If you join the BGBW Smash Gym for Real Men you can play with Miis in competitive play as much as you like.

Hearing all the reused voice and music assets from the e3 demo is depressing me. Hope they record new stuff before launch. Pikachu in particular has been making the exact same noises going on three games now.

Pikachu has undergone vocal changes throughout the three games, but otherwise I agree. The reused victory themes are lame.

Competitively vs. Casual argument are not welcome here, so I request you to take it out of this thread and make thread based n Melee vs Brawl or Competitively vs Casual because I'm pretty sure that people would love to get involved with that. Also the discussion gotten very old.

90% that thread would be closed because, "there is already a Smash Bros. discussion thread". Pretty sure the reason they let us have these threads is to keep these arguments from spilling out into their own threads every other week.

Pretty sure all pikachus specials have used the same voice clips since melee. I could be wrong though.

Speaking of audio, I really hope the crowd chants get amped up a bit. The crowd has been super tame in all the games except 64. When they chanted for your character in that game, you FELT IT. It felt like a huge crowd of people screaming their heads off. From melee on it was like 5 or 6 people chanting unenthusiastically.

Hello,

I am spreading the word about the K. Rool for Smash DLC movement I have started over to NeoGAF for his fans here to join (which, from my experience, there aren't many of here, thanks to SHOULD HAVE BEEN METROID-gate at E3 2013, but I digress). The headquarters of the movement can be found here (http://kremlingkampaign.wordpress.com); the site features what I hope are compelling reasons K. Rool should become a DLC character, as well as ways to reach out to Nintendo and let your desire for this to happen to be known. Feel free to start trying these out early, although I am planning to organize more calculated pushes over the next few weeks and months as well. In addition, there is a 'Supporter Comments' tab where I am compiling fans' praise or personal stories about the character. If you'd like to be featured there, leave a comment on the site (or in this thread, even).

I understand that this is a preemptive push, since the final roster is currently unknown, but the way I see it, there's no downside to getting the ball rolling early. If K. Rool's in the game, the two minutes or so it took to Tweet at or email Nintendo will pale in comparison to the excitement of his reveal. If K. Rool's not in the game, the movement will have already hopefully have some traction, whereas, if it waited until a time when everyone and their mother is crying about their favorites' exclusion, it would get drowned out. I think, by starting early, the chances of this actually working increase a tiny bit, and even if nothing happens, we still raise attention that we want the character back, right before the potential planning for a third Retro DKC begins (it began for Tropical Freeze roughly a year after Returns' release).

Any and all support given is greatly appreciated.

Long live the King!

as a k rool fan I obviously support this

I'd be pretty mad if K. Rool was DLC over Dixie tbh. Hopefully he's actually a Smash Run boss, that's a good fit for him.

I feel the same way. Dixie really feels like the character that fits. I understand the villain/uniqueness of K Rool but something about Dixie, for me, feels right while K Rool feels like a born boss character.

Edit: I think it's because DK, Diddy, and Dixie feel like a team and a complete set. Getting K Rool instead of Dixie feels like getting Ganon over Zelda.

God Speed. Go forth and Konquer.

I think moveset wise, K. Rool would be a much more exciting addition than Dixie if you take into account all the different aliases and abilities he had through Rare's DK games.

I always envisioned K. Rool's final smash being a Cannonball rain much like PK Starstorm...but ya know, actually hits and hurts things.

See I think Dixie deserves a position in SSB more yet I find myself leaning towards the Kaptain for this reason, I know I'd enjoy his heavyweight stylings so much more unless they got really creative with Dixie's hair and monkeying around
The blunderbuss focused moveset in my mind is pretty spiffy to me and it saddens me that that's where it'll likely stay.

This actually leads to another pressing point, aside from more villains in smash we could really use more heavyweights, you could say it's uneven enough in this respect that Ike was by a chance of good fortune for myself made into a weighty hard hitting beast in Brawl despite his Path of Radiance origins being anything but. If we've lost Snake as well then that's another loss for team heavyweights, none of the newcomers are tackling this spot and the rumoured ones to come don't appear to either.

If he had a costume change mechanic to switch between his king / pirate captain / mad scientist / boxer aliases he could turn out to be the most unique heavyweight in Smash. Kaptain K. Rool could give him projectiles with the blunderbuss, and Baron K. Roolenstein could give him better recovery with the helicopter pack.

Honestly, I don't think either K. Rool or Dixie should be in the game. I'd rather have another WarioWare rep for the 5th Mario Spinoff character instead.

