Glad to see Jeff and Dan both have a reasonable opinion of anime.

Nowhere near, but it has its moments (pirates, so a lotta bikini babes and that kinda hot weather wear). Most of the women look like hourglasses though... deformed hourglasses

Yeah, maybe this wasn't the best news to test this. I mean it basically boils down to "Cliffy B makes a F2P arena shooter for PC, codenames BlueStrike" and there isn't really anything else that interesting. This might work for a big feature but I can't really imagining a simple news articel profiting in any way from this.
 
I only recently got into Anime...but it always seemed like One Piece had similar fans to shows like Naruto and Bleach, which made me never ever ever want to watch one piece (in general i think i would rather watch a shoujo than a shonen, but i have gotten into JoJo).

and yall are crazy, not every story has to be a "story". Patrick's piece answers the big questions i had.

This too. I think trying an approach like that for more complex subjects makes some sense, but game announcements probably don't need to undergo a massive overhaul.

And again, I stick to my point about the site's bent giving Patrick a lot of freedom in how he can write his stories regardless. If he thinks the standard article style is inefficient, unsatisfactory or engaging, well, that's why he's started doing video and audio news and features, no?

Watching this One Piece QL right now. Is it possible for an Anime to not have some giant breasted chick in some skimpy bikini in it or is that just a requirement? You know for the fans.

This game actually is what I always thought Dark Cloud 3 would look like. You know, if they actually made DC3 for PS3 like they fucking should have.
 
Watching this One Peice QL and Dan is giving me a real Rick “The Ricker” Petersen vibe. Give it a bit more time for them both to get more comfortable and I think we might have a duo to match, or dare I say beat, Vinny/Jeff.
 
Watching the OP QL and hearing Jeff mention that he thinks Death Note has mechs made me really want Death Note with mechs.

Oda's designs are kind of terrible. lol

That said, my understanding is that everyone on One Piece is pretty asexual, like most shounen characters, so it's not really for anyone's benefit!
 
I know I'm not going to be able to do anything to convince anyone otherwise, but anime has a really thin layer of very popular shows that follow similar conventions and are all kind of goofy. People who don't try to get into it think of this stuff. Once you get through that layer (which isn't very hard), you find genuinely good stuff. And this is coming from someone who doesn't even watch much anime. One Piece is definitely in that layer though and it's actually pretty good (although I don't really care for any of the other ones).

Anime is just animated shows/movies created in Japan. There's not much else to it. Generalizing it is silly, just like with anything else.

Don't think the readers are asexual though. Well, not most of them anyway.
 
After this positive reception to One Piece, maybe Platinum's Korra game will turn them around on Avatar! ...then again, Korra is nowhere near as goofy as this One Piece stuff...

I just read though that bit on Wikipedia before I read this, Based on that one paragraph, and having no knowledge of the series, it is amazing how big of a fuck up that seems to be. Based on the content, I could see them having to make a few edits, but they seemed to go edit crazy in all material.

The characters themselves being asexual means nothing to the people getting off on the designs. ;) Really, though, its not just an Anime thing. Its a gaming thing both east and west. Big boobs sell. I just thought it was funny.
 
They have a good reason why they can't swim in the One Piece games. When Luffy get that rubber power he became like allergic to water.
 
It's not an allergy, once you get a power you can't swim, which sucks because OP is basically just islands islands islands
 
The game reminded me of how much I dislike the character designs after the timeskip. Nico Robin seems to have had all her defining characteristics removed.
