Official Destiny Alpha Withdrawal Thread

I love and HATE the sound of those exotics.

I love them because the special abilities sound cool and will really make these weapons stand out.

I hate it because I know they will cause PVP balance issues that I probably won't care about myself but I know many others understandably will.

I'm actually extremely suprised at Gaf's reaction to these.

What's the current US time? I'm hoping Bungie Day news is announced before I go to bed tonight (currently 07/07 12:50pm NZT.)

It's 5:54PM Bungie time. I'm central time here and it's 7:54 my time. I wouldn't expect to see anything till around 9AM at the earliest Bungie time.

I'm sure there will be pvp dedicated to end game players, it's Bungie, they are not going to let people with crazy exotics go stomp people that only have greens and blues equipped

So the IGN stuff starts at 2am my time (Sydney) and I assume more info re: collector's edition and such will trickle out later in the day. I know NZ is a couple hours ahead so you'd be looking at midnight.

That sniper rifle sounds beast but so overpowered at the same time. Depending on the level of camo offered, i could see this (in the right hands of skilled players) being overpowered to the point that it breaks crucible balance entirely.
Well there are limitations of course - the cloaking is only while ADS, Snipers hold low ammo, and the killcam shows who killed you and where. If the camo is hazy like the Fallen during the alpha strike, you'll be able to spot people still.

Exotic weapons sound like they answer the problem of limited powers. I will be interesting to see exotic weapons play role of getting you more passive powers.

Just linked my PSN ID to my Bungie.net account and subscribed to PS+... 11 days to go!

They will be the standard weapons soon enough.

I have to do a whole presentation of a day in the life at my job in front of my boss, my boss's boss, my boss's boss's boss on July 16th...

I am going to need to take a day off for this beta start, I will have earned it.

Good players never camp. They are always on the move for that exact reason. But the best players will almost have a "spot rotation" for sniping, going from spot to spot. Can still see this being unbalanced as hell for the first few people who pick them up (especially if it is locked behind raids).

with all the comparisons with Borderlands I guess I figured there was an element of randomness with gun creation in game meaning variations of stats and looks within a certain mold, but instead, what it sounds like now is that each weapon has been hand crafted and placed in game.

my worry would be one weapon to dominate them all for a run and gunner play-style, or for snipers, or for whatever, and you begin to see the everyone with the same gun over and over again match after match.

I have the same worry with armor sets. one top set that eventually, given enough time, will be worn by everyone within a specific class.

are my fears unfounded? will we see a lot of variety of end game gear 3-4 months after release?

Time will tell then I guess, especially if there's a piece of gear that can counteract the cloak portion of it (helm that shows outlines of all players on map?)

For sure. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a counter either now that i think about it but still... I think those who get this kind of gear first are in for a massive advantage until the general community catches up to them.

No because the best gear will be locked behind raids i imagine and i can't see the majority of people finishing one within the first 3-6 months, yet alone a hard mode raid. I wouldn't expect anyone but the best of the best to be min-maxed on stats within the first 3-6 months of release. That might seem a long time (i am leaning more towards 3 months myself) but if the raids are as hard as they sound to be, it will take a while to get them on farm in order to start gearing.

Hopefully armors having different charateristics such as decreased cooldown for grenades but lower defense, etc will create diversity due to people having different playstyles. I would think weapon upgrade trees could accomplish this as well.

so you log in 7 months from release and everyone has the same armor and weapons because the people have figured out the specific pieces that give the greatest advantage. i was hoping that with a random weapon creation system in game no two items would be the same, only similar. obviously bungie been making weapons and armor for years and they have repeatedly said the content is deep, but seems like every game like this there are a few pieces that stand out and are desired by all.

Bungie Day is ALMOST here! Beta is still way too far away though. Man, I haven't been this excited about a game in a LONG time.

