites reporting on the updated Dinklage voice acting is kind of insane. Destiny thirst is real.

Not surprising. I always figured it would. I'll pick up PC version too. lol

From your first link...

Destiny is scheduled to launch on Playstation 4, Xbox One, PS3 and Xbox 360 on September 9, 2013.

So does anybody know if the beta registration thing at Bungie will allow us to get a beta code for more than one platform? =P

Kinda wanted to try it on both X1 and PS4. I'm sure PS4 will be the definitive version, but I dunno who on my friend's lists will be available more.

PS4 will be the definitive version, but I think you need a 2nd preorder code registered on Bungie.net to get a 2nd beta download.

Makes sense. Not sure if Amazon would send me another code if I pre-ordered again or not. Guess it'd be worth a try.

Strange how it's only being reported today yet Bungie told everyone in the news update last month.

Hey, we read the same forums, my fictional, question formulating friend! In fact, the Ghost dialog has already been updated for Beta. It will be updated again for launch on September 9th, as well.

I don't think news outlets have a habit of reading the Weekly Update. A lot of info on Destiny that was in there hasn't been reported on. Like the $500 Million dollar budget that was spread out over 10 years. They mentioned that in the weekly update forever ago, but the media kept saying that Destiny had a budget of $500 million, just for one game.

Can anyone recommend any Destiny alpha youtube walkthroughs that don't have annoying commentary? It can have commentary just not the annoying type where the person is trying to be funny or feel the need to tell their life story instead of just talking about the game.

i have entered 2 beta codes and that put a 2 in parentheses under the beta reservation thing on my redeemed codes thing not sure if that means i get 2 codes though

Time flies when you have food poisoning, the beta is nearly here!

Nice to be posting here again. I'll need to catch up.

CLASSES BLINK. NO. ONLY WARLOCK. NO, MAYBE ALL OF THEM. HYPE THREAD VACUUM 3000 OR SOMETHING. ELEMENTAL EFFECT (ARC, SOLAR, VOID) DISCUSSION.

Bam, you're caught up.

Just over 2 weeks to go for the Beta! What's everyone playing in the meantime?
I'm in an indie mood today and bought Valiant Hearts: The Great War, Transistor and Child of Light and plan on playing them back to back. I don't know in what order though... Any advice?

I approve of this post, despite there being no mention of my little easter egg hunt.

You forgot

My god, you're right. Forgive me DestinyGAF, for I have sinned.

Gah, damn it I forgot that too. SORRY THAT MY MEMORY IS SKEWED TOWARD CONVERSATIONS I PARTICIPATED IN MORE, but rest assured I read every syllable.

And hm... I love Child of Light and Transistor, but I think Transistor is a bit better, and only because Child of Light's dialog is hit or miss. I love poetry probably a lot more than a lot of people, but sometimes Child of Light's rhyme is so forced it hurts. I haven't played Valiant Hearts though.
