Vertonghen went all the way. Mad respect for him.

My man. Hope he'll come back to Ajax one day.

Not sure what everyone is going on about. I thought USA played like crap for most of the match. :(
It felt like they constantly lost the ball which produced more chances for Belgium but according to FIFA.com statistics they had a higher pass completion rate. I guess passing the ball out of play doesn't count as a pass attempt.
The only reason they went into overtime was the badassery that is Tim Howard.
Man of the match for sure.
On Belgiums side De Bruyne played a great match. I was pissed that he scored but he definitely earned it that day and his gesture when he accidentally kicked the ball at someones face was good sportsmanship. Very fair player.
27 vs 9 attempts on target... Man, after keeping it 0:0 until the very end my hopes grew that USA could score a lucky goal and end it.
I think the saltiness has worn off now. Great effort by team USA. Hopefully this has made more people aware of this sport so we can come back with an even stronger team next time around.
Back to rooting for my other nationality, Germany.

I love Dutch, its so funny. Especially when girls talk it.
I was just messing. It sounds weird for an English speaker. It doesn't sound totally foreign. Its like I can understand some sounds then it turns really foreign sounding then back to familiar
It's going to be so great when the Netherlands lose another final.
Yes it will be
Effing Americans watching football for the first time. Good thing that's over. Now for some Costa Rekta and we're also through with the Concagaf malarkey.
Drunk stupid fans are totally a US only thing.

Everything is better when the US fans get involved.

It's like having a family get together where there's that one cousin who likes to play on his own and not join in with the rest of the kids.

And then he finally comes and joins in the fun and gets into the spirit of things and makes up cute little chants and posts Eagle pictures and for that short, beautiful period of time, he is one of us.

And then when he loses, he goes off back on his own again to occupy himself by playing his own little made up games like NFL, Baseball and competitive eating.

He played a very good match, his first for a long time. That goal against Korea really seems to have given him a lift, he wasted the last year of his life just jogging around the pitch.

While the end was a real thriller, the US was lucky not to have lost with 5:0 at the end of the 90 minutes. Exeptional drive from Belgium.

Belgium were lucky not to lose 1-0 in the 93rd minute.

GG Belgium ! Now pleaaaaaaase try and beat Argentina to erase the memory of 1986 when we got our asses kicked by Maradona in the semi's.

I was young at the time but still vividly remember seeing Maradona dribbling our defense into oblivion in that match producing one of the greatest pics in football:

Could history repeat itself with Messi taking his place ? Seriously doubt it..

It took a goalkeeping performance not seen in half a century to keep them in a game. Belgium was on another level and Tim Howard was the only US team member that joined them on that level.

Sure but it was enough to get that match-winning chance. They showed fantastic grit, a squad with so many average players made Belgium work like dogs.

Also Howard was not the only good performer, USA defenders were all superb and Yedlin looked excellent when he came on.

38 attempts 27 on goal is superb? You're judging the game with your heart instead of your mind. The effort can't be denied but let's call a spade a spade.

The funny part is how they didn't get which dive he was talking about (but if foreign media doesn't explain that, or even exaggerate it for the hype it only gets worse). He was probably not N-American though. As long as we don't underestimate our opponent and we don't get particularly unlucky we will likely win it. We're destined to defeat Argentina in the semi's and France in the finals. And we will get that cup this time.

Fixed it for you.

Seriously though it would be nice to get what should've been the final in 98. The dutch had a great team that year and only lost to Brazil in the semis on penalties. Plus, as a gamer, Blue vs Orange is just pure awesomeness.

We're talking about players who would struggle to get into a second division side in England. So yes, they were fantastic. They were playing against world class European players and put in some brilliant tackles and interceptions.

Belgium dominated the game and earned their win fair and square, but the US did brilliantly. Their players were so inferior talent-wise but they did enough to win the game if Wondolowski had scored. Chelsea won a Champion's League playing worse football that the USA last night.

Wasn't that falsely called an offside, though? If he had scored and they would have falsely taken away the goal I would have stopped watching soccer until they implemented a challenge system to important tournaments.

But effort is one thing. Quality is another. They tried hard and hustled but the defenders were totally outdone and Tim Howard saved them time after time.

No, it was going to be a goal if he made it.

So no games today and tomorrow and I hope germany uses the time to analyse all of there mistakes (or maybe just analyse half of the mistakes...)

But I still got hope we will beat France :)

Apparently that wasn't called offside, the linesman just pointed for a goal kick which some commentators misread as an offside flag. If he had scored it would have counted.

As a Dutch guy, I have to say Flemish > Dutch. Just listen to this girl <3

You're all wrong, French accent is le plus beau.
More seriously though, I'm a bit ashamed about my Dutch/Flemish understanding. In fact I understand shit despite the fact that I live at the border.
And why does some Belgians keep speaking flemish when they see I'm lost is beyond me, especially when I hear them speak french as soon as I turn my back. I guess I made my way to Troll City

I'm pretty happy with the way we played today. Not necessarily in terms of stats (well, outside of Howard saving just about everything), but we played with a lot of spirit and put in a great showing during this World Cup. Of course, as a Chelsea fan, it hurt pretty bad that Lukaku was involved in both goals. He does everything for every team he plays for except the one I care about. smh

Yeah, because Chelsea has shown him all the love and given him plenty of chances, amirite?

Just watched the game on ESPN3 replay. Just realized when they put 1 minute up in the 120th for stoppage time you could actually hear Klinnsman say "1 minute?! where the fuck does 1 minute come from?!"

Klinnsman fails to realize that this is 1 minute overtime on 15 minutes (second half extra time) of playtime. Which equates to 3 minutes for an entire half period. The first 15 minutes of overtime, they already got 2 minutes of overtime. After the regular 90 minutes, they already got 3 minutes of overtime, and after the first regular half, they got 2 minutes of overtime. Meaning 8 minutes of total overtime.

Maybe they mistake you for a Walloon that refuses to speak Dutch to them?

Though Belgium pretty much is Troll Country

edit: wasn;t paying attention, my initial post didn't make sense

Being banned from GAF during the WC is the worst thing ever :( I missed a lot of great moments in the last two weeks.

Stupid question, but when you get banned on GAF, is it impossible to even get on the site, or does it just prevent you from making posts/threads?

Klinnsmann swears in English ? Why would he do that, when it's so much more effective in German ?

The referee wouldn't be able to understand him, if he swore in German :p

Haha, I did get the point though. I think that's the reason but the french-french accent and belgian-french are slightly different , and I often stay in my car which is registered in France , but meh. Now I trick them and speak english , it saves much more time.

@Americans, is there a tangible sense that football is becoming more popular for casual fans in the States, tournament on tournament?

Can imagine the awesomeness of this World Cup, and dramatic USA matches is getting people more interested
