Lacks the power of instantaneous movement
Summer is here and all of us at FitGaf have been putting in work! We have a core group that supports and pushes each other to accomplish our goals. These goals differ from individual to individual. For some the name of the game is purely turning out the best physique possible that your genetics and hard work allow. Others grind week after week in the hope to get that deadlift up 20 pounds to confirm that all this hard work has translated to a measureable gain in strength. Others have no desire for either but want to be all around healthier. Over the years many have transformed their body and subsequently their life.

The hope is to have this thread pop up all summer as people in FitGaf and others who don't participate show off their dedication and mental focus.

The more the merrier! Feel free to start your journey with us. :)

So with that in mind I will kick this thing off with an offer to the fitness gods as I bask in the sun!

This is a good idea, I move out at the start of next month and the plan is to take up jogging, not done much exercise for the past year since I stopped playing football and going to the gym.

Fit Gaf has quite literally changed my life.

Here I am in 2001. First day of high school. Fat and miserable and weighed well over 200lbs

My fitness journey didn't start until 2003. I began eating better and doing Dance Dance Revolution.

Then once I hit college, I started running a LOT. Like 1 hour a day a lot. I also did a 5 days a week split on the weights.

I got pretty thin. Like in the 150s, wearing small shirts and size 30 jeans.

Then grad school hit and I got stressed and lazy and put on 20+ pounds.

I decided to make a change again and focus more on lifting than running. I started my old split but here's the problem. I was weak. Extremely weak. I could barely bench 95 pounds with ease. I had a completely random routine and I'd jump from routine to routine.

So after discovering what I thought was a good routine I posted it on fitgaf in late 2011.

I was laughed at. I was called a beginner. I was told I had a shitty routine. Of course I got angry. How could I be a beginner!? I had been lifting so long.

But, the fact was in the numbers. I was extremely weak.

I swallowed my pride and I started Strong Lifts 5x5, a program focusing on squatting, deadlifting, overhead pressing and Benching. Start with the bar? Man, major ego check.

But as I consistently added weight, things got harder. And then you hit plateus and change things up. Then you become obsessed with making strength gains.

I've had a few setbacks in the past 2.5 years. My car was totaled by a teenager, I herniated a disc and spent 2 months in PT and most recently I had my appendix out and can't squat or deadlift for another 3 weeks on top of the 3 weeks I've been out of surgery, but I'll always come back. The goal is to continue getting bigger and stronger.

So, on the left I am 170ish, that's a medium size shirt. On the right I'm around 210, and that's an XL shirt. I like how my biceps in the before are smaller than my forearms now.

Thank you fit gaf. You're like my family now.

I'm going to make a preliminary post here. I've been lurking the fitness community thread for a bit and took some pictures early June. Look forward to posting progress here in a few months.

Great job Sean!!!

This is amazing, great change! You should be really proud :)

Do you mind if I ask how your diet changed over this time as well?

Prelim post as well. Fit-GAF got me in great shape and I saw great gains with their focus on Starting Strength and 5/3/1 programs last year. I unfortunately had to stop lifting until a month ago after a torn ACL.

I restarted a few weeks ago and hopefully I'll be back to my old self in about a year or so.

FitGAF is amazing.

I've still got a long way to go before I feel comfortable sharing any progress pics, however listening to fitGAF's advice of focusing on strength based programmes based around the key olympic lifts I've managed to put on 20-22 pounds of mostly muscle and got a hella lot stronger.

FitGAF is tough <3.

All the sweetie pies in there are giving you advices for your own good though. I am madly in love with each and every one of them! They keep me motivated and eager to gain more and more!

I posted these photos to FitGAF yesterday, but I will throw them to here as well. I will be getting some proper full body comparison later on.

On fall 2012 my back decided it doesn't love me anymore and since that I have had nerve pain reflecting to both of my legs. I started to do 10 minutes walks and some small core muscle training. I started jogging on April/May 2013 and pilates on August 2013. Later on autumn 2013 things turned way worse and even 5 minutes walk was a pain in the ass (also very literally) and I needed to stop basicly everything I was doing for months. I started to also eat strong painkillers daily that really fucked up my whole body (including for some time apparently also my thyroxine levels and my normal medication didn't fully work).

Early this year I was totally bloated and felt absolutely shitty - I was still determined to get better. I started to get back to things slowly and finally got a permission 11th of March from my physiotherapist to start weight training and going to gym (with machines, no free weights yet). I changed my diet and started to work out five days a week (2 x gym, 2 x jogging / nordic walking, 2 x pilates plus 2 x core muscle training and stretches daily). The back is getting better slowly and I am constantly feeling healthier.

When I was this week looking for glasses and taking photos of the frames, I noticed that there is actually changes compared to what I looked like earlier this year!

The one on the left is most likely the most horrid photo ever taken of me and it is from January 2014. The right one is from this week (early July 2014). (Not a fair comparison really, since the photos have been taken from different angles, in different light and so forth, but still.)