I'll solo a raid day 1 with green guns

I was mlg tier at halo you know

Well as was said above, each armour and weapon piece in the top tier will have a random ability/ammo type attached to it giving those pieces a uniqueness in terms of the bonus it gives. While there would be obviously some more desirable bonuses that people would want, there would be enough variety due to playstyles that there would be different armours. I could also see some of the best players taking slightly less "powerful" (less attack stat) gear for better bonuses on slightly lower gear pieces.

And no - nowhere near the majority will have have the same armour in 7 months. IMO the top 1-2% will have the best gear within 3-4 months, top 3-5% within 6 and top 10% within 8. I doubt no more then 25-30% of players by the first expansion would have their gear in top tier state (and that is assuming there wouldn't be new gear released prior to the first expansion)

ok i gotcha. i like this randomness aspect. you could do the same raid or strike over and over hoping for the drop to get the desirable weapon/armor you looking for. good stuff.
also, im just picking random timelines, but the point is if the game sells itself as a loot driven game, but filters players to the same specific OP gear through end game raids, it seems like a pointless journey. i hope to see as much variety the day before Destiny 2 drops as we will see week 1 Sept 9th.

They're not unfounded, but you can lay them to rest because Bungie has stated they will have a substantial sustain team that will monitor and tweak these exact sorts of things.

Looking forward to some Beta news and whatever else comes tomorrow.

Also, is it 100% confirmed that the XBO beta is coming on the 21st?

Ah ok. Hopefully it isn't too far removed from the original start date. Would like to give my spare code to a friend instead of using it on both the PS4 and XBO versions.
All we know so far is the beta starts on July 17th and that PS players get it 4 days extra beta time, leading people to assume that Xbox players won't get the beta til the 21st.
What we don't know is if that bonus 4 days is at the start or the end of the beta period.

Ugh, I thought they specifically had 'normalized' gear in PVP to avoid these sort of have vs have-nots issues. Considering Halo was one of the prime example of every player being on an even playing field from day 1, it's disappointing to see this.

People being able to preload the Beta client because beta codes will be sent out, as well as the announcement of the Destiny CE.

I wouldn't expect a pre-load yet but a date for codes sent out sometime before friday. Also maybe an announcement about what those trading cards do (doubtful but still). Maybe also a VidDOC or trailer as well as a cherry on top.

I doubt we'll see what those cards are until launch day, although I'd like to be presently surprised on this. And a new ViDoc would definitely be appreciated, since the people in this forum seem to be like sponges when it comes to any new information :D

No because the best gear will be locked behind raids

I never understood this logic I see in many games.
They lock the best, most unique gear behind the hardest more challenging content.(not saying that Destiny does this, but talking about other games)

That doesnt make sense to me.

If you best the hardest difficulty.....and you haven't even gotten the best gear yet......what's the point of getting the best gear???...like, now what are you gonna do with that unique gear you just unlocked now that you just bested all the content the game has to offer???

I get better gear so I can take on the more challenging content that I couldnt beat before.
Once I've completed what the game has to offer as far as challenging content, thats it. Game over, time to pack it up and bounce.

I aint sticking around to get better gear. Get better gear for what??? To play the content I already beaten???

It's the experience I'm after, not the loot, the rewards is secondary to me.

But I understand, in Destiny, all the gear you've obtained can be used in PVP, so I guess that's the incentive there, to give you an edge on the other players with that legendary gear you got from raiding. So I see that has a huge difference between other games with a gear hunt, like borderlands.

Because new content will (should) be coming out for the game constantly. The gear you get from raids helps you in new content, as well as clearing the raid in hard mode or clearing it more efficiently so you can run it more often because you are very unlikely to get lucky and receive one of every piece you need.

Also it looks like you can start farming that gear to give to new characters on your account if the bank system works as i think it does.

Good morning Y'all!
Dobré ráno in my language!

So yeah, Bungie Day, right? Should I get hyped, this early in the work morning?

Get as hyped as you want, but you'll still be waiting a while until the info releases :)

That answered my question - no hype, then. Will wait for something to get hyped for.
Are there any speculations what might pop out of this or should I just scroll back and reread those speculations