I wouldn't label DK, Diddy, Yoshi, and Wario as "Mario spinoff characters" since they are represented by their own IP in Smash. (hell, if anything Mario is a DK spinoff character since they both originated in the original Donkey Kong game. ;P)

Anyway DK certainly deserves a 3rd character when series like Star Fox, Fire Emblem, and Kirby all get 3 characters. After all, Donkey Kong is Nintendo's 5th most successful IP. (after Mario, Pokemon, Wii ____, and Zelda)

This was always the popular idea though with the removal of transformations I guess this is truly out the window.
Then again characters like Mii and Plautena have shown a wide set of specials so you could still have something along these lines, more like stance changes than transformations.

King: Standard heavyweight style moves
Kaptain: Very projectile heavy
Baron: trap placement and more aerial manoeuvrability

It'll never happen but its nice to dream.

I think K. Rool would be an awful boss because he's not a gargantuan beast or a towering mech, he's a Bowser-sized main villain whose attacks lend themselves far better to a playable moveset. People here who actually think he should be reduced to the level of Bonkers, the Reaper, and Bulborb by running around as a Smash Run boss are selling the King way short.

Glad to see at least some people on here are receptive to this idea.

I never really liked K.Rool as a villain in the DKC SNES games (he was barely there and had no consistency), but got actively annoyed with his existence with all the Returns/Tropical Freeze whining.

None of those characters are Smash Run bosses.
And we know a Kremling IS one, so either it's K. Lumsy, or it's a character around K. Rool's size (or smaller).

Let's be real. If what was said about Smash Run bosses is true, why would Sakurai pick a Kremling different than the main bad himself?

It is pretty shocking that fans of the series wanted back a villain with considerably more charm than the replacement in Returns.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. Even Kraid is a pretty major Metroid boss, and Mother Brain and Ridley are already an AT and a stage boss, respectively.

The tikis suck pretty hard, but I was liking the Snowmads way more than the Kremlings right up until the Fredrik battle. I wish they had done something with him other than ripping off K. Rool.

Moving away from the K Rool conversation at the moment.

There were two things in Brawl that I really hated compared to Melee: Event Matches and Trophies.

Melee's Event Matches had you fighting unusual battles under unusual circumstances and sometimes on unusual stages. Event Matches were unique and in many cases did not have conditions that could be replicated outside the specific event match. I really loved that, they were fun and exciting and I looked forward to the best crazy battle.

Brawl's Event Matches were not like that. They were almost all just... Regular battles. Brawl is jam-packed with cut corners but this one upsets me to this day. I really want Smash 4 to bring back crazy interesting Event Matches that feel like fun fan mods.

The other thing I've always disliked were that with all the trophies that Brawl had they were almost all model rips from the most recent games in a series. There were no interesting retro trophies or cool renders, or very few anyway (Elite Beat Agents stands out). Melee's trophies were nostalgic for older gamers and informative to newer ones. I got to see things I had never seen before, characters from games I had never heard of, and 3D models for characters that had never been seen beyond their sprites.

This is really different in Brawl, where everything is from Barrel Blast and Twilight Princess and the entire Mother series only has four trophies that aren't linked to fighters.

There is always lots of talk about changes from Brawl's multiplayer that people want changed, and that's really important. But Brawl also had A LOT of lackluster content, even compared to it's predecessors. You can blame time constraints all you want, but for as long as they worked on that game with two delays it is pretty absurd the way so many things were implemented. ESPECIALLY since the SSE was already a failed alpha of Kirby Wii. It's like Brawl had no original content at all, just tons and tons of material compiled from other games.

Those two things though would go a really long way for me.

Tikis were terrible as was the final boss being a clone of boring "giant head, two hands" style bosses that Nintendo loves to churn out.

I like the Snomads though, pretty big improvement there.

In Donkey Kong 64, he's ten times the size of Smash Bros.' largest character. He'd work absolutely fine as a boss -- don't be disingenuous. He towers over DK in Donkey Kong Country, too.

Disingenuous? You mean like ignoring his size at every other point in DK64 EXCEPT the final boss?

K. Rool could work as a boss. So could any other playable antagonist. Point is, it would be a disservice to the character, who could offer much more in a playable role.

Yeah, the Returns/Tropical Freeze whining was awful.

"SHOULDA BEEN METROID! HOW DARE RETRO NOT MAKE PRIME 4!! WHY F**KING DONKEY KONG?? WHY CRANKY KONG AT VGX INSTEAD OF METROID?? WAAAAAH!!"

None of those characters are Smash Run bosses.

No, they are.

See that little 'Defeat Bulborb!' warning on the bottom screen? That's an event that gets triggered for larger-than-usual boss enemies in Smash Run. An arrow appears on the map, telling players how far they are away from the boss as a number. Once that number reaches zero, they're right next to the boss, and it instead turns into a 'Target!' symbol, seen below.

All known boss enemies have been generic large enemies. K. Rool is more than that, thus he's likely not a Smash Run boss.