Them noob gainz. <3

EDIT: Updated the photos. Left ones are from late January 2014 and right ones are from early June 2014

This is a start of something extremely awesome! :D I can't wait to see myself after a year or two!

I have a feeling that this is going to be a legendary thread. Hopefully by next year I'll be able to post my non-noob gains and actually contribute

Cooter, you should book a photoshoot like yesterday.

GREAT WORK you and Sean and secret as well. Amazing shit! Love my boys.

I'll probably have some pics to share at the end of August mayhaps.

I haven't been frequenting FitGaf; However, I started following the 'Like the Hat? Weightloss challenge' thread, and I used it to document my progress.

I've lost 14 pounds in about 2 or so months, and I plan to continue. I think I'll start lurking FitGaf just for tips and ideas and motivation.

For my routine, I don't really plan on building much muscle. I already have enough, except for maybe strengthing my core a little bit. I'm a House dancer, and I dance 2-3 times a week for roughly 2-4 hours at a time. This has contributed a lot to my weight loss.

I have found that dancing is a great combination of muscle strength + cardio when you get into the more intricate movements of a particular style and you practice them for a long period of time.

I've got about another 14 pounds to go until I will be at my weight when I was around 21. I felt pretty good, although I'm definitely much more athletic now than I used to be. It's just about losing the fat. I definitely feel good now though, having lost 14 pounds already and the difference is noticeable in my face, arms and chest.

Posted over in the other FitGAF post already, but I'll reiterate here.

29. 6'2", just shy of 300 pounds. Bum left leg (metal rods and plates) and an ACL/MCL tear in my right knee a year and a half ago.

I've started a calorie journal and I'm making healthier choices, and started walking back on Monday (1.5 miles after work). I've got a cold at the moment, so I'm taking it easy for a couple days, but once I feel better I plan to get back on it.

Looking forward to not being a lardbeast.

i don't have pics, but from the beggining of 2013(february to be more exactly) to now i have lost 55lbs and 25% of total bodyfat, all of that with gym and diet.

lol you've certainly got the frame for it. and the menacing look. can't wait to see you in shape breh.

Subscribed. Recovering from lower back injury. Trying to get my skwaats back. And I hope to one day turn super saiyan and deadlift 600. Also might make effort to increasing my ohp.

Also Sean, I played a little DDR back in the day as well. Great cardio for sure.

I've never seriously worked out before - in fact, until about two years ago, I never really did ANY fitness. I just got by with my metabolism, and as it slowed down in my 20s, I realized I didn't want to enter my 30s a fatass and/or fat bellied.

This is me in 2010.

So about two years ago, I started just walking. It was agonizing, since I hadn't done any PT since high school.

This is me in 2012.

You can see my arms are pretty flabby/no muscle on them. I'm think I'm flexing in this shot. I lost some weight, and felt better about myself, and that was fine for a while.

Fast forward through my crazy thread about meeting a girl, and now I'm loving living with her. I wanted to step up my physical workout a notch, get really into it, and I had been checking out FitGAF for a while. After participating and getting tips and tricks (thanks guys!) I had been really stepping up my game. I'm really learning how to squat, and I'm enjoying my workouts so much they become fun in themselves.

This is me today:

26Noan6.jpg

Not super jacked or anything, but there's definition, you can definitely tell I've lost weight, (I've lost about 15 lbs since 2012) and I'm feeling overall healthier.

The sky's the limit.

Nice progress on the weight loss, muscle/strenf gainz, and good luck with future endeavours Gaffers.

chrs fitgaf, was a 38" waist and 15st

now I'm just shy of 13st and a 34"

Hey now! My fat ass is a 38 waist.

Something has to support my ghetto ass.

Appreciate all the kind words, guys

Great job Sean!!!

This is amazing, great change! You should be really proud :)

Do you mind if I ask how your diet changed over this time as well?

My diet primarily consists of: chicken, turkey, beef, tuna, salmon, olive oil, butter, brown rice, oatmeal, sweet potatoes, beans, eggs, whey, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese and dark green vegetables.

About 2800 calories a day. More on workout days, less on rest.

If I were to lose weight I'd carb cycle and take in an average of 2500

But going into the past, I had a terrible diet. Didn't track anything obviously and ate whatever I wanted. In college I cut out sweets, fried foods and heavy fats.

I've tried Keto and paleo. Neither were for me.

I'm a regular FitGAF reader/occasional poster. People sometimes confuse my alias with the much stronger OP Cooter, but pics quickly set the record straight. :P Anyway, my fitness journey.

In the first pic, I had been working out for about a year with a personal trainer at my gym, doing standard circuit routines. I was certainly doing better than when I first joined the gym, but I felt my progress had stalled in the last few months. I started reading FitGAF and learned about Starting Strength.

In the second picture, I had been done Starting Strength for about 4 months, and a couple months of 5/3/1. I was much stronger, and wanted to start focusing on body composition.

