Biggest crow a developer has served this past gen?

Sometimes when news hits the wire we don't react all that positively. Often we immediately jump to a conclusion (like X game is ruined). In reality that isn't always the case and I think a lot of crow has been served this past generation. I remember when people heard about Mass Effect 3's multiplayer they freaked out but when it came out everyone loved it. That just got me thinking what's the biggest and best Crow you've seen served this past generation?

Probably this one

Oh I'd say Killzone 2

after that trailer debacle they really did get awfully close, all things considered

DmC ended up being a lot of goddamned fun.

Demon's Souls. A lot of people discounted it as janky and weird pre-release, only for it to go on and become one of the most important games of last gen.

I remember a lot of people making fun of Batman AA, and it turned out to be completely amazing. Though a superhero game by a relatively unknown developer doesn't seem like a recipe for success.

I think a good number of people dismissed Sonic and All-Star Racing Transformed before it released. Something something cash-in, sell-out, etc.

I thought this game only existed so they could sell you a Halo 3 Beta.

Ended up being better than Halo 3 and some of the most pure fun I had all generation.

Demons Souls is a good one although it wasn't exposed to the community at large.

I would say TLOU got a lot of flack pre release, articles popped up about "no more zombie games please", it was called derivative and played out, then it dominated GOTY awards.

Demon's Souls easily. I remember people making fun of the demo that was shown off because of how clunky it looked and the low framerate but something about it captured me and I imported the english language version from Hong Kong when the game launched. Best decision ever. It was my first import too.

Monolithsoft with Xenoblade. A lot of people shit talked it when it debuted as Monado, especially the graphics. Turned out amazing and does some awesome technical stuff to achieve its look.

Killzone 2. That game was absolutely gorgeous. I loved the gameplay too, but after all the heat they took over the CGI, they at least nailed the visuals.

Delsin in Second Son

I really hate how Gaf just rips games apart before playing the,. There were pages and pages of people hating Delsin, and after a lot of people talk about how great he was.

Being inferior to its predecessors and selling worse than all of them qualifies as serving crow now?

DmC is the opposite of the topics premise. Naysayers said that the game would be worse than prior entries because it was likely to be dumbed down and pointed out numerous serious flaws with the game prior to release. All of these flaws ended up making it into the final release, the game was dumbed down, and it sold the worst of any entry in the series. The only way DmC would have served to actually count as serving crow is to the folks championing it prior to release.

Uncharted 2 Multiplayer.

It was amazing to see people's reaction when they announced it. Then a few weeks after the release.

Crackdown wasn't "crow served" though, no one knew about it — it was just a surprise hit.

People will argue into the ground DmC is a good game so its best to stick to the simple answer: It sold worse than DMC 4. Thats all you have to say. It sold worse. The reboot failed. Done. You cant refute the fact it sold worse.

I'm confused. I thought something being crow was shit.

"I'll eat crow." = "I'll eat shit."

Have I been wrong this whole time?

I remember it was Gamescon and the journalists started to play it and they were sorta losing their shit. Before that, crackdown was a laughingstock.

Xenoblade. I remember it getting shit when it was first revealed, and now it's considered one of the best RPGs of last gen.

have to agree with either God of War 3 or Batman AA. Batman really didn't have a ton of hype for it before gameplay was shown, though yeah it was dismissed out of hand by everyone before that first glimpse of gameplay blew everyone away.

God of War 3, Sony SM really hyped up a bit before the first gameplay was shown, and the first screens were definitely controversial. When the game not only lived up to those screens but, as others have said, was never really surpassed for the rest of the gen... well played Santa Monica, well played....

edit - not sure about Super Mario Galaxy... can't really remember where sentiment lay right before that, though I can't imagine very high coming off of popular opinion of Mario Sunshine.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a pretty big one. The original game is held to an impossibly high standard by the PC elite, and HR is the sequel to the almost universally reviled Invisible War. But it turned out pretty great in the end.

You don't even need to say it sold worse than DMC4

Just say it sold worse than everything else.

Yeh this. Press/internet comments from its first showing were really disparaging and I don't really blame them, just looked clunky and low budget. How were we to know. It's like when Jesus was a baby he probably looked like every other baby, probably worse because he was in a shed when he was born.

This one is pretty big. Good call.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

After Invisible War, nobody expected the next game in the series to be good, let alone great. Then people played the beta and were wowed by it.
