Giant Bomb #8 | It's a Hit!

Giant Bomb has always been the worst site for stealth games. Patrick and Vinny are the only ones that actually enjoy them at all and they're still pretty bad. The only stealth games Jeff likes are barely stealth games and I guess Dan is the same. Pretty sure I didn't agree with Brad either but I don't remember exactly. I don't know if Drew likes them at all.

I would put my house on it that over 90% were.

You'd lose your house then because the statistics show that almost 50% of people who regularly play and buy games are women.

Depends on whether you count mobile and Facebook games as games. Technically they are, but they are worlds apart when it comes to discussions and analysis.

I would be interested in reading up on these statistics. In all seriousness do you really think 50% of woman watch and read Giant Bomb?

Well I obviously don't just mean Giant Bomb's audience but it wouldn't surprise me if the ratio of women watching lets plays and the like on youtube isn't much lower.

I say that we all band together and chip in a bit each to buy Rorie a little mini beer/soda fridge for his desk as a thank you for all the work he had to put in these past few days.

But the temperature setting is locked to 45...mwahahaha!

Damn these mini fridges are slick as hell. I'd chip in for that puppy-chomper.

There are still stealth games?

Also, they all loved that 2d ninja game as far as i remember.

Well they specifically referenced Blacklist, which is a pretty stealth focused game, more so than Conviction (which both of them said they preferred). Last Light is also a fairly recent game in which stealth is one of the major mechanics. A new Thief came out recently, too. Wasn't Dishonored also a stealth game?

I'd be happy to contribute to that. Is there one shaped like a puppy?

I was pretty sure that in Blacklist you could play it exactly like Conviction if you wanted to. It has the last seen position thing, it has the mark and execute thing, you can move with that panther style, etc. Made me confused when Dan/Jeff were talking like Blacklist was a step back or something.

I think part of GB's general negativity about most games just comes from having too many games to play in too little time. They can't enjoy games the way they used to. And it's probably been worse over the last few years at Giant Bomb. I could see the new hires giving them some breathing room and letting them enjoy games again.

My idea is to basically get one of these, and have it delivered to the GB offices. Although I don't know if I can order it from Amazon US, being based in the UK. Thoughts?

Even if 10 people each put in $5, we have enough to send it there. I wonder if we can get Amazon to gift wrap it + put a note on there from us, so it doesn't feel weird.

Edit: they totally do that - http://www.amazon.com/gp/gift-central/help/gift-wrap

I was shaking my head
(smh lol)
when they both said Conviction is the only Splinter Cell game they liked. These guys are lunatics.

Amazon ships anywhere, whatever country you order from, so ordering on Amazon US from the UK shouldn't be a problem.

The description says it cools 32 degrees below ambient temperate. So if the office is a cool 70 degrees, it will reach up to 38 degrees. Is that cold enough?

Put me down as another person who would chip in for that, providing we get a good quality cooler.

I could take part of this with 5$ or something. Should we list names who wants to be part with this and then see if we could get enough money for some good cooler and shipping.

I'd be willing to chip in, but 4 stars or bust :p

Yeah you can. It's pretty much the best middle ground, you can play it stealthily or as a shooter (unless the mission design calls for one approach specifically), and if you choose stealth you generally don't have to restart if you fuck up.

Yeah I really didn't like that game. I rushed through the last sections spamming grenades and gunning everyone down just to get it over with.

E: That fridge says it has a quieter fan, but I wonder if it really is all that quiet. The mini fridge we have at home is noticeable loud when it's on in a fairly quiet room.

You set up something an Aussie can contribute to and I'm in V_Ben. Some mutual PayPal or whatever. Just let me know and I'll throw in whatever is needed to make this happen.

I'd pitch in too, but I think we need to be funny about it. maybe a comedic sticker to slap on it?

edit: Oh! How about something that looks like a pc case but is actually a fridge? do those exist??

You guys just want Rorie to be drunk all the time, don't you?

Besides, wouldn't having a mini-fridge at your desk defeat the purpose of saving electricity by keeping the Coke cooler at 48 degrees?

Yeah, we need something like this. Those peltier mini fridges are garbage and barely keep your drinks below ambient.

I think GAF can afford it. It's 15 people chipping in a tenner.

Well alright, if people are happy to kick in however much they feel they can, we'll see what we're left with at the end of the day, and that'll dictate what kind of fridge we can go for :)

I can put in $10