The third pic is the result of my routine since February, which is essentially a bodybuilder-style workout. I still do traditional lifts, but my rep range is about 8-15 with a few heavy sets. I've also been doing more accessory lifts, and some cardio-style bouts with kettle bells and whatnot. I've paid much closer attention to my food too.

I just had a DEXA scan which put me at 16.5% body fat. I think I'm about to switch into bulk/recomp mode, and FitGAF will be part of my journey. Thanks for starting this thread Cooter!

i don't have a before pic, but this is me after one round of P90X:

CZvtOqT.jpg

i've gotten a little older and a little fatter since then, but hopefully i'll get back to where i was in 3 months (i'm trying out P90x3 this time).

My biggest lifts, beginning with my worst.

Squat 455lbs

http://youtu.be/3joJPlwrM0s

Bench 405lbs.

http://youtu.be/_dAasVfU1iY

Deadlift 615lbs.

http://youtu.be/UC6iDiDRA4g

And overhead press 280lbs.

http://youtu.be/S8oyHY1pxdU

Bonus video. Deadlift 550lbs for 3.

http://youtu.be/5eJuRhzjrtc

Sweet Fancy Moses! The only place I have you beat is the squat and it's not by much (515lbs) I have a feeling 455 is not maximal for you. I tried to post some encouraging comments on your videos, but youtube wouldn't let me for some reason. In any case, amazing work, and keep it up!

I started using the rowing machine 5-6 times per week for 30 mins about a week and a half ago. Not enough progress for pics yet, but I can feel the muscle now. I'm using some 10lb dumb bells as well, but I haven't done much with them yet outside of biceps and triceps.

Last March and this March.

Lost over 4 stone in total since 2010. Still have a lot of work to get to where I want though. Been dieting and lifting since last year but its time to start bulking now and I can't fucking wait.

I only workout twice a week now due to working too much for the time being (god willing), and my macro diet isn't that great as of now, so this is what I've been looking like for a bit:

Forgive me for the water stains on the mirror. Too lazy to fresh'n up the bathroom.

EDIT-On the plus side, my Levi's slim straight jeans feel A LITTLE tight on my legs. Haven't worn them in over a year probably, and it was a job trying to sit down and get up in them.

Jesus at your Bench and DL numbers. Wow.

Do you compete?

Thanks, and not yet, but I intend to.

Yeah, for some reason squat is simply my worst lift to improve. Only recently it's gotten much better and moving in the right direction.
What a fucking beast holy fuckballs

Thanks bud.

Working out 5 days a week and not looking a thing like this. What the fuck is going on

Probably your programming and your diet.

Thank you fit gaf. You're like my family now.

Damn dude, never saw that before picture... awesome work man!

So here's me at my absolute fattest, probably six years ago. Maybe pushing close to 240 lbs (I'm 5'8").

Made a lot of changes, some physical, some mental (these are the harder changes), and worked a lot with the P90X GAF folks and ended up here (about a year and a half ago).

That's around 180-something lbs.

Currently aiming to get back to that point and exceed it, by Christmas, using what worked for me last time (P90X & X2). Running a Tough Mudder in September and am training hard everyday to make sure I don't die during that... so this thread (and the P90X thread) should help keep me motivated. Best of luck to everyone with their own goals!

It's because I’ve got the stride of a gazelle. A beautiful, beautiful gazelle person. My body is achieving a perfect symmetry right now. It’s that long, lean muscle I’ve worked so hard to achieve. I should have popped my shirt off. Goddammit, I really should have popped my shirt off. I wonder if any women are watching from the sidelines.

lmao

To answer the guy's question, it's likely because JU lifted for a long, long time before he could only go down to 2 days per week. also he's got them dope chest genetics lol. delts could use work tho :P

I do standing push presses and that's really it. My shoulders aren't super shredded, but they're developed. I just think it's the lighting in my bathroom. If I flexed my biceps, you can definately see my shoulders 'pop' a bit more.

As for my routine, it's been VERY hard trying to figure out how to incorporate everything on Mondays and Fridays. One week I'll do a split. For example, I'll do flat bench, then move onto cable rows, then incline bench, then some pullups, then another back exercise, and then some dumbbell flies. If I'm not too lazy or still have time, I'll throw in some biceps.

Or I'll do flat bench, deadlifts, pullups, and dips.

Fridays I do squats, standing PP, and triceps.

I am so proud of all of us! ^_^ Great job everyone!

God Dayumm, I am amazed - wow!

Cooper, I still envy your hair. Also you are our little steel fox. Keep up the good work!

Ashodin, I am so happy to see that you have been listening and keeping at it! :D

a secret-boss, Looking good! Loved to see the progress!

Sean, I haven't seen your starting point before - mad respect!

You have gained so much! Splendid!

And I know the feeling of being eager to see the changes and I can't wait to see how I will develop.

Not a lot of pictures of me when I was over 180, with a fat face and hardly any chin. I made it down to 155 with calorie tracking and cardio. Second picture is from today at the gym, back up to around 165 but starting strength training.
