I see we have another Nottingham Forest fan in the thread

Have you watched argentina's first division or the brasileirao? Almost all teams have shown a pathetic level of football in the last few years. Most specifically in argentina,of the last 8 champions of the first divion maybe 2 of them were not horrendous. Although, since every one is so terrible, there is a lot of competion since the line between small and big teams are no longer so evident.

Yes, plenty. Many times more exciting than the borefest that played in England.

Sadly, thats what happens when the economy is poor.

The fact that Maxi Rodriguez is Player of the Year in the Argentine Primera is prime example of how far South American football has fallen.

EDIT: oh and 'Dinho at Minero. Much as I love 'Dinho, there's a reason he couldn't cut it at the top flight in Europe anymore.

As a spectator it's easy to say that team or that player is terrible. Until the point where you would be stood on the pitch. I don't think any player can be considered terrible when he plays in first or even Second division. Lol at the superlatives being thrown on here.

I really want a new champion this year. Holland/Colombia/Belgium pls.
Columbia or Costa Rica for me.

Would be disappointed if Germany clanked their way to victory.

Despite having a couple of (world class) Arsenal players, they have been torrid to watch.

No worries. We kick'em out this friday. *cough*
In regards to France, it's crazy how much more likable you are without Ribery & Nasri.

Griezmann, in particular, has been my favourite.

He will be astounding for whatever team he joins this summer (or next).

My predictions

Colombia
- Have beaten all their oponnents with ease, they have an inspired James plus a very good team overall. Brazil is basically Neymar+10, they had a lot of luck against Chile.
France
- Has looked solid overall and also it looks like they can score when they want, Germany looked pretty bad against Algeria, very shaky in the back.
Belgium
-Solid at the back, very talented and a very even team in every line, plus they have a great keeper. Argentina has looked bad in every match, very shaky defense, Switzerland should've scored at least two in the first half alone. Messi alone won't save them this time.
Netherlands
- Based on the last performance from both teams, this should be easy for Netherlands, i still expect them to defend most of the match and win it by the end like they did agains't Spain,Chile and Mexico. It seems like their strategy is let the oponents have the ball and save their energy for the second half and sof ar it has worked for them.
Costa Rica looked good in the group stage against teams with slow attacking players. Greece put them in a lot of trouble, GREECE.

They showed Kahn talking about the Belgian team on tv here... Great to hear his compliments.

They also showed a montage of our chances and Howard's saves, what a crazy game.

I'd like an upset, though if Belgium nabs it on their first try then stick a fork in it we're done. Might as well abolish the kingdom of the Netherlands because it will never recover.

brazil - think they're being a bit underrated. they had the toughest opponents in the round, didn't really play any worse than the other contenders and were a bit unlucky not to go through in 90 mins. they're not outstanding but the team is well balanced. colombia very exciting but yet to play a top team and if neymar made the chilean center backs look like tanks at times rip yepes.
france - france are better suited being a reactive side imo, especially with griezmann hopefully replacing giroud, and i think they can punish loew's tiki-taka garbage much better than algeria
belgium - argentina really suck
netherlands - netherlands have such a patchy squad but face the easiest opponent and van gaal is a wizard. robben and van persie should finish costa rica off.

LOL is this a joke? Suarez had two chances and put them both away. Rooney should have scored on a header and another time when he sent it right to the keeper from close range. But he scored his first and only World Cup goal in 12 years on an easy tap-in where others did all the work, and he should be man of the match according to WhoScored... if he had actually done his job they would have won.

FIFA got it right, no one for England deserved man of the match in any game. All three games, was this determined by deluded England fanboys? You'd almost think they didn't lose to two teams that both lost to Costa Rica to go out after just two games, and then manage a 0-0 tie against an opponent that was already through afterwards.

Rooney was 7.96 for the match and Suarez was 7.93. Just looking at the statistics you can see why Rooney got such a score. Better pass accuracy, more dribbles completed, more chances created and so forth.

As I have no idea how the Netherlands - Costa Rica will end (I can totally see Costa Rica winning) I'm hoping our boys in Orange will win it. It's been a crazy ride for us, let's make it even crazier.

As for the other matches:

Brazil - Colombia: You know, I don't what's going to happen here. Brazil has a decent team, but can be beaten. Colombia seems strong and can play one hell of a game, but I've seen their ugly side in a friendly against Oranje. If they can't win, they'll resort to thuggery. I really hope they won't display that kind of stuff during the WC though. I'm going with Brazil. Just because.

France - Germany: Another thoughy; both teams seem balanced, but Germany is using a weird style for their play. Lahm is one of the best backs in the world and Low is fucking drowning him. Still, never count out the Germans. Everybody is bitching on Ozil, but it wouldn't surprise me one bit he'd be the guy knocking out the Frenchies. On the French side they seem pretty good offensively: Benzema and Pogba are amazing and they seem rather balanced. They do seem... harsh while making challenges. And there is some thuggery in that team. Giroud is a cunt. Might be a weakness the Germans can exploit. So, I'd say Germany.

Argentina - Belgium: Argentina is a weird team. They haven't impressed me, but Messi is getting into that groove man. And if Messi is on fire... you're fucked. The Belgians finally played a great match against the USA, but all those shots missing the target... that could be an issue. So I'm going with Messitina.

So, Brazil, Germany, Argentina and I'm really, really hoping the Netherlands.

Sorry Ticos.

Man, I'm gonna be rooting for Colombia on friday. Think about it, with Brazil gone, Brazilians will have to choose who to root for:

They won't choose Colombia, since they would've eliminated Brazil.
They hate Argentina so that's not an option either.
They won't root for an european team.

Costa Rica to get full support of 100% of Brazil confirmed.

I actually like to root for those who beat us. I was rooting for France in 2006, for example.

At least afterwards we can say "Hey, it was the champion who beat us".

But it won't happen.

Still, I'm already rooting for Costa Rica to reach the final.

Only one european team will make it to the semis.

That'd be delicious. I even kind of want Argentina to win because a Brazil-Argentina final on Maracanã, with Neymar vs. Messi, would be one of the most epic events in football history.

This is one of very few world cups where I DON'T see a very powerful team.

Last World Cup Spain, Netherlands and even Germany were stacked and seemed like finely tuned machines. Especially after Spain got that L out of the way. France was dope when they won it with Zidane and the WC after it. This year, everyone looks good or great, but they don't look to steamroll anyone. I guess parity is here.
